@FX102A If you're struggling to get into Trails in the Sky I recommend starting with Cold Steel 1. Hehe, I guarantee if CS hooks you, you will want to play the others.
I always think it's a bit silly when people say the series has been going since the first 'Legend of Heroes' game. I feel it could put newcomers off even more if starting at a later point. The games before Trails in the Sky aren't part of the same universe (well, maybe they are as there is still only pretty much Western Zemuria that isn't shrouded in mystery at this point). however i've never played them so I can't really comment on whether there are references to them. I'm sure there probably are but i'd say they would just be fun easter eggs rather than anything related to the plot or world... Anyone here played the earlier LoH games? I would be keen to hear your thoughts on that. Cheers
@mario-64 yea, the original version NISA put out was utterly shameful and lazy, but to their credit they at least put in the effort to fix it. I first played Ys VIII on the Switch after everything was fixed and the translation was great. It was only after looking at vids on youtube of the first version where I could see what all the outrage was about. Saying that, they didn't just re-write text, they re-recorded lots of dialogue aswell, which I feel counts for something. And because of all that, I highly doubt they will make the same mistake again with Ys IX.
There was heaps of outrage (same reason, Ys VIII translation) when it was announced that NISA was taking over from Xseed for Cold Steel 3 until people actually played it. Turned out it was completely fine (no patch needed). In the end, NISA have the company size to localise the games fairly quickly (unlike Xseed) and as long as they keep up the quality they've been doing recently, it's all good with me. It's better than 'certain' games never being localised at all.
Awesome!!! Now if Xseed can support a Switch release for the rest of the Trails series, that would be amazing. The really good thing is I guess Falcom are really getting into supporting Nintendo now, which didn't really seem likely not that long ago. Awesome news! I have a fair bit of hope that a Trails and Ys collection will make it to Switch at some point.. fingers crossed. YS IX, day one for me!
So awesome! Easily my favourite arcade game of that time. Lots of money spent renting it on either SNES or Megadrive (can't remember which one, probably both, countless times). 4-player arcade version too! Stoked! I'll be hitting up that e-shop asap it seems!
I remember really wanting to play this game way back in the day but never got around to it. Looks pretty good. I've always been a fan of cel-shaders, particularly back then when games that went for a realistic look never really looked very realistic. I always thought cel-shaders were great because they could look like proper animations and were kinda timeless in that sense.
Although, with current gen graphics the appeal is less than it used to be (realistic graphics is getting pretty decent to say the least!). Haha, I don't own a powerful pc or gaming console capable of that stuff these days and I pretty much avoid looking at vids of current gen for the most part. So this looks pretty good to me, might have to pick it up.
I bought this game last night (impulse buy). Haha, I can say that if I was racing for real, my life would have been claimed more than that historic 150 lives, per track! It's a tough customer that's for sure. I haven't managed anything but last place and being lapped by the competition yet. However, I can tell that this game will be an absolute thrill to play once you get good at it, so i'm going to keep at it. The audio should get a special mention here, the wind and the sound of the trees zooming by as you absolutely tear down those roads at insane speeds really puts you in the experience. Terrifying and exciting to say the least.
haha. I had to do a quick search to see if Rygar was the game I thought it was. And yep, I loved that game way way back in the NES days. That one will be a great nostalgia hit that's for sure. Faxanadu would be another great addition if it's not already there (haven't looked at the NES games for a while). They were both great games for that time... good times.
@Savino great taste there! Life of Brian is my all time favourite comedy and one of my favourite movies of all time. Lol, a Life of Brian brawler would actually work really well now I think of it.
I feel the review was a little harsh. The game is purposefully designed to be near impossible to control. Also with 4 player co op. Yea, the game is pretty rubbish if you play single player and try to do the deliveries, though that's not what it was designed for.
However, what should have been mentioned is how the devs advertised this game to have 4 player splitscreen for all platforms for almost a year. And only (from what I saw, so I may be wrong) replying to comments after the release, saying the Switch version is only 2 player local.
I was following the game from about last July because I like silly, stupid party games and saw nothing about that. Worst of all, the eshop features the trailer and even a screenshot with 4 player splitscreen. I thought that was pretty shady false advertising. The game is really lacking without that feature, which is why i'm pointing it out.
If the devs do patch in proper local multiplayer, i'm all for it. Until then, if you want Chakra's recommendation, get Heave Ho instead. Half the price, twice the laughs. (though this game could be a contender if they patch it)
I used it for about an hour with Breath of the Wild on day one and haven't got around to it again (most of that time was spent shield surfing, which was pretty cool really!) That kinda sounds like I don't think much of it, but I actually quite like it. Cool idea, and was the only VR experience i've had, due to it being affordable. I think Animal Crossing would really work well with it. Anyone else agree?
