You rarely get the full game for $60 anymore. There is almost always cut content that they want to sell back to you. This is what acceptance of on disc DLC has brought us.
@-wc- Well my NES/SNES/N64 cartridges seem to be going strong. 3DS games will certainly outlast the eShop. For that matter so are my PS1 discs and I have no doubt that the Wii U discs will outlast the eShop as well. It’s really not hard to take care of your games.
It’s so funny to me that people take a digital store closure as an excuse to spend more money on that store. It should be obvious that those digital games are worthless.
I appreciate all the older games coming to the Switch like Chrono Cross. In some cases the games just don’t look good on an HDTV so the Switch is preferable to the other consoles.
@LittleGhost Chrono Trigger is a game that is pretty perfect the way it is. Only a full 3D remake would make sense, otherwise just release the rom. People would pay $20 for it I think.
@Jireland92 Depends on what DS games you played. RPG’s would be right at home on the Switch and the DS and 3DS are loaded with them. Plus I remember the Mario games just used the touchscreen to activate power ups. It could be done and Nintendo could do it. Who knows, they may do it one day. I am expecting GBA games on the Switch too even though those looked terrible on the tv and really only looked good on the Gamepad.
@Jireland92 The Switch Lite is proof that Nintendo isn’t sticking to the ‘switching’ gimmick. I agree that touch screen heavy games may not work as well but games that barely use the touchscreen as in using it as a map or using it to activate a power up would work just fine.
@Jireland92 You obviously don’t remember but DS games required the Gamepad too. You could not play them with a pro controller. So really, no difference here. Furthermore, the Switch Pro Controller has motion controls so it certainly could be used for touch controls. It can be done and it has been done on the Wii U.
@victordamazio Nintendo is the one who designs their systems without backward compatibility in mind. Remember that. Also, you don't need the original Xbox discs to play original Xbox games on the Series X and Series S.
@Jireland92 Then let's compare it to the Xbox store where you can still buy original Xbox games as well as 360 and Xbox One games. All are backward compatible.
Nintendo chose this course; they didn't have to just because the 3DS and Wii U are discontinued.
@steventonysmith Agreed, Nintendo fans are never satisfied. Always looking for the next thing instead of enjoying what is currently available. Also, speculation leads to disappointment.
One of the things that I learned from Reggie's book is that executives switch companies as much as or more than regular employees do, at least in the US.
When I look at my GBA games on my shelf, I see either Pokémon, Square Enix games or SNES ports. The first two won’t show up on NSO based on past experience and the third is nothing to write home about. Sure you can play SNES games with fewer buttons but why would you want to?
@Retro2Modern I remember when Toyota had to issue a recall because of defective brakes or something. People really should have just fixed the brakes themselves and Toyota should have just kept selling the defective brakes. Right?
@Retro2Modern There is a video on YouTube that can help with this stuff to fix it instead of just trying to sue somebody over a stupid yet fixable flaw with a controller.
Yep! It's ok to sell defective controllers as long as there is a YouTube video about how you can fix it yourself.
@Tempestryke I'm not defending Nintendo, I'm openly showing derision for these idiot parents.
You are doing both.
The parents can't sue because of a BS clause in the EULA. It's a nice little racket they have there. The people who buy the console can't sue and the people who aren't bound by the EULA can't sue because they didn't buy it.
Please don't defend this nonsense by saying 'but other companies do it too'. How much do you suppose Nintendo has made selling knowingly defective controllers?
@jorel262 I fail to see what a lawsuit will solve outside of possibly giving money to people for complaining. If Nintendo is fixing the drift for free what's the issue?
Did you know that it was lawsuits that strongly influenced Nintendo to fix the joy cons for free? They were happy to keep charging people to fix their flawed controllers.

6 years to make a sequel in the same engine? Oh and the WW/TP rumors were wrong, what a surprise. I'll just play TP on the Wii, my preferred version.

@Jireland92 they couldn’t have made DS and 3DS games backwards compatible on Switch because the Switch doesn’t have a dual screen set-up.
They did it on the Wii U, you can play with both screens on the Gamepad.

Call it the Nintendo 8 and keep it simple from here on out.
NES - 1
SNES - 2
N64 - 3
Gamecube - 4
Wii - 5
Wii U - 6
Switch - 7
....and the next one is Nintendo 8. There is no confusion about Playstation consoles.
