Re: Feature: Nintendo May Win Its Case Against The US Government, But Tariffs Are Here To Stay

CaptainQuo

@Tasuki I think it goes far deeper than putting a cross in a box. None of the candidates have been appealing for some time due to their failure to provide adequate solutions. Thatcher & Reagan's legacy in the UK & U.S was to push the Overton window further right economically and push the lessaiz-faire, neo-liberal idea that public spending works like a household budget and spending must be reigned in.

The result of which, much like in the 1920's, is that working people get squeezed financially while public services and living standards collapse and the rich hoard what is left, leading to increasingly desperate people to vote for populist parties, many on the right being especially nasty and hateful.

People like Trump and Farage are merely a symptom of 40 years of neo-liberal economic orthodoxy that sees the most vulnerable blamed while the rich profit.

Re: Nintendo's Apparently Cutting US Switch 2 Output After Lower Than Expected Holiday Sales

CaptainQuo

@Anguspuss Food in the US was never cheap, unless they are eating out (although even this is getting ridiculous, they have started tipping 30% which is madness). It's insanely expensive to buy groceries, because they prioritise cheap consumer goods over everything else. Yay for the American Nightmare.

With the tariffs and current warmongering, the cost of living is only going up higher to the point even cheap electronics won't keep the masses from revolting against their Dear Leader.

Re: Europe Might Be Forcing Nintendo To Revise The Switch 2

CaptainQuo

@The21zonz Libertarians don't want other people's lives to be easier. Unless they are millionaires.

As the late, great Christopher Hitchens said: "You don't need to make a virtue out of selfishness, because human beings are already selfish."

Curious that right-leaning Libertarians only care about unchecked power when the state does it - but never greedy corporations.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch 2's GameCube Library This Week

CaptainQuo

Wanted the original GC game but within a year of release it had already rebounded to it's original price for a second hand copy.

From there it hovered around £50-60 for a couple of years before getting more and more expensive/scarce.

Currently fetches £200 on eBay which is nuts.

Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Pokopia 'Undersupplied' At Retail And Falls Short

CaptainQuo

@Otoemetry While I get your point about BDS, that differs very much as we are talking about companies tied to a country where there are very serious crimes being committed that is also making headline news globally. Not sure you can compare to a gaming company for selling GKC's.

Also for those arguing we should buy digital instead of GKCs.....isn't that just hastening the death of physical media? Digital versions are the reason we are in this mess. Seems utterly bonkers.

Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Pokopia 'Undersupplied' At Retail And Falls Short

CaptainQuo

Also boycotting a multi-million pound company operating in multiple markets doesn't work. Boycotts only work for smaller, localised actions that can be targeted to reduce sales in a particular region or a smaller local/national company provided there is enough press coverage. See the current issue with Rockstar North illegally sacking employees under UK law. Most people responded "shut up and take my money."

I don't like GKC's and will avoid where possible, but I don't think we have a choice, and I don't like people gloating about the death of physical media either.

Both groups are pretty awful in the way they express themselves.

Like I said, nuance is not allowed on the internet anymore. Everything must be polarising 'black vs white' nonsense.

Re: UK Charts: Pokémon Pokopia 'Undersupplied' At Retail And Falls Short

CaptainQuo

I just want to remind people that It's possible to be against Game Key Cards in principle and still buy them, given that it the only way to play a physical copy of certain games. You simply don't have a choice.

People taking sales of GKC's as evidence that people must want them is odd, but not shocking anymore since nuance has been dead for some time.

Picking between a bad option and a worse option does not mean the bad option is now suddenly good.

Re: Talking Point: After 30 Years, Is It Time To Reset The Pokédex?

CaptainQuo

I do a bit of a Gary Oak and ditch early game Pokemon for my preferred ones, so I think the issue is how you play the game.

I rarely keep the early game bird and often in subsequent playthroughs ditch the starters and pick new Pokemon I've never used.

What I wanted to see, pretty much since Red & Blue (I got quite obsessive about it) was starter Pokemon and early game variety in wild Pokemon. For example, first three starters could be Ice, Ground, Rock. Or Fighting, Psychic & Dark.

With the Pokedex getting increasingly huge, what if they slightly randomised Pokémon placement (but not levels) so you get a level 1 Wingull and someone else gets a level 1 Murkrow in the early routes.

Re: 50 Best Nintendo 3DS Games Of All Time

CaptainQuo

@Uncle_Franklin It's complicated (she was abusive), but effectively, yes. She doesn't even play games, thinks they are a waste of time and even actively stopped me playing them.

The games they had are probably ridiculously expensive now (and would have been back then). Especially Infinite Space.

Re: 50 Best Nintendo 3DS Games Of All Time

CaptainQuo

That's a lot of Shin Megami Tensei.....

I bought a 3DS a few years ago for similar reasons to buying the Switch 2 (backwards compatibility as my ex never game me my DS or PSP back). I haven't really played it much though to be honest.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem Leakers Deserve "A Thousand Deaths", Says Hideki Kamiya

CaptainQuo

The credence and credibility modern gamer "culture" if you can call it that, lends to leakers is so frustrating.

Bad for the studios, but even worse for gaming as a hobby as online clout becomes more important than anything else in society.

As if to prove my point, the usual thin-skinned basement dwellers are out in force to probably organise a short-lived boycott of this guys games. The online gamer equivalent of running away from home and only making it to the end of the street.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 5 Pokémon?

CaptainQuo

Last Gen that I played, and not really that much tbh. Most of the 'mons I know from playing a lot more Pokemon Conquest than Black & White, even though I did play Black.

I like Darmanitan, Hydreigon, Elektross, Chubchoo, Garvantula & Zebstrika. I'm a sucker for unique typings.

Hydreigon is my favourite design.

At some point, they seemed to go a bit crazy for adding a billion Legendaries and mega evolutions made it even more unbalanced. Also they didn't cover every Japanese region, which makes me sad.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 4 Pokémon?

CaptainQuo

Lots of cool designs (excuse the pun), such as Abomasnow, Torterra, Toxicroak, Skorupi, Stunky and Driftloon. Lots of cool new poison types.

Torterra wins it for me, though this is at the point I stopped playing as much Pokemon as I didn't get a DS and Diamond until much later when people were probably playing Gen 5 or 6.