@Emob ah, c'mon. SwitchForce is good entertainment. He's bound to pull out another "chicken and the egg" analogy soon. Always gives me a chuckle... Let him run free.
@ShadJV Cool, cheers for the heads up. Yea, i'm no expert on strategy or tactics games, I kinda thought they were the same thing. When I get a bit of cash to spare I will pick the game up. Ahh! I just really want that Netflix series to continue, it was better than i'd hoped for.
I might be totally wrong, but i'm sure I remember Nintendo saying that they had no plans to release another switch model about this time last year. But then they released the Switch Lite later in the year. Can anyone else remember anything like that? If that was correct, then a Switch Pro this year might still be on the cards, Nintendo may just be trying to play down the rumours and leaks.
@CairiB Nice work on getting new fans! But yea, they haven't renewed it yet, which makes me think they might be looking how well this game sells. I know I will be pretty devo'd if they don't keep the show going, it's my favourite franchise.
@Mando44646 yep, it hasn't been cancelled, there just hasn't been any word about a next season in the works.
I really want to get this game solely for the purpose of supporting the show. Big, life-long Dark Crystal fan and absolutely loved the new series. However, i'm just not interested in a tactics game. Wargroove is all I need for that genre.
If I miraculously fall into a pit of money, i'll pick it up for sure but even at it's fairly reasonable price I just can't get excited about it. I hope it does well though, because the series still hasn't been renewed for a second season yet, which is starting to concern me.
I am rediculously keen for a new Wave Race! I really hope it gets a new title. Also, Mario Golf was great fun multiplayer, though I didn't see that on the list. Eh... Wave Race is all I need. Wave Race!
Since this was apparently such a good port (I haven't bought it yet) i'm curious to know what they have been cooking up. Going by what's said in the article, it sounds to me like it could be something similar to how Grid Autosport has different option modes for performance and graphics. But, I got no idea, I'm just not sure what else it could be, considering it's the full experience already.
I've become quite keen to pick up Switcher after watching the show. I have it on Steam and didn't feel like I needed another playthrough yet, but...
I'm not the kind of person that cares at all about cute characters. And i've never been one to buy merch of any kind. But lol... Even I'm hopeless against that damn Baby Yoda, enough so that the thought of buying one for my desk keeps flashing into my head. Yeesh.. I'm making myself cringe with this behaviour. Curse you Disney!
Funny how i've never really intended to buy any QubicGames titles before, but somehow managed to accrue about 8 of them over time. Some of them are suprisingly decent games, especially for the price. I wouldn't mind grabbing Blazing Beaks for free, which looks to me like a "not as good" Enter the Gungeon but with 4- player co op. Sounds pretty alright.
Can't remember what games we actually owned as we mainly rented them. But, I believe we may have owned Mario World, Mario All-Stars, Mario Kart, all three Super Star Wars games, Killer Instinct, Secret of Mana, Link to the Past, Mortal Kombat 2 and 3, Donkey Kong Country, Super Metroid and maybe Earthworm Jim (could have been Sega MD that one). Some of them may have just been rented a lot, but they were the titles I remembered playing often.
I never read that government protest bit as the reviewer trying to push a view. I thought the reviewer was just poking a bit of fun at the whole political climate (the whole review was humourous in tone). I thought it was funny.
Never played an Assassin's Creed game before but was looking at picking this up as this years summer/christmas adventure. Awesome to see it's a great port, it's a definite yes then! yaarrr... also wanna pick up Alien: Isolation
@Nomad like mauhlin12 said, the music in Trails is less guitar driven than Ys and more orchestral, but does have its moments. These 3 should give you a good example of what to expect for Cold Steel series. I'd say for me, old Ys tracks are the best. Trails in Sky beats Cold Steel but both were better OSTs than Ys 8, I think anyway. Hope that helps.
@JR150 I haven't been able to play 3 yet so i'm not sure about this but... The series has a pretty massive overall plot, though each arc does have their own story and a set of new protagonists which learn from scratch (kinda) about the overall plot. So pretty much you can jump into any one of the first entries of each arc and you won't be lost at all (you sort of learn with them), just some things might not mean as much to you (like characters you haven't seen for a long, long time popping up).
This one is a weird one though because the main protagonist is the same from Cold Steel 1 and 2 but the others aren't. So, if 3 and 4 have their own new story enough to be considered its own arc, I would say there is nothing really wrong with jumping in here then. From what i've gathered though, 3 and 4 is the chapter that concludes all the three arcs. Hope this helps, tried to explain it best I can, someone whose played 3 might be able to elaborate on this.
All year, since it was announced for PS4 the only video game news I really cared about was "Cold Steel 3 for PC!" Never considered that it would come to Switch. I am rediculously, goddamn, super freakin stoked about this! Bring the whole series!
