if they stopped developing replicant on switch near the end, it's pretty much a sign that the hardware wasn't enough to handle the target upgrades. Replicant isn't a ps3 upscale like fanboys on reddit say, it's a big upgrade that make it look closer to automata, not only that but textures are re-done and they changed many elements in the combat system.
People should just admit the switch is too weak for this game and move on, unless the switch pro is a big enough upgrade, this game will remain available only on its current platforms. And porting the original is of no interest, it's a VERY clunky game that didn't age well, thanks to the upgraded version, many problems were fixed. Square is aware that the original would not sell well enough on switch, so the only hope is a next gen switch with a late port/version of the upgraded version
@BloodNinja yeah, and many switch games drop below 30fps, it's a no go for me. At least when at 60fps a game that will drop will still be above 30fps and it will feel smoother
@BloodNinja i'm specifically waiting for a 60fps all around switch. Ever since i switched from consoles to pc i just cant play at 30fps anymore, it looks too sluggish to my liking. It's not a graphics thing, i just prefer very fluid games
@TheFrenchiestFry just this morning on the switch subreddit i saw some entitled fanboy call square lazy for not releasing replicant on switch because "it's just a ps3 upscale"
Deffinitely agree, the switch hardware is at fault and in the end the upgraded version couldn't run properly. It's got nothing to do with laziness
@Giancarlothomaz just because these games worked out fine doesn't mean suddenly everything is possible. that's not how it works. why do you think there is no gta? no cod? no recent star wars game? it's not because the switch is not popular enough. that tired argument of "yeah but x game runs" is invalid in most cases. yeah, they run, with a LOT of downgrades and sacrifices and i'd even argue that doom eternal at 30fps is not worth it because the games was designed for 60fps and more due to its fast pacing nature.
@Miu i buy every big game on pc, i no longer have a switch but if the next model allows for 60fps in most games i'll get it. 30fps and less is un-appealing to me even in handheld gaming fashion
@Hero-of-WiiU that's because it really is a hardware problem. games made for one piece of hardware always look better than third party games. see god of war on ps4 or horizon or any big profile exclusive on ps4. Multiplats games have to deal with millions of different pcs, and two other consoles which all have better hardware than a switch. so what's your point?
@anoyonmus no, a direct port would be better. a remaster would be too demanding for the switch, cryengine is super heavy to run. the "remastered" version of the first one is barely upgraded. it'S 360 textures with better lighting.
The switch is more powerful than a 360 but barely because it's worse than an xbox one from 2012. the switch really isn't that powerful.
@anoyonmus yet that game ran at 20fps and even lower on 360, what's your point? it's not like crysis ran well on 360. heck, crysis "remastered" drops below 30fps on switch quite frequently.
@Miu in my opinion the switch should only get 2d, old 3d games and exclusives. that's what it's good for. most recent third party games aren't great and they cost more than the better versions.
yet there are still people begging for even bigger games like scarlet nexus and tales of arise. But if it becomes a reality they'll rant about how it doesn't run well.
@Rayquaza2510 the two biggest switch bottlenecks are its CPU and RAM, both are so slow they always cause problems while porting games to the platform. I've read somewhere that bandai wanted the latest SAO game on switch but when they tried porting it they ran into RAM bottlenecks and they stopped the project since.
@Miu there is a difference between streaming a game, and needing a connection online. genshin loads textures and whatnots from the device you're playing, so the hardware still has to render it in real time.
the phone in my pocket (s10+) is way more powerful than a switch so no surprise there. The people that say the switch's specs have nothing to do with the development going MIA have no clue what they're talking about. Unless you own a very old mobile device, your phone is most likely more powerful than your switch, so yes, the hardware is part of the problem. And mentioning witcher 3 and stuff doesn't change the fact that these games look super rough in comparison to any other platforms, they had to massively downgrade them because of the hardware, so stop saying the switch's hardware is never part of the problem. The tegra x1 dates from 2014, by mobile standards it's been long obsolete by now.
@Snatcher the difference between genshin and botw is that botw runs in an engine made for wii u and switch while genshin uses unity. Unity is taxing no matter the hardware, so yes it's a hardware bottleneck causing this.
so yes, it's deffinitely a hardware bottleneck causing the game's development to go MIA
lmao. way too late bandai, way too late. watch this be in bargain bins shortly after the release because nobody wants to pay 60 bucks for a game 3 years after the other versions released.
The first didn't even sell well on switch, i kept seeing it in bargains or special of the week stuff in games stores.
lol still doesn't mean p5 or p4 are coming to switch. those expectiong switch persona ports because of the anniversary will be in for a rough time. it's more likely to be pc ports given how well p4 sold on steam
they're just gonna release remasters on anything but the switch and wait 3 years to sell it full price on switch. Bandai loves to do crap like this with nintendo so don't get your hopes high.
I'm now a pc player, so if that happens i will laugh because i'll get to enjoy the games while switch owners won't for at least a couple of years. Not that i don't want a switch version, it's just that it's kindda of a running gag for publishers to treat switch owners like trash.
@GalacticBreakdown i'm not a kid tho. I'm past 25 and yes i still think this whole "pay full price for a downgraded version years later" tactic is complete bs. People that own a switch and nothing else are the minority among switch owners. You may buy it because you don't have a ps4 but more than half the switch install base has access to orher platforms.
3 years later? for 60 bucks i guess? please lol. you could get this game for as cheap as 15 bucks on the other platforms at times, why the hell would people buy this at like triple the price, for what will essentially a downgraded version.
