I do a bit of a Gary Oak and ditch early game Pokemon for my preferred ones, so I think the issue is how you play the game.
I rarely keep the early game bird and often in subsequent playthroughs ditch the starters and pick new Pokemon I've never used.
What I wanted to see, pretty much since Red & Blue (I got quite obsessive about it) was starter Pokemon and early game variety in wild Pokemon. For example, first three starters could be Ice, Ground, Rock. Or Fighting, Psychic & Dark.
With the Pokedex getting increasingly huge, what if they slightly randomised Pokémon placement (but not levels) so you get a level 1 Wingull and someone else gets a level 1 Murkrow in the early routes.
@andykara2003 My recommendation would be FireRed/LeafGreen, but HeartGold/SoulSilver are also good options.
As a man pushing 40, I found Lets Go Pikachu/Eeevee far too easy and oversimplified, like they were dumbing it down for younger children. If the other Switch titles are anything like that I would avoid them.
@Uncle_Franklin It's complicated (she was abusive), but effectively, yes. She doesn't even play games, thinks they are a waste of time and even actively stopped me playing them.
The games they had are probably ridiculously expensive now (and would have been back then). Especially Infinite Space.
I bought a 3DS a few years ago for similar reasons to buying the Switch 2 (backwards compatibility as my ex never game me my DS or PSP back). I haven't really played it much though to be honest.
The credence and credibility modern gamer "culture" if you can call it that, lends to leakers is so frustrating.
Bad for the studios, but even worse for gaming as a hobby as online clout becomes more important than anything else in society.
As if to prove my point, the usual thin-skinned basement dwellers are out in force to probably organise a short-lived boycott of this guys games. The online gamer equivalent of running away from home and only making it to the end of the street.
Last Gen that I played, and not really that much tbh. Most of the 'mons I know from playing a lot more Pokemon Conquest than Black & White, even though I did play Black.
I like Darmanitan, Hydreigon, Elektross, Chubchoo, Garvantula & Zebstrika. I'm a sucker for unique typings.
Hydreigon is my favourite design.
At some point, they seemed to go a bit crazy for adding a billion Legendaries and mega evolutions made it even more unbalanced. Also they didn't cover every Japanese region, which makes me sad.
Lots of cool designs (excuse the pun), such as Abomasnow, Torterra, Toxicroak, Skorupi, Stunky and Driftloon. Lots of cool new poison types.
Torterra wins it for me, though this is at the point I stopped playing as much Pokemon as I didn't get a DS and Diamond until much later when people were probably playing Gen 5 or 6.
@AG_Awesome I enjoyed the art style and animations - the guards do a silly arm flail sometimes to attack you, and will stomp you to death with a sickening splat. Great sound effects and some decent, if mild, visual humour so far.
If you enjoy MGS an obsessive amount you'll love this. Unfortunately given this was a demo I felt the constant MGS references a little forced and grating, with the caveat that I'm not really an MSG fan.
Gameplay seems to be mostly stealth which is fine in small doses but if this is going to be the whole game, it isn't my cup of bovril.
You have a one hit death but the game gives you a half second to camouflage yourself if you are spotted so it is a little more forgiving.
Thats all for now. I may have more but as I say, not sure it's for me.
@Neo2814 I expressed my opinion. You or that other guy didn't have to get upset about it and write a defensive wall of text in response or go digging through my post history.
@Neo2814 I don't care about sales. SotN just isn't a very fun experience. People are allowed to have personal taste and not be a fanboy who laps up every single entry of a series.
Just because something is popular, does not automatically mean it is good.
"People also like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people, Jez."
Just reinforces that people who obsess over these details are a wee bit sad. Wouldn't really be able to tell any difference without a direct comparison side by side.
Lots of companies just not putting effort in for optimisation. No excuses.
Lack of Metaphor, Duskbloods & Clair Obscur was a huge disappointment.
