Awww yeah, we love it when a rumour turns out to be true — especially when it concerns the excellent Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom (or, to be honest, anything from Level-5).
Yes, Ni No Kuni 2 is coming to Switch on the 17th of September, 2021, and even better, it looks like it's going to have a physical version, too. Now that's what we like to hear!
Ni No Kuni 2 begins with the President of a real-world Earth country being transported to a magical kingdom where every person is also sort of an animal as well. It's goofy, sure — especially as the main villain is a rodent — but in true Level-5 style, it's a fantastically well-localised game that's brimming with heart, and a brilliant soundtrack to boot.
Sadly, young Drippy from the first game — everyone's favourite Welsh sidekick — has been replaced by Lofty, the illegitimate and impossible lovechild of Lisa Simpson and Ponyo. He's still Welsh, though! Cymru am byth!!
There's more good news: the Switch version of the game, called "Prince's Edition", will include all the DLC: The Adventure Pack, The Lair of the Lost Lord, and The Tale of a Timeless Tome, as well as the "Prince's Equipment Pack", which will include a few cool weapons, items, and some hideous Lofty-themed jewellery.
In case you're wondering about the DLC:
The Tale of a Timeless Tome includes new stories, new Martial Methods, and new dungeons.
The Lair of the Lost Lord includes a new Martial Method, new stories, and a 100-level dungeon which requires you to be quite high-level to play.
The Adventure Pack includes a new dungeon, new outfits, and new items.
The DLC is not particularly well-reviewed, in large part due to the fact that it focuses on the grindy, slightly boring dungeons, rather than the much more interesting main areas of the game, but you won't be paying extra for them, at least.
So, how about it? Are you excited to experience the Ghibli-esque wonder of Ni No Kuni on Switch? Let us know in the comments!

This means hope for Yo-kai Watch 4 in the West!! This is exciting.
I know a good amount of people didn't enjoy this one as much but if I see anything resembling Ghibli, I buy.
I'll buy this just because I have the first game, but I don't think I'll be playing it for a very long time.
I still need to play my PS4 copy... which I will play after I finish the first one... whenever I get back to it. I think I started playing the first when Two Point Hospital came out, then Yakuza Remastered Collection came out and so on. It just kind of got forgotten about. The presentation was wonderful though.
Give me the remaster of the first game or get OUT.
Yes! Great game (in some aspects is better than the first, imo), and it looks quite sharp on Switch. What an amazing year for the JRPGs fans!
PS: September is looking good all of a sudden, between this and Kitaria Fables XD
A really nice additon to the Switch JRPG collection. Brings me hope that Level 5 will still release stuff in the West ^_^
@NikHogan I also hope that will happen! Besides, they should release Fantasy Life 2 on consoles, not just phones...
You owe it to yourself to try this one out. It's nothing like the first game in the best ways.
I plan to get it.
Day 1. Mildly embarrassed that I bought the ps4 collector’s edition last BF but I would rather have this on a system that gets play time from me.
It's alright if you want to grind away a few hours, but the original is much better. I don't feel a need to buy it again.
-but does look better than expected on Switch.
@bozz Personally I enjoyed this one more than the first. The story doesn't have as much heart in it, but the combat is much more bearable.
That’s neat loved the first one😊
@the_beaver For real, in the last 30 minutes my September went from nothing happening to holy cucumbers, where will I find the time?
Yes!!!
And please give us Yo-Kai Watch 4 as well, thanks!
I'm looking forward to this one. Hopefully it will be a half price Black Friday deal like the first one was...
@Cynas Yeah, I looooove the first but the AI drove me nuts at times.
Awesome! The first game is magical!
Ahhh I can't wait! My friend and I had a blast playing through the first game on switch. This is so exciting
I so wanted to like the original but I gave up after about 10 hours as I detested the combat.
Need to finish the first one. Guess I better get on that. Love Ghibli, and I'm glad this one is coming to the Switch!
Awesome news. I thought 2020 would be a tough act to follow in Switch JRPG goodness, but this year is shaping up to be on par.
It's about time, looks like Namco is just releasing some catching up titles for Switch which to me is okay (Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot is probably next after this). The Switch version doesn't need to be release same time as the others as good optimization and performance on Switch really needs time to cook before it could be serve. Will definitely double dip on this one even though I already got it on Steam.
