With Hyrule Warriors we saw a narrative of realities and dimensions intertwining to justify character mash-ups that allowed for fun hack and slash action, and a similar trick is being pulled with Fire Emblem Warriors; the core plot is that heroes from multiple worlds are found and summoned to fight the good fight.
A fresh trailer for the game focuses on the characters from Fire Emblem: Awakening, a title that was important in giving the IP a major breakthrough in the West. Check it out below.
As Yosuke Hayashi of Koei Tecmo told us recently, the developers of the game have been keen to replicate the style of the animated cutscenes from the 3DS titles.
Rather than focusing on what the hardware specs were, it was more that a lot of the recent Fire Emblem games have attractive cutscenes in there, so we wanted to know what it would be like to have those characters that are shown in those movies as playable characters moving in real time in an action game, so that’s the visual aspect of it that we were interested in. Also, representing the visual style of the Fire Emblem characters in this game was really important to us.
Below is a Japanese version of the trailer (with more gameplay shown) that includes a release date, though it's worth noting it's still just Autumn / Fall in Europe and North America.
Are you looking forward to Fire Emblem Warriors on Switch and / or New 3DS? Are there any particular characters you're keen to see in the game?

Lissa sounds like she has a different VA and it looks like Alexis Tipton has kept up the streak of replacing Laura Bailey.
Though the dub's not as bad as most Musou dubs, it still sounds a bit off.
But we've got two axe users and a mage, so yay for variety (now if only the Japanese site would update so that I could make the Robin sprite my avatar...).
I really hope they haven't replaced Lucina's voice actor. She was amazing.
Well, facial animations are lacking, though it's solid overall. Good.
The final game would not be that exciting eventually (no musou is), but who knows.
Preordered on both systems. Really want to see Camilla in the game as she was my favorite in Fates
Seems like this will be the first actual Fire Emblem game I'll buy, sometimes I hate being an adult and having few time to play the proper franchise...
@Tetsuro depends on what you are into. personally I love them.
@Kmno well it's not really a fire emblem game. Kinda like hyrule warriors isn't really a Zelda game.
Looks great but I really hope we get Alm and Celica from Echoes and more characters from older games and not just loads of characters from Awakening and Fates.
@faint They look cheap game wise to me, no bad but cheap. Like Dragonball Z is in comparison to the original serie.
Chrom's dialogue, as per usual, is extremely cringe-inducing.
Really hope this has a dual audio option on the Switch. Let's hope they learned that from BotW...
Please IKE or Micaiah
meh, no female Robin from the looks of it (it's starting to irritate me a little, instead we got male Robin because there female Corrin (why not both for each?).
WE LIKE IKE.
I want this to be good. But whenever I see footage, I have my doubts.
As much as I love the new Fire Emblem games, I suspect that I'm going to hate this. While I will most likely get this, I have no excitement for it at all. I've bought Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper on Wii U, and while it can be enjoyable in local multiplayer, the same functionality will not be possible here without a second console and copy of the game, so it's a worse deal overall.
Hmmm...maybe but I did see the digital foundry on how the game performed on the footage from E3....maybe. The Warriors games never really did it for me so maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree.
@worldstraveller They wouldn't do both male and female versions of both corrin and robin as seperate characters, that would be a waste on the 19 ish character roster. But I wouldn't be surprised if in the campaign you only get female corrin and male robin, but their alternate genders (skin swap) can be either unlocked at a later point or used in other modes. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Time for me to inject some much needed hype into this comment section!
Lissa, Robin and Lucina being confirmed is awesome, but I had been hoping to see Frederick in this... and here he is! This game was already a must-buy from me (like any Musou game), but I guess it just became... double as must-buy?
That great and all, but I'm still not too interested in this game yet. Someone call me when Ike shows up.
Fire Emblem Warriors exclusive: General bond haired boy and girl
Sword user x2
FE Shadow Dragon: Marth and Tiki (only confirmation is the Amiibo and Dragon stone)
Sword user x1 Dragon x1
FE Awakening: Chrom, Lissa, Frederick, Robin and Lucina
Sword user x2 Axe user x2 Magic user x1
FE Fates: Corrin, Xander and Ryoma
Sword user x3
So far Sword user x8, Axe user x2, Magic user x1 Dragon user x1
Not a single lance user so far... I have a feeling the weapon triangle won't have much effect in this game. If they include a single lance use, they would destroy the 8 sword users.. haha
If awakening is any indication of which characters they are including, I'm thinking the other 6 siblings from Fates and at Caeda from Shadow Dragon will show up.
