Re: Review: Marvel Cosmic Invasion (Switch) - Up There With Best-Ever Arcade Marvel Games

Dan420

@Hypn0Toad I'm in the same boat. I was actually shocked there was no paid or free upgrade pack to just upgrade the Switch version. I want my son to have it on his Switch, but I want the better framerate, smoother Switch 2 version for myself. I will likely just get the Switch 2 version also and possibly get my son the Switch version on steep discount.

I just can't understand why, other than trying to force a double purchase, that this publisher would do this. So many games from Brotato to Dave the Diver have been given free Switch 2 upgrade packs recently or they could've gone the Zelda, Hello Kitty Island Adventure route and charged $5 or $10 to upgrade the Switch version to the Switch 2 version; but offering no other option than the full purchase of both is pretty ridiculous in today's gaming market.

Re: Review: Marvel Cosmic Invasion (Switch) - Up There With Best-Ever Arcade Marvel Games

Dan420

@Hypn0Toad Gameshare is the only known difference, but there is anecdotal evidence from reviewers that the Switch 2 version runs smoother.

Copied from an AI response, "If you purchase the original Switch version, you can play it on the Switch 2 via backward compatibility, but it will run as the Switch version, not the enhanced Switch 2 version. To experience the dedicated Switch 2 version with any potential enhancements, you must purchase the specific MARVEL Cosmic Invasion - Nintendo Switch 2 edition."

So there is NO upgrade pack to upgrade from the Switch version to the Switch 2 version and playing the Switch version on the Switch 2 seems like it may perform less optimally than playing the actual Switch 2 version on the Switch 2. So it seems this publisher is kinda forcing a double purchase if you want the best of both worlds for this game. If you want it on Switch 1 and you want the superior version on Switch 2 you will literally have to buy both versions. Seems like a lame choice in this day and age when games like Dave the Diver, etc. are getting FREE upgrades to the Switch version to enhance them for the Switch 2.

Re: Review: Dbrand Switch 2 Killswitch Case - Teething Troubles Aside, This Case Is Killer

Dan420

After the detaching joycon debacle and less than sublime dock extension experiences, I expressed my experience saying I had no issues and was enjoying the case only to be told I was a defender and part of the problem.

Anyway I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one enjoying the Killswitch, it's a super nice case. I got two of them, minus the screen protectors (I paid $2.25 for my tempered glass screen protectors, $8.99 for a 4 pack on Amazon) and the Killswitches look great on mine and my son's Switch 2's and make the console much more comfortable to hold.

Re: PSA: DBrand's Switch 2 'Killswitch' Dock Adapter's 'Seamless Docking' Apparently Isn't Quite Seamless

Dan420

This is my first dbrand product. I got two, one for my Switch 2 and one for the Switch 2 my wife and son share. The first thing I did after installing my Killswitch after reading about these issues was to hold my Switch 2 by one joycon and dangle it around, with my other hand underneath, ready to catch it when it detached; it never detached. I then tried the opposite side, and it never detached either. So I decided to dock the system and see what all that fuss was about and yes it isn't as seamless as the Nintendo dock, but it is far from difficult to dock it in the dock extension. So I'm just enjoying my dbrand Killswitch case. If I had to nitpick anything negative about it I'd say the glow in the dark skins that I got for my son's Switch 2 don't glow very brightly, not nearly as bright as in the pictures on their website, although the carbon fiber skins I picked for my Switch 2 look nice. Oh, and it does add considerable weight to the otherwise very lightweight system, which I guess is to be expected.

Re: Video: We Put The Switch 2's Battery Through Its Paces With A Full Timelapse

Dan420

@contractcooker That's a good point about the auto brightness. I was indoors in a room with consistent lighting, so hopefully, it didn't change things too much. I did it with the auto brightness on just because the screen is actually too bright for my liking at full brightness without the auto brightness on, but I didn't think ahead that it would alter the battery usage slightly due to altering the brightness based on the light in my room.

I think the battery length times I got are still an OK indicator of what people can expect to get with a Switch 1 game vs. a Switch 2 power-hungry game with typical settings. Tweaking the settings definitely can add or take away a little chunk of time, though.

Re: Video: We Put The Switch 2's Battery Through Its Paces With A Full Timelapse

Dan420

Wow, a lot of misinformation and conjecture in the comments.