Also don't tell me they needed 3 years to figure this out, i call bs.
why not get stuff like scarlet nexus up and running? Now, THAT would be worth paying the price
@Mr-Fuggles777 shooters target 30fps on switch... but they don't maintain it for the most part. The switch is just a last option, and publishers see the console that way. If you look at recent releases from bandai on switch, they're all games that didn't do too hot on playstation (god eater 3 and jumpforce)
Gave up half way through on ps4. Not because it was hard, but because the quality of writting went downhill with this one. Not to mention the unnecessary ammount of fillers, padding and poor pacing. And they also doubled down the harem.
@Azuris those are exeptions and not the rule. Very few "big third party games" actually run decently like those on switch. It doesnt magically mean all big games can run on switch
@Mr-Fuggles777 "lazy ports" is a bit of a stretch. It's not the devs fault if the hardware they are given has specs far below the ones recommended to run their games properly. The switch, is in reality, representative of what a "ps3 pro" would have been if it had been a thing back then.
But in this industry, money speaks louder than common sense, so games that are deffinitely not supposed to be on the switch, are gonna be a thing.
This is why i'm glad bandai doesn't release its upcoming games like scarlet nexus or tales of arise. Nobody would want to play them at an abysmal resolution and performance and with pop ins remeniscents of last gen (xbox 360/ps3)and bandai understands that their next big projetcts have no business being downgraded for the sake of portability.
Not feeling this one. If it's a big open world, it will be a disaster on switch (close pop ins, textures not loading in time, draw distance etc) due to how slow the RAM and CPU are.
@liljmoore tales of arise is bigger in scope and budget. They even upgraded the graphics A LOT. Highly doubt the switch can run it properly. They should stick to their guns and skip the switch. Not everything needs to be severely downgraded on switch
Just get another platform if you dont want to miss out on third party games.... even if the switch is a success no third party publisher is obligated to convert their engine to the switch's different hardware.
So enjoy the disaster that balan wonderworld is meanwhile 🙃
@MasterGraveheart lol the reason why most third parties avoid switch is because the hardware is simply not powerful enough. It's not "because it's nintendo"
nintendo hardcore fans sure like to set themselves up for disappointment with unrealistic expectations! Can't wait to have a good laugh at people being mad at nintendo for not announcing something they never promised.
It's always the same thing with new directs announced: Overhype, disappointement and angriness from fanboys
@kobashi100 you're right. they could ignore the xbox or pc if they felt like it. their project, their choice. It's just that for publishers it's more "ok" to leave nintendo in the dust than pc or xbox.
I'm on their side. Just because the switch is popular, it doesn't mean that suddenly everything is possible to port on the hardware.
Developpers have no obligation to support a platform that is purposefully behind in tech and less powerfull as well as having a different cpu architecture. That's entirely nintendo's fault.
what's fun in playing a heavily competitive game on switch (excluding the obvious first party releases)? The switch online isn't that great for that, the network hardware on switch kindda sucks, especially the wifi chip, even with the adapter it's still not all great.
Playing this on switch, you're stuck at home and can't play outside, so the portability argument has no weight for this release. That's without taking in consideration the usual massive downgrade in quality and very unstable framerate. The OG xbox one can't keep up with this game, it's only gonna be worst on switch. And a competitive Online shooter at 30fps WITH drops is a turn off for me.
If i'm gonna play a competitive shooter on switch, it needs to be 60fps.
@Darknyht you still don't get it? it's the framerate and pop ins that were the biggest issues on switch, just because the switch is lower specced, it doesn't mean people should agree with games that run so poorly they're similar to powerpoint presentations. Outter worlds is a tragedy on switch and always will be. And before you play the "you never had a switch" card, i did and was a day one owner and third party games were most of my purchases so i think i can tell when framerate ain't decent.
But go on, and rant about how DF compared with the other platforms and continue to ignore the real problems of the switch version.
@Friendly nintendo dominates in asia, yes, but that doesn't mean it's possible to release everything on it. there's a pretty popular anime that's getting a new games in 2021 but it's not coming to switch, instead they chose xbox one. Lots of games are gonna be on xbox rather than switch due to the gap of power. As sad as it is, this is what it's gonna be for the switch now that next gen hardware is here, lots of games won't even release on switch and it's why nintendo will need to pump those exclusives.
@Darknyht "The Switch version got dinged at release because it sacrificed a lot of visuals to run compared to the more powerful consoles."
Thats not true lol. The game was bashed because its framerate was atrocious to begin with. You have videos recorded with drops to 16fps in fights in the open areas on top of objects popping out of nowhere. And lets not forget the random "loadings"
@Heavyarms55 dont believe what that dude said. It actually runned like complete garbage. Imagine goldeneye 64 framerate (15fps), well you got that in battles in the open world. It never ran at 30fps to begin with.
i really don't think EA is gonna allow this port. They just won't care. And to the people that say it's crazy to ignore 80m people, yes it is, but EA survived with very minimal switch support since 2017, so it won't impact them at all if they continue like that. Most of the money made is from micro-transactions in their games.
Same for activision, minimal support and looking at things, they probably won't support the switch anymore this year.
They are different from smaller studios like falcom, where they ABSOLUTELY need a portable version of their games, simply because it's where they always sold the most, and since the vita is dead, they have no choice but to support the switch. EA and Activision never needed to depend on handheld sales and it's never gonna change.
@TheBigK you're right, it's never a bad thing but nintendo kindda needs more ips, simply because unlike sony or microsoft, they never get the same amount of support from third party publishers. Their only way out of this, is to have even more exclusives on their platforms to get more units sold.
For the sales the switch has done so far, i'm unimpressed with its third party support mostly consisting of indie projects, last generation ports and the very rare modern game. The only modern projects that are on switch are those that don't have the budget of AAA games.