Yo kai watch and professor Layton fans......... this is hope
@JasmineDragon LOL, so true.
i absolutely love ni no kuni so i'm getting this
Definitely better than the first, I even got the Platinum for this on PS4. Combat was way better in this entry, and I liked the kingdom building side of things.
Glad I waited instead of buying the PS4 version. I didn't finish Ni No Kuni 1 and it's been so long since I played it last. I'll start a new game of the original and finish it this time in preparation for 2.
Make sure you build kingdoms as soon as you can. As I hit a big wall with that on ps4 as there is a bit that won't let you progress further unless you have built X amount of kingdoms. Just letting people know so they don't hit the same brick wall as me.
Glad I held off on buying the PS4 version. Now, I can complete the collection on my Switch instead.
Now I need to play the first.
Thumbnail = Penny from Inspector Gadget...
That looks like it needs to be sitting on my shelf collecting dust.
Sold!
Cool to hear, I've heard excellent things about this series. I'll consider picking up the first one later if I finish up more of my backlog.
Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom does not require you to play the original Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.
1) This game includes the DLC
2) You do not need any background information from the previous game
3) This game has entirely different battle mechanics, which I whole-heartedly endorse compared to the original.
4) I finished Ni No Kuni II on PS4 a few years ago and I am definitely buying it for Switch.
This game is a blast and has so much story!
SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL (personal preference)
@Kreko and the remaster is basically a resolution and fps bump, so the Switch doesn't miss too much there.
@bones definitely
@DomGC
Totally agree the first become a complete slog too play and soon grew bored of the combat , found combat here so better and more fluid also enjoyed the large scale battles and building my kingdom. Story was better in the first.
@Conangiga
All the remaster was , 60fps at 1080 and 30 at 4k(pro only), last would be impossible on the switch and with how the game is it's not a huge deal breaker it's not it's a racing game of something would benefits from.higher FPS, much rather have it portable.
I was enjoying the first one back on PS3, but in the end it was a combination of the PS4 coming out and my getting annoyed with whatever boss battle I was on. Never finished the game in the end, but now I'm wondering if it would be worth it to pick up both games on the Switch.
I've always seen such split comments on if this one or the first one was better. I finished the first one last year and while it was a super charming game, I have to admit it did drag a bit for me. I don't know if I want to get this one but maybe I will if it goes on sale as frequently as the first one.
Appreciate anything Level-5 game that is localized. Thanks Bamco!
No complaints about another excellent title making the Switch! Though this one appears divisive from what I've read online. I still need to pick up and play the first game.
Great game but its hard to get excited about a port for a 3 year old game.
Where are the new games?
Another excellent game coming over to the switch I’ll definitely put this in my watch list
Wait for a sale if possible. They're very frequent on PC and you can get the best edition at ~85% off - the same should eventually happen on Switch.
The combat was vastly improved from the first game but the story and characters are nowhere as good.
@bozz See...story wise 1 is far far superior. Its more engaging, the characters i cared about..it 2, not so much.
But gameplay wise, 2 is way way better. It has loads of different game play types but it actually works. Even the RTS parts worked well. On ps4 it is unbelievably pretty.
Took so long.. well better late than late.
Awesome news! Definetely buying this one qnd playing on the bed before sleep time
I've played all of Ni No Kuni 2 it's OK but I wouldn't recommend it over Wrath of the White Witch
Hopefully this sells well. I don’t want another AlphaDream situation...
Interesting. I enjoyed the world and the characters in the first one because I love Level-5 and Studio Ghibli stuff but I was terrible at the battles. I never bothered to learn the system properly. I just sort of cheesed my way to the end by running around to avoid attacks and spamming the same super-strong spell during boss fights.
I wanted to enjoy the first one, I really did. I adore Studio Ghibli movies and characters. However the familiars aspect of the combat turned me off so much. I'm an older gamer, I despise all things Pokemon/pet related. So I gave up and got rid of the game after about 10-15 hours. I'll keep my eye out on this one to see if this combat system is the same, if not. Oh well, guess I'll just watch a Youtube with all cutscenes/story like I did the first one.
We've come to a point that we consider a physical edition good news. Sad, but true. We always fear there won't be one, by default.
