Re: Save Up To 70% On Square Enix Titles In The Publisher's Latest Switch eShop Sale

@HeftyLaces So I played through Integrade a couple of months ago, enjoyed it and did have a lot of fun exploring Midgar in high detail with modern graphics but the ending to the game left a really bad taste in my mouth with what they did to the story.

That all changed when they clarified things with the trailer for Rebirth though, so now I'm really curious about what's changed in Rebirth. Sadly I'm waiting for it to come out on PC.

I still have to say as much as I liked Integrade I still prefer the original FFVII to it. They're very different games and I just love the original more.

Re: Nintendo Sets Its Sights On Switch Emulator Yuzu In New Lawsuit

Chinesus

In general people really need to stop confusing emulation and piracy. Emulation software is perfectly legal, unless the emulator itself uses protected code. Dolphin fell into this trap recently when it was shown that they were using code from Nintendo in the emulator itself.

It can be a bit more complicated so for a much better, much more balanced look at the legal issues around emulation and how this might affect Yuzu (because people just screeching EMULATORS BAD gets very tedious) see Ars Technica: https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2024/02/how-strong-is-nintendos-legal-case-against-switch-emulator-yuzu/

Some of the puzzles in the original DS game were absolutely fiendish, I still remember this one puzzle I was stuck on for days before someone finally put me out of my misery and told me I needed to close the DS lid enough so that you could use the reflection of one screen on the second to solve the puzzle.

Really smart use of the hardware though. It sounds like the Switch version should live up to that.

Re: The Pokémon Company Will Share More Details On Scarlet & Violet - The Indigo Disk Tomorrow

Chinesus

@liljmoore For all of Scarlet and Violet's faults (and there are plenty of them) I can't fault the final dungeon Area Zero at all. Ok, there's not much of a challenge in the battles, but to be honest there's never been much challenge in the story battles in Pokemon.

But the design, aesthetic and music of Area Zero are just goddamn perfect, gave me chills the first time I got to it. It truly felt like you were exploring somewhere mysterious and dangerous.

Re: Random: This Drink Driving Game Is A Nasty Blemish On The Switch eShop

Chinesus

"nasty blemish on the Switch eShop"

You guys have got to be kidding with this anger at a bad or distasteful game being on the eShop like the eShop is some paragon of quality. Let's be fair here, this game is one miniscule drop in the sea of garbage shovelware on the Switch eShop.

I love my Switch but the eShop is just absolutely awful. There's no point even looking at the reduced category because you can't move for hentai puzzles, Unity asset flips and other electronic garbage designed purely to trick kids into buying using their parent's bank cards.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: The Hidden Treasure Of Area Zero Gets New Trailer

Chinesus

So I really enjoyed Scarlet despite the technical issues and there is no denying there are still serious technical issues with Scarlet, but did anyone else notice that even in their trailer, their own promotional material, the framerate was awful at parts? Like that bit with the crowd jumping in front of Clavell was basically a Powerpoint presentation 😂

I think that bit specifically was from the current build, which is, as noted, awful technically but you could see some of the new footage they put in was still a bit janky.

Re: Advance Wars Switch Dev Thanks Fans For Positive Reception, Calls Release A "Life Dream"

Chinesus

I've been playing it and I'm absolutely hooked, it's an amazing remake!

Thing is it's been a long time since I played the original GBA games so I'd forgotten the plot. When Nintendo first delayed the release because of the invasion of Ukraine I was with pretty much everybody else going "what a ridiculous reason to delay the game".

Now that I've played it...and the initial story is the unprovoked invasion of a country by a literal Russian stereotype apparently based on Stalin...yeah nah ok, that might have been a little too on the nose at the time. Fair shout, Nintendo.

Re: GameStop Fires Employee For Leaking Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Switch

>Employee releases private, privaleged information.
>Employee gets fired because of the consequences of his actions.

It's hilarious that so many people see this as a misstep by Nintendo, when this is really just a breach of basic job etiquette. You'd be fired in any job for releasing what is probably confidential information under an NDA.

Re: Random: Brand New Cockroach Species Has Been Named After A Pokémon

Chinesus

@Handy_Man Please don't remind me about SHH, it gives me flashbacks to having to learn about it for my degree.

If I remember right the worst bit was that they initially found like 5 sequential proteins, so they named them SHH1 - 5, but then they discovered new proteins that fit in the process but just carried on naming them sequentially so the order ended up being SHH 1, 2, 7, 3, 4, 6, 5 or something equally annoying to learn.

Ugh.
