Sega's Yakuza: Like A Dragon has become the most successful title in the series' history, and it's apparently thanks to its global launch.
As a result, Sega is now keen to see its subsidiary, Atlus - best known for series like Persona and Shin Megami Tensei, release its games simultaneously around the world, rather than have fans in certain regions wait for months on end.
Here's exactly what Sega's vice president Shuji Utsumi had to say, during an interview with Famitsu (via ResetEra):
"Simultaneous worldwide release on multiple platforms will be a tailwind for titles. Of course we'll make adjustments for each title, but we'd like to be aware of global expansion for Atlus titles as well."
One upcoming Atlus release that will be a worldwide launch is the Switch exclusive Shin Megami Tensei V - although it seems Nintendo is helping make this happen.
How would you feel about not having to wait as long for certain Atlus releases? Did you hold out for a local copy of Persona 5 Strikers in the end? Leave a comment down below.

Eh. The staggered release of Atlus games in Western regions means we get the games with all of the patches, updates, etc. included by default.
With that said, I'm also ridiculously excited that we won't have to wait months for SMT V. Hopefully they can make it work well with their other releases.
I don't see why not, seems to be what most publishers do these days.
It'd be nice, but in cases like Nocturne's remaster, it's almost better having to wait, since that game released a buggy mess.
@samuraicop it is coming out this year.
I still hope for Persona 5 to come out to switch because playing strikers before persona 5 just feels wrong
Actions speak louder than words. Until they start actually releasing more new games (that aren't ports) on Switch, then I don't have much interest in their products. SMT V's simultaneous release would be a good starting point.
I’d love for that to happen. Is it though? Not likely.
What is really like to see is them finally give in and port games to other consoles (I’m looking at you Persona 5)! They have demand. They have the know how. Like Nike “Just do it”!
I remember the dark days of "Atlus game won't be released in Europe unless some other publisher picks it up even as Atlus USA releases other Japan-only games in Europe it won't even release in the States, which means a delay of up to two years".
Being bought by SEGA was the best thing to have ever happened to them because this backward policy was obliterated.
If day and date means patching the games beyond recognition after the fact, then no thank you.
Release games when they're ready, not because publishers want to begin monetising a game when it isn't even finished yet (really, what other industry gets away with this sort of crap?).
Also, new Trauma Centre when?
Yakuza Like a Dragon did not have a global launch, It was released a lot earlier in Japan than it was in the rest of the world
@anoyonmus You’re more likely to get struck by lightning twice in a row than Persona 5 ever coming to switch.
@samuraicop Persona 5’s never coming to switch. If you want to play it, you’ll be better off getting a ps4 and playing it there.
@VoidofLight never say never. You cannot know this.
"Yakuza: Like a Dragon paid off"
In other news, water is wet.

@Silly_G I'm with you. I've already decided not to purchase SMT V for this very reason (and because there will be a Complete Edition soon enough).
I find the contempt of the video game industry for its customers to be fascinating and disgusting in equal measure, in part because it is so open. Yes, other industries I've seen up close look down on the masses (advertisers, automakers), but there is a special bite to it in this business. Worst of all, many of the customers seem to share these feelings...
What's holding shin megami tensei V from being released? Thought they said first quarter or i am I missing something 🤔
And now they come with this conclusion?
Pretty sad. You think SEGA could like...make use of them but nope. Gotta let Atlus be Atlus.
Global same day release probably does help sales alright but let's make sure quality is there.
I do love Atlus games but a few have had problematic launches and I hate the practice of there will be a better version later but we will see it as a separate full price game. (Allow a dlc update like otherwise I'm there going will I wait til complete gold royale super patched less bugs version arrives )
It's about damn time they consider this. Localization should be much easier now than it was back then.
Sure, the games may be glitchy at launch, but most games do anyways.
lol still doesn't mean p5 or p4 are coming to switch. those expectiong switch persona ports because of the anniversary will be in for a rough time. it's more likely to be pc ports given how well p4 sold on steam
@samuraicop They'll probably show/talk more about SMT 5 at this year's E3.
So am I behind in the times, or are people still saying they're waiting for the normal P5 on switch before getting Strikers?
Personally, I really like the quality of english dub in most Atlus' games. These kind of takes time. I wonder how they plan to make it work, release with no dubs or patch them in in later date?
@iuli Took them only since 2008 to bring P4 to Steam. Bodes well for a P5 release on Switch 3.0 I wager! 😁
Atlus I'd literally pay full price for vanilla P5 on Switch so just give it to me already.
@JokerCK Given the fact that the game got a re-release and they never put it on switch, as well as the persona 4 port not coming to switch means it’ll never come.
Atlus is still living in the 90s when the west had to wait for their games to be released months after japanese release date. Nevertheless Digital Devil Saga would be a nice duology on Switch.
@JayJ Budget I would imagine and to see if it actually sells.
They can use money from sales to get it localized and their games can be very niche so if the hype for it is low outside of Japan then they didnt waste money.
@KrupierX Most of their games are fairly text heavy, a few months wait is no problem for me for a better translation.