I really dislike Bethesda and seeing Fallout 4, which was the beginning of the decline for the Fallout series, get announced like it was a big deal was like a dagger in the heart.
Levelling and perks in Fallout 4 took a nosedive, just like the terrible levelling in other Bethesda games.
I'm a bit fed up of so many different variations of FF VII. It wasn't even that good when it first came out. FF VI was superior in every way. Why don't they remake that instead?
@the_beaver I'm not angry about it at all, just find the obsession with spending huge sums of money to re-purchase games we can already access or play hugely concerning.
Like when people say "I'm not really interested in this but I will buy it to support the developer" - you don't have to spend money on luxury goods for its own sake.
I never used to hear people constantly talk about backlogs or buying games and not even opening them because they are playing others. Now it seems people just buy stuff for no reason.
Unless people are not being honest with themselves about why they really buy games.
I wonder if this hints at two new characters? Most of the remaining villagers are merchants, old folk or kids, and Jodi/Kent look too similar to Leah/Alex.
@Nep-Nep-Freak The designs look exactly the same. Most people don't even seem to be complaining most about the casino stuff, but for some reason are unhappy about a bit of cloth being added to a character.
@FrenchVaniIIuxe They mention it had been streamlined, but what exactly are they 'censoring' that you object to given these are child-like character models?
@Nep-Nep-Freak Complaining because LGBT+ people can openly express themselves in a game then demanding 'free speech' to make bigoted comments is not really a 'both sides' issue.
You are proof that 'Libertarians' don't care about liberty, or you would be defending LGBT+ inclusion.
@nessisonett Doesn't make sense to call it 'Lowland' Scots as that would imply Doric is not spoken in the Lowlands, and Aberdeen is in the Northern Lowlands.
As much as Aberdeen has a lot of horrible, snobby people with money, I still can't get over the weird hatred Glaswegians have for what they call the 'Glasgow Uni' accent.
As if you can't be a 'real' Glaswegian unless you sound like an East End ned. Think of yourselves as the most 'down to Earth' folk who 'tell it like it is' yet have a talent for self-promotion and self-aggrandisement.
You would be lucky to ever hear someone who doesn't have a generic West of Scotland accent in films. Americans think we all have one accent and all sound Glaswegian.
And yes, Glasgow Scots is mostly gone. You are confusing Scottish English with Scots.
Aberdonian living in Glasgow, miss being able to speak the Doric dialect of Scots as most Glaswegians look down on it. This despite losing much of their own dialect of Scots long ago due to effects of urbanisation, industrialisation, kids getting Scots language skills historically beaten out of them and the Scottish Cultural Cringe.
To this day, the greatest concentration of Scots speakers are in Grampian (i.e Aberdeenshire) amongst the fishing and farming communities with the second biggest numbers in East Ayrshire due to Burns being from Ayrshire and that part of it being even more remote and rural.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Pokémon Pokopia
If only my eyes could get over the Minecraft-esque blocky visual style.
Re: Nintendo Indie World Showcase Announced For Tomorrow, 3rd March 2026
Once again, for all those complaining about no general 1st party Direct - why don't you play your "backlog" you keep wittering on about?
Or stop buying so many games you apparently don't have time to play.
Re: Quiz: Can You Name That Pokémon?
23/25 isn't bad given I haven't played since Black/White, and didn't know half of the last two Gens.
Re: Final: What's Your Favourite Pokémon Ever? - Pick From Our 9 Poll Winners
I will never understand why people like Lucario or Greninja.
Re: Poll: So, Which Starter Will You Choose In Pokémon Winds & Waves?
Pombon, naturally. Fire is the best type and Pom is the cutest.
Re: He-Man's Arcade-Style Retro Brawler Locks In A Release Date For Switch
Unfortunately I don't think they will release the physical edition in Europe if Limited Run are handling it.
The trailer was really good and I especially loved the hard rock power ballad.