In short the Switch 2 most certainly lasts far longer when playing Switch 1 games than when playing Switch 2 games. I've done limited testing, mostly to see why one of my family's Switch 2 systems was losing a considerable amount in sleep mode, and the other Switch 2 was not. With a Switch 1 game played on a Switch 2, I netted 5 hours and 18 minutes playtime, and with a Switch 2 game, I netted 2 hours 46 minutes from 100 percent to powering off. More detailed info is below.

The Switch 1 game was Vampire Survivors at full brightness (auto brightness checked on), medium volume, airplane mode on but wifi enabled on. The Switch 2 game was Cyberpunk 2077 exact same settings.

Clearly, Switch 2 games are pushing the system harder and using more battery for it. I haven't done battery test playing VS on either of my family's OLED's because frankly it's never been an issue, and with games like VS I don't expect it to be an issue on the Switch 2 either as it seems to be within an hour or two of the OLED. For graphically intense Switch 2 games a three hour session with no outlet and no portable battery might be really tough or impossible. So it's pretty much on par with the competition.

Re: Nintendo Appears To Have Updated Mario Kart World's Switch 2 File Size

Dan420

@PlatinumSeraph Not to be Mr. Buzz Killington but after the space the operating system takes up and the way gigabytes are calculated the actual available free space on a new Switch 2 is reported to be 221 gigabytes. So the math would be more like 221 divided by 22 equals approximately 10. So ten games the size of Mario Kart World will be able to be stored on a Switch 2 without any external memory.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Life eShop Selects (March 2025)

Dan420

@TenEighty Yep, I remember Player's Choice and Nintendo Selects. I avoided them because I didn't like the ugly yellow banner across the top of the game case. Not really sure how that proves Nintendo didn't nickel and dime everyone. Those Player's Choice games were $19.99 in the early 2000's, adjusted for inflation that's nearly $40 which is the exact same price Nintendo puts their AAA games on sale for now at times like March 10th Mario Day, etc. I see no difference.

Re: Best Cheap Nintendo Switch Games

Dan420

Between the 50 games listed and all the comments I think almost everything is covered. I really don't have much to say except, Dave the Diver. Where in the world is Dave the Diver? 88 meta score, over 25 hours of fun, and it's been discounted up to 30% off bringing it from $20 to $13.99.

Re: Rumour: Placeholder Retail Listing Suggests Switch 2 Price Might Be Cheaper Than Expected

Dan420

@HalBailman I agree about inflation in regard to electronics. I still remember paying over $100 for a portable CD player over 25 years ago, and I made a paltry $6.25 an hour at the time, so $100 was a small fortune, lol. Now I own an 85" Smart TV I got for under $1000, and I earn considerably more than $6.25 an hour. Technological advances have certainly made it possible for Nintendo to release the Switch 2 for under $400 despite the fact that $400 is not what it used to be. However, that doesn't change the fact that companies like Nintendo will gauge inflation when deciding where to price their newest console. Nintendo has always been the most affordable when it comes to consoles, so you may well be right about the price, but they are definitely considering inflation in their pricing and they did mention they will not be lowering the price on any console SKU's in the near future. It was in a Q and A with the Nintendo president, where they also mentioned that they hadn't finalized the Switch 2 price and were weighing inflation into the price. It's covered in this article if you want to check it out: https://www.techradar.com/gaming/nintendo/dont-worry-about-the-nintendo-switch-2-price-nintendo-says-it-will-follow-the-affordable-prices-customers-expect

Re: Rumour: Placeholder Retail Listing Suggests Switch 2 Price Might Be Cheaper Than Expected

Dan420

@AstroTheGamosian Well, I wish you the best in your future endeavors. I was making $2000 a month as a commercial painter 15 years ago, and that was considered fantastic money at the time. It's true depending on the area and circumstances it certainly isn't enough anymore. The tariffs could possibly spur inflation depending on what products and countries are targeted. Let's hope the current powers that be make the correct choices.

@HalBailman $350 for the Switch 2 would be a steal. I see the logic, with the rumors speculating LCD instead of OLED. I don't know though, inflation has been so high that if you Google what $350 in 2021 (the release year of the Switch OLED) would be today, it is approximately $424. So even just price adjusting the Switch 2 for inflation would push the price above $350. Plus, you have Nintendo saying they will not lower the price of the original Switch. So they'd be kind of crazy to sell them side by side at the same price, even if one is OLED and the other turns out to just be LCD.