Never played a Luigi's Mansion game before and picked this up yesterday. All I can say is, this is one of the best games i've ever played, absolutely love it!
Damn, Asphalt Legends is a rediculous good time.. Was planning to get back into Grid this weekend but having too much fun with this one at the moment. But don't worry Grid Autosport, yer still number 1 by a longshot!
Just picked up Link's Awakening yesterday... loving it so far but I keep avoid playing it because I don't want to finish it too quick lol.
Also got Bastion for about $1 so have been messing around with that one... Game is damn cool, what a little gem of a title.
Finally, been messing around with The Terminator in Mk11. Oh yea, and I had to abandon Grid Autosport in the last couple of weeks because of exams.. will be getting back into that for sure.
I ended getting an Anker Nebula Capsule for tabletop sessions because everyone I knew complained and refuse to play on the Switch's tiny screen (also for travel in general). Got quite the setup now and it didn't cost too much (cheaper and better than a portable screen), here is what I got in case anyone is interested in doing the same.
Anker Nebula Capsule
Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 3 (Can power the dock for around 10 hours, I think maybe more. And yep it's safe)
Anker powercore + 26k (Charges the projector for about 20 hours)
Great little setup that dosen't even take up half a compartment of a backpack. Also I might add that I went with this setup because I refused to use a third party dock and risk bricking the switch. It's 100% safe. Also in case anyone is wondering about the quality of the projector, it only does 720p but looks fine. They recommend a maximum of 100" but I project it on my entire wall that would be way over that and that's what I watch all my movies etc. on soo. It's no good in daylight but fine in a dim room and dosen't need complete darkness. It has its own speaker too.
I might add that the Anker powercore+ that I have does not have power delivery and won't charge the Switch while playing (keeps it around even) so I don't recommend it. Get another Xiaomi instead, they are insanely cheap and do it all.
Anyways, hope this helps out anyone looking for a portable big screen setup. Works great.
Been having a blast with Grid. This is an A+ port. I love the extra effort to put in the different graphics modes, control styles etc. Although i've never felt the framerate noticably drop in graphics mode (pretty damn stable) it's nice to have the 60fps option. Everything is just so polished, even little things like the menu music never getting annoying (lol V-Rally 4). Big kudos to Feral, they brought the quality. Just now got to wait for the multiplayer.. haha also got to mention the price, almost half the price of the competition and totally blows them out of the water... Finally a real racer!
I must be one of the only people that ... absolutely cannot stand overcooked. Maybe I need to give it another chance... This game looks great though.
Another one to check out that is coming to switch that is kinda similar to this is Totally Reliable Delivery Service (kinda like an openworld Gang Beasts-ish type game). Worth checking out, looks like fun. This game looks a gazillion times more polished though. Will most likely pick this up.
@neogyo Same here. I wasn't expecting much from solo mode but it is really damn fun. And still pretty hilarious. Lol, coop is unbeatable though. It's a class act.
This game is genius. It's absolutely the new contender for best party game I have on Switch and I have way too many lol. If party games are your thing it is an absolute no brainer, especially with the very reasonable price tag. Love it! Would be a solid 10 (party game-wise) from me if they added some competative modes (racing and battling each other or king of the hill type mode, would be epic), and a level editor. I believe I saw one of the devs reply to a post on Steam about loving the idea of a level editor so who knows what they might add later on. The beauty of this game is that there could be so many crazy ideas for game modes you could add into it and they would just work. (The minigames give you little taste of that). Overall, the game is awesome, great job!
@Kriven Ash Williams was teased in the Shang Tsung trailer. He is definitely coming at some point, his file and dialogue were datamined with the others. I think they pushed him back (to Kombat Pack 2) and he got replaced by Joker (hype for the Joker movie I guess). lol Ash was the main reason I bought the Kombat Pack, ah well haha. Can't wait to see Ash and Arnie pre-fight banter, been hangin out for that since the leaks.
I've got a heap of party games, unfortunately my crew is hard to get to play the Switch. They didn't mind Jackbox one night but pretty much turned their noses up at it after. The one and only game I can ever really get them to play willingly is... Flat Heroes... so I guess i'm going to have to recommend that one.
(I might add that they didn't mind Towerfall. And Nidhogg 2 kept them entertained for about 40 mins. Saying that, I doubt they would want to play them again unless I forced them to lol, which I don't do).
@link3710 I've been thinking the same thing for ages now. Each year to mark the anniversary of the online service they release another system. Of course that's just me speculating (and hoping). But the way I see it, if they have a 6 year plan for the Switch it would make sense that they would stagger the releases rather than give us everything from the get-go. Nothing to look forward to and keep interest that way.