That's a lot of Shin Megami Tensei.....

Re: Marvel Maximum Collection Revives Six Classic Superhero Titles On Switch
Another collection of games where 90% can easily be played on an emulator.
The only stand out is the X-Men arcade game.
Maximum Carnage has a surprisingly faithful cover of The Mob Rules by Black Sabbath though

Re: Viral Hit 'POOLS' Surfaces On Switch Next Week
Mastering the art of turning tech demos into games people pay money for. I think the trailer is enough to whet (or should that be wet?) my appetite.

Re: Ori Dev Shows 'No Rest For The Wicked' Running On Switch 2
The visuals and art style put me off. Reminds me too much of Blizzard.
Re: Ren & Stimpy Are Getting A 7-Game Retro Collection, Courtesy Of Limited Run
Just play them free on an emulator as this is a rip-off for what you actually get.
Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 4 Pokémon?

Re: Nintendo Is Considering A Switch 2 Price Hike This Year, According To New Report
Haven't we been told they are "considering" a price increase repeatedly for the last 8 months?
This of course, will all be somehow only Nintendo's fault even though they're all doing it.
Just buy less games/consoles and get one second hand, it's not that hard.
Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 3 Pokémon?
Numel. I have a Numel plushie and he kept me company during Covid as I worked from home.
I now have more plushies (and a real life cat), but Numel is the only Pokemon.
Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 2 Pokémon?
I like Flaaffy, Tyranitar and Hounddoom, but I went for the latter.
Too many baby Pokemon and random extra evolutions or Pokemon that didn't evolve at all in Gen II. Gen III was better.
Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 1 Pokémon?
Between: Rhydon, Ninetails, Raichu, Golem, Sandshrew/slash, Weezing and Starmie.
I went with Rhydon.

Re: Want To Play MGS As An Octopus? Darwin's Paradox's Free Demo Can Help
This has been on my wishlist for a while now. Will try the demo later and report back.

Re: Konami's Anniversary Revival Of Castlevania Is Only Just Beginning, Expect More "New Products"
Give me Rondo of Blood. To hell with Metroidvanias. Market is overrun with them.
Re: Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Unveiled For Switch, Launching In 2026
Why can't they make a good, classic Castlevania instead of this overdone "Metroidvania" stuff?
Symphony of the Night wasn't that good. Rondo of Blood is the model they should follow.
In fact, just release Rondo of Blood as many people still can't play it.
Re: Diablo II: Resurrected Announces New 'Warlock' Class, And It's Available Today
£20.99?! That's daylight robbery. Reinforcing once again why I hate Activision even more than EA. Should have been a fiver at most.
Paid less than that for the full game!
Re: Preview: Despite Low Expectations, Pokémon Pokopia Had Me Grinning From Ear To Ear
The gameplay sounds really good, I'm just not sold on the visual style or the GKC. I'll wait for reviews and a second hand copy for cheaper.
Re: The Hundred Line Creator Wants To Keep The Game Going For "Around Ten Years"
You can start by releasing a European/Australian physical version then.
Re: Capcom's New IP Is Off To A Promising Start As Demo Hits One Million "Combined Downloads"
I thought the gameplay was pretty average from what I played. Maybe I'm missing something?
Hopefully Capcom have some gameplay wizardry up their sleeves, because it didn't blow my mindhole.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Direct February Partner Predictions - What Do You Want To See?
As I keep saying:
GranBlue Fantasy Relink
Metaphor: ReFantazio
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Maybe a 3rd Party Exclusive or two.
Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase Announced For Tomorrow, 5th February 2026
Lots of entitlement in the comment section. There will probably be a Ninty 1st party direct in March.
Why don't you use the opportunity to play those games in your "backlog" you apparently bought despite not having time to play?

Can we stop re-releasing games over and over? I want something new. The original on the Wii isn't even that old, never mind the Switch sequels.

Which I hope is true.
Re: Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Nintendo Direct: Every Announcement - How Would You Rate It?
I wasn't initially sure about it, but the Direct has definitely piqued my interest.
I would prefer a physical release though.

Re: Tomodachi Life: Living The Dream Moves In On Switch 1 This April
The UK direct had a lot of English accents. I hope there will be an option for Scottish, Irish or Welsh accents.
If Worms 3D on the Gamecube could do it.....
Also LGBT+ exists whether people like it or not. Your bigotry is going the way of the dinosaurs.
Re: Rumour: A Nintendo Direct May Be Coming As Soon As Next Week
Hopefully a release date for Fire Emblem is revealed.