Re: Rumour: Placeholder Retail Listing Suggests Switch 2 Price Might Be Cheaper Than Expected

Dan420

@AstroTheGamosian The 10% tariff on goods from China is the equivalent of slightly more than the average states sales tax, if this is going to change your gaming habits I feel bad for your financial situation. I'm more concerned about how the last 4 years of massive inflation will play into Nintendo's pricing of the Switch 2 as Nintendo's president has actually mentioned inflation as something they needed to consider when pricing the Switch 2. And I'm not trying to drag politics into this, that was already done, but it wasn't the current president that caused the inflation issues.

Re: Deals: Now's The Time To Upgrade Your Switch's Micro SD Card

Dan420

@dugan If you are moving from one micro SD to another micro SD that will be used in the SAME console then the easiest way is to move everything from the old memory card onto a PC then from the PC onto the new memory card. If you are moving onto a new console then you can transfer all pics/ videos, but will have to actually re-download all the games to be recognized by the new console.

@SillyG You can in fact just copy and paste, as long as the move is on the same console. The data is encrypted on a console by console basis not a card by card basis.

Re: Review: NeoSprint (Switch) - Atari's Pricey But Revved-Up Retro Romp

Dan420

I understand pricing games with future discounts in mind, but $24.99 is pretty steep. I'm a huge fan of this type of game since RC Pro Am and Super Sprint, but this is going to need to be on a 50% discount for me to even consider it. Even with the the cool track builder and ability to race the Ghosts of best times of other players which both sound fantastic.

Re: Anniversary: Switch Turns Seven Today, With Over 11,000 Games On The eShop

Dan420

@nhSnork Well it seems my estimate was off considerably lol. I decided to update my count and the total was 1,403 games, so you likely have me beat. I do keep all of them on the library screen, but unfortunately haven't reached 2,000 to know if that cap still exists. I did spend about two full days categorizing them into folders and can say that there is a 200 game limit per folder, which is unfortunate because I need two folders each for my beat em up and shmup games. Depending on where you live the 1.5 TB is available by SanDisk from Amazon for $150, was on sale in the US for $120. A few companies are releasing 2 TB cards as well, but as long as you are managing your massive collection there's probably no reason to upgrade until we know what memory the next Switch uses.

Re: Anniversary: Switch Turns Seven Today, With Over 11,000 Games On The eShop

Dan420

The second I read the title I knew the comments section was going to be, "well yeah but so much shovelware". Thanks for not disappointing nintendolife commenters.

I'd rather have an eshop with 11,000 games and 80% shovelware than an eshop with only 100 all AAA games. Sure it makes it harder to find the gems in the rough but they're there for the picking if you do your research.

Re: New Star GP's Retro Racing Speeds Onto Switch This March

Dan420

@NinjaNicky You may know this already but I thought I'd mention it. For about $12 you can get an adapter that allows you to use the gamecubes, analog trigger, controllers with the Switch. Some games, such as Trials Rising even support the analog input, although I obviously don't know if this game would or not.

Re: Sonic Superstars' Sales Were 'Slightly Weaker' Than Sega Had Anticipated

Dan420

I picked it up before Thanksgiving at Target for $33.24, alongside Sonic Origins Plus for $18.99, and I am thoroughly enjoying both. It seems obvious that SMW took the spotlight and clearly all the sales, but Sonic Superstars is the most I have enjoyed a Sonic game in a very long time. Poor release choice and probably too high of a price point definitely killed the sales on this one, reviewers seem to agree that it is a pretty quality Sonic game.

Re: Feature: Nintendo eShop Selects - July 2023

Dan420

Batsugun Saturn Tribute Boosted was originally released in May, but was re-released in July to fix lag issues, if that counts as a July release it gets my vote. X-Force Under Attack is also not bad if you like upgrading and some level grinding in a shmup. I also thought Luna & Monsters Tower Defense is a pretty cool TD game for under $4 if it's still on sale. Arcade Archives released a couple good shmups in July as well. Not a bad month if you enjoy those types of games.
