Re: Talking Point: After 30 Years, Is It Time To Reset The Pokédex?

CaptainQuo

I do a bit of a Gary Oak and ditch early game Pokemon for my preferred ones, so I think the issue is how you play the game.

I rarely keep the early game bird and often in subsequent playthroughs ditch the starters and pick new Pokemon I've never used.

What I wanted to see, pretty much since Red & Blue (I got quite obsessive about it) was starter Pokemon and early game variety in wild Pokemon. For example, first three starters could be Ice, Ground, Rock. Or Fighting, Psychic & Dark.

With the Pokedex getting increasingly huge, what if they slightly randomised Pokémon placement (but not levels) so you get a level 1 Wingull and someone else gets a level 1 Murkrow in the early routes.

Re: 50 Best Nintendo 3DS Games Of All Time

CaptainQuo

@Uncle_Franklin It's complicated (she was abusive), but effectively, yes. She doesn't even play games, thinks they are a waste of time and even actively stopped me playing them.

The games they had are probably ridiculously expensive now (and would have been back then). Especially Infinite Space.

That's a lot of Shin Megami Tensei.....

I bought a 3DS a few years ago for similar reasons to buying the Switch 2 (backwards compatibility as my ex never game me my DS or PSP back). I haven't really played it much though to be honest.

Re: Resident Evil Requiem Leakers Deserve "A Thousand Deaths", Says Hideki Kamiya

CaptainQuo

The credence and credibility modern gamer "culture" if you can call it that, lends to leakers is so frustrating.

Bad for the studios, but even worse for gaming as a hobby as online clout becomes more important than anything else in society.

As if to prove my point, the usual thin-skinned basement dwellers are out in force to probably organise a short-lived boycott of this guys games. The online gamer equivalent of running away from home and only making it to the end of the street.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 5 Pokémon?

CaptainQuo

Last Gen that I played, and not really that much tbh. Most of the 'mons I know from playing a lot more Pokemon Conquest than Black & White, even though I did play Black.

I like Darmanitan, Hydreigon, Elektross, Chubchoo, Garvantula & Zebstrika. I'm a sucker for unique typings.

Hydreigon is my favourite design.

At some point, they seemed to go a bit crazy for adding a billion Legendaries and mega evolutions made it even more unbalanced. Also they didn't cover every Japanese region, which makes me sad.

Re: Poll: What's Your Favourite Gen 4 Pokémon?

CaptainQuo

Lots of cool designs (excuse the pun), such as Abomasnow, Torterra, Toxicroak, Skorupi, Stunky and Driftloon. Lots of cool new poison types.

Torterra wins it for me, though this is at the point I stopped playing as much Pokemon as I didn't get a DS and Diamond until much later when people were probably playing Gen 5 or 6.

Re: Want To Play MGS As An Octopus? Darwin's Paradox's Free Demo Can Help

CaptainQuo

@AG_Awesome I enjoyed the art style and animations - the guards do a silly arm flail sometimes to attack you, and will stomp you to death with a sickening splat. Great sound effects and some decent, if mild, visual humour so far.

If you enjoy MGS an obsessive amount you'll love this. Unfortunately given this was a demo I felt the constant MGS references a little forced and grating, with the caveat that I'm not really an MSG fan.

Gameplay seems to be mostly stealth which is fine in small doses but if this is going to be the whole game, it isn't my cup of bovril.

You have a one hit death but the game gives you a half second to camouflage yourself if you are spotted so it is a little more forgiving.

Thats all for now. I may have more but as I say, not sure it's for me.

Re: Castlevania: Belmont's Curse Unveiled For Switch, Launching In 2026

CaptainQuo

@Neo2814 I don't care about sales. SotN just isn't a very fun experience. People are allowed to have personal taste and not be a fanboy who laps up every single entry of a series.

Just because something is popular, does not automatically mean it is good.

"People also like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can't trust people, Jez."

Re: Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase February 2026: Every Announcement, Game Reveal, Trailer

CaptainQuo

Lack of Metaphor, Duskbloods & Clair Obscur was a huge disappointment.

I really dislike Bethesda and seeing Fallout 4, which was the beginning of the decline for the Fallout series, get announced like it was a big deal was like a dagger in the heart.

Levelling and perks in Fallout 4 took a nosedive, just like the terrible levelling in other Bethesda games.

I'm a bit fed up of so many different variations of FF VII. It wasn't even that good when it first came out. FF VI was superior in every way. Why don't they remake that instead?

Re: Rumour: Xenoblade Chronicles Voice Actor Might Have Leaked Evidence Of A New Release

CaptainQuo

@the_beaver I'm not angry about it at all, just find the obsession with spending huge sums of money to re-purchase games we can already access or play hugely concerning.

Like when people say "I'm not really interested in this but I will buy it to support the developer" - you don't have to spend money on luxury goods for its own sake.

I never used to hear people constantly talk about backlogs or buying games and not even opening them because they are playing others. Now it seems people just buy stuff for no reason.

Unless people are not being honest with themselves about why they really buy games.

Re: Random: Here's To Robert Burns And His Long-Standing Relationship With...Animal Crossing?

CaptainQuo

@nessisonett Doesn't make sense to call it 'Lowland' Scots as that would imply Doric is not spoken in the Lowlands, and Aberdeen is in the Northern Lowlands.

As much as Aberdeen has a lot of horrible, snobby people with money, I still can't get over the weird hatred Glaswegians have for what they call the 'Glasgow Uni' accent.

As if you can't be a 'real' Glaswegian unless you sound like an East End ned. Think of yourselves as the most 'down to Earth' folk who 'tell it like it is' yet have a talent for self-promotion and self-aggrandisement.

You would be lucky to ever hear someone who doesn't have a generic West of Scotland accent in films. Americans think we all have one accent and all sound Glaswegian.

And yes, Glasgow Scots is mostly gone. You are confusing Scottish English with Scots.

Re: Random: Here's To Robert Burns And His Long-Standing Relationship With...Animal Crossing?

CaptainQuo

Aberdonian living in Glasgow, miss being able to speak the Doric dialect of Scots as most Glaswegians look down on it. This despite losing much of their own dialect of Scots long ago due to effects of urbanisation, industrialisation, kids getting Scots language skills historically beaten out of them and the Scottish Cultural Cringe.

To this day, the greatest concentration of Scots speakers are in Grampian (i.e Aberdeenshire) amongst the fishing and farming communities with the second biggest numbers in East Ayrshire due to Burns being from Ayrshire and that part of it being even more remote and rural.