Loved the first one will eventually buy this one too.
@bozz Really it is a lovely, lovely, lovely game. The only bad thing is that the poor companion AI made it impossible to play on the harder difficulties. I loved playing it on PS4 Pro, and the protagonist was the exact opposite of the Trump's and Bolsenaro's of the World. It had a nice message. The story was very like a Dragon Quest game in that each Town had its own self contained story. It comes with a very high recommendation from me.
...I feel like I should play these games, was thinking about the first one, but...I dunno...ugh. lol
I share the opinion with a lot of people here, The first Ni no Kuni it's great but damn the battle system is boring af.
This was already confirmed to be getting a switch release. Though the release date is new info.
Great news. I really enjoyed the first game, always nice to get more Level 5 support.
@NikHogan I believe the Western release was announced ages ago, but Level 5 has been very quiet on it for some time.
Ugh bought it on ps4 in a sale already. Gotta resist the want to have both on switch.
This is a fantastic game, but the pitch meeting must have been all types of crazy.
What's the game about?
-Well you play as a cute little mouse creature in a world with tons of human and personified animals
Sounds great, people love that stuff, and who will by in the players party?
-Yeah there is this really badass pirate girl, an inventor, the president of the united states, a really powerful mage
Wait what?
-Really powerful story as well, it focuses on a disposed king trying to use diplomacy to create a alliance between different lands, lead armies in combat, recruit people into a village and assign them to jobs. One of the first side quests is about this girl who is leading a band of pirates that is going to flat out murder the player for basically no reason.
Ok that last part seems odd
-And they are both like ... 8? It's kinda ambiguous, maybe the guy who the whole word is willing to have lead them and directly oversees a complex interrelated economy while leading armies in battle is a little older then the girl who is willing to straight up murder people and who's introduction and back story makes it basically an absolute certainty that she's murdered innocent people in the past. Maybe he's like 10.
Are you ... on drugs?
Level 5 released Ni No Kuni II but are they also taking care of the Switch version or is Nintendo or Bandai Namco taking care of the Switch port as Level 5 have financial issues
I still need to play the first one, but cool!
Didn't see this coming. Very cool, even if I'm not exactly the person most excited for it.
lmao. way too late bandai, way too late. watch this be in bargain bins shortly after the release because nobody wants to pay 60 bucks for a game 3 years after the other versions released.
The first didn't even sell well on switch, i kept seeing it in bargains or special of the week stuff in games stores.
I wonder how this game will run on the Switch.
Honestly really enjoyed this on the PS4 to the point that I was looking forward to the 2 paid DLCs so I could do some more high level content and such.
Even if this might run a bit ass on switch people should still get it as you get quite a good amount of content in this package and is overall highly enjoyable.
Great game! I have on my ps4
Amazing news!
I got the collector edition when it first released, then bought on Steam to play portably on my Win 2.
But I've moved on from the Win 2 now. I'm all about Switch. Can't stand playing games anywhere else. So finally being able to add Ni No Kuni 2 to the hybrid collection alongside Ni No Kuni is 100% chef's kiss.
Is this what some refer to as a "furry" game? I see a main character with feline features, and anthropomorphic animals. Yet this game is not being criticized as deviant...
I guess I'm out of the loop.
Does the sequel have the same ridiculous difficulty spike? I got stuck on the first game when suddenly the enemies became impossible to beat
@dojmin Nah, if you keep up with equipment and everything this one never really gets too difficult
Getting this, again! =)
Yes. Great news. Instabuy. I appreciate it isn't as good as the first game but it's still reviewed as a great game.
@suikoden @Kreko
I thought the remaster had some QoL improvements. Seems I was wrong.
Always been interested in Ni No Kuni II. I played the demo of the first Ni No Kuni long ago and while gorgeous and charming, I'm just not a fan of most monster collection JRPG's as a battle mechanic anymore. I much prefer a steady cast of characters that aren't as replaceable, stay and grow with you throughout the whole game. So this sounds like more my thing I think!
I''ve been really big fan of this game for some time already, thank you so much for brinding it to Switch!!
Great news, though I have yet to play the first one (I barely started).
I liked the first game BUT the battle mechanics could have ruined it for anyone.