I'm hopeful they'll include an alternate skin for Tiki so I can play as Awakening Tiki. I'd be very happy with that, along with Lucina. ^__^
I'm looking forward to this game, but I doubt I'll be able to finish it if I have to listen to Lissa throughout.
Looks good but still needs one more thing. Where are my characters from Sacred Stones and Blazing Blade!!!!!! I want my Lyn and my Ephraim plz!!!!!! Since Ephraim is a lance user it would be great if they put him in the game to add weapon variety. Hector as an axe character and Eliwood as a sword user. Wait how would a bow character work? I guess they would work a lot like Linkle in Hyrule warriors. Camilla is no doubt confirmed. She is the queen waifu of many Japanese men after all. I just want representation from Sacred Stones and Blazing Blade, is that too much to ask?
@TsukiDeity It's probably for the reasons you stated, but still irks me a little, because of twin protagonists which kinda bases on the avatares defaults of male and female from the recent FE games (same hair color and eyes, the outfit is almost the same), unless they could make alternates as way to unlock the characters, for example the female robin being controlled by Grima as a boss fight (I think this would be cool, since in Awakening there is two Robins of the same gender, while played around parallel worlds of Awakening), something like that or similar.
It still bugs me, though.
I am one of those who wish for them to include Celica and Alm, I'm still am playing Echoes, though.
I would love to see Fire Emblem Echoes characters and maybe Male Corrin? or what about Ike?
Can't wait for a Fates trailer
looks like it will be getting two special editions by the looks of the japanese trailer.
Disappointed by the lack of older FE characters, to be honest.
Can't wait to play it in September!!! I ditched the idea of buying the NA version once I realized the Japanese version came out much earlier lol. And it's so nice to see what that dragon stone crystal looks like before seeing it irl!!
@brutalpanda yep more Nintendo stuff I'll never get.
@worldstraveller don't worry, I'm sure the alternate genders will be unlockable via the inevitable DLC.
And I wouldn't hold my breath for Alm and Celica until DLC either, as they said they want the game to focus on characters from Fates, Awakening, and Shadow Dragon. Shame because Lyn was my favorite lord, plus Ephraim and Erika were high up there too...
Maybe it's nitpicking, but contrary to the article here Hyrule Warriors made it perfectly clear the characters were not hailing from other realities, it was all time travel (in that non-canon universe, Cia, Lana, and the other characters were still from Hyrule). Though otherwise yeah, similar plot device, but it sorta has to be to make it all work.
Anyone know if Japanese voice / English subs is an option?
Would be a day 1 purchase for me if possible.
Nephenee where are you?
So it looks like Lissia, Frederick, Lucina, and Robin will be playable!
I'm going to go out on a limb and say every FE character that has an Amiibo will be in the game, too. So I think Roy and Tiki will be in it, too, especially because they kind of gave Tiki a new design, which is a mishmash of her various official outfits throughout the games, with it not being totally true to any of them.
So, I think Tiki, Ike, Roy, Alm, and Celica will be announced as playable eventually.
Love Lissa, she's so awesome 😀
This is a game for me. Without question. I love Fire Emblem. All of it. It's second only to Monster Hunter on the grand scale of fave series ever.
Seeing Chrom, and Frederick and Lissa lights my heart. I'd love to see Alm and Celica join in, or even Eliwood and Lynn. Ike too. I don't care though. I love em all, so it's all good! Hyrule Warriors was a fantastic game (and I don't really do mosou). This will be twice as good
Well, we get Frederick sounding like Frederick used to before Heroes, but then they take Lucina from us?
Fingers crossed for DLC characters
@Tetsuro You do realize they are not synced to the dialogue in this video right?
Honestly, I'm pretty excited for this game. We need an NA release date!
Only reason i even consider getting it is due to the Warriors style gameplay. Just hope it's as good as Hyrule Warriors was. I'll probably only get this for the Switch though, no need for a second portable game version when Switch basically covers both part. Also, while i enjoyed Hyrule Warriors on the 3DS, it had its limitations.
I love Awakening, so this trailer makes me quite happy. And we get our first non-sword characters shown, nice!
@MegaVel91 I had no audio to begin with.
@abbyhitter
Laura Bailey is a pretty famous voice actor so I'd be strange to replace her (unless Nintendo decided to be cheap), that said, Lucina's voice actor being uncredited in Fire Emblem Heroes, than changed for the Spring costume, is a bit worrisome.
For me personally, I hope Lucina's Japanese voice actor hasn't changed , and I'm having a hard time telling if it sounds different because it's a different person or because the quality is different off of the 3DS.
@ShadJV I just want Ephraim to get some love. This, Smash Bros, FE 8 remake, I don't care...just put him in somewhere.
I'm at least hoping for Ephraim DLC for this game.