Fantastic! I've been eyeing this one off for a while. And dropping on my b'day, awesome. Now drop Grid Autosport on the 29th aswell please ... oh, and with Dark Crystal Age of Resistance kickin' off on Netflix the next day. Pretty sweet indeed!
@Xansies Yea, hopefully the series is a faithful adaptation of the books like they are claiming and they can clear up my confusion. I will definitely go back and play the games again if so. Yep, I also had issues with most of the characters in the games, where the only character I felt had some depth and I could really understand her motivations was Triss... (I had more to say on the characters but ended up cutting it in case I said something that could be considered spoilers). Wouldn't want to ruin the experience for others. Anyways, overall I really enjoyed the games but did feel that they left me scratching my head thinking "and what was all that about?"

All year, since it was announced for PS4 the only video game news I really cared about was "Cold Steel 3 for PC!" Never considered that it would come to Switch. I am rediculously, goddamn, super freakin stoked about this! Bring the whole series!
Re: Video: Digital Foundry Likens Luigi's Mansion 3 To A "Playable CG Movie"
Never played a Luigi's Mansion game before and picked this up yesterday. All I can say is, this is one of the best games i've ever played, absolutely love it!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 12th)
Damn, Asphalt Legends is a rediculous good time.. Was planning to get back into Grid this weekend but having too much fun with this one at the moment. But don't worry Grid Autosport, yer still number 1 by a longshot!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 12th)
Re: Super Street: Racer Speeds Onto Switch This November
Pretty damn happy with Grid, gonna be a pass for me.
Re: Video: Introducing The C-Force C-Air, An External 4K Monitor For Your Nintendo Switch
Re: Review: GRID Autosport - Finally, Switch Gets The Serious Racing Game It Deserves
Re: Review: Gun Gun Pixies - A Pitiful Perv-Fest That Also Fails As A Video Game
@Joker13z East = Asia, then there is the middle-East... So what is Western?
Re: Hands On: The Most Fun Game At PAX Was About Helping People Move Out
@SMGstudio Haha two gazilion, won't argue with that. Best of luck with the release guys. Looks great, will be picking it up for sure when it drops..
Also, always pretty stoked to support more Aussie developers and Death Squared was a great title, nice work
Re: Hands On: The Most Fun Game At PAX Was About Helping People Move Out
I must be one of the only people that ... absolutely cannot stand overcooked.
Re: SNES Games Are Officially Headed To Switch Online, And 20 Titles Release Tomorrow
Haha, does anyone remember this bit of news back in Jan?
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2019/01/rumour_dataminer_uncovers_snes_games_for_nintendo_switch_online_service
turns out it was pretty on point.
Maybe a bit of a spoiler for what's coming next.
Re: Castle Crashers Remastered Brings Cartoon Beat 'Em Up Action To The Switch Next Month
@Ryu_Niiyama My money tree is starting to fruit. Want me to let you know when I have some money tree seeds available?
Re: Review: Heave Ho - Hauls Itself Up With The Best Couch Co-op Games On Switch
@neogyo Same here. I wasn't expecting much from solo mode but it is really damn fun. And still pretty hilarious. Lol, coop is unbeatable though. It's a class act.
Re: Review: Heave Ho - Hauls Itself Up With The Best Couch Co-op Games On Switch
Re: Warner Bros. Reveals Full DLC Roster For Mortal Kombat 11's Kombat Pack
Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Party Games
I've got a heap of party games, unfortunately my crew is hard to get to play the Switch. They didn't mind Jackbox one night but pretty much turned their noses up at it after. The one and only game I can ever really get them to play willingly is... Flat Heroes... so I guess i'm going to have to recommend that one.
(I might add that they didn't mind Towerfall. And Nidhogg 2 kept them entertained for about 40 mins. Saying that, I doubt they would want to play them again unless I forced them to lol, which I don't do).
Re: Two More NES Games Join The Nintendo Switch Online Service In August
@link3710 I've been thinking the same thing for ages now. Each year to mark the anniversary of the online service they release another system. Of course that's just me speculating (and hoping). But the way I see it, if they have a 6 year plan for the Switch it would make sense that they would stagger the releases rather than give us everything from the get-go. Nothing to look forward to and keep interest that way.
Re: Random: Zelda Fan Smashes PS4 In Rage As Breath Of The Wild 'Clone' Genshin Impact Is Revealed
Looks sweet, totally dig it. Therefore as a proper Ninty fan if I must ask "when is it coming to Switch?"
Re: Physics-Based Multiplayer Adventure Heave Ho Swings Onto Switch This Month
Fantastic! I've been eyeing this one off for a while. And dropping on my b'day, awesome. Now drop Grid Autosport on the 29th aswell please ... oh, and with Dark Crystal Age of Resistance kickin' off on Netflix the next day. Pretty sweet indeed!
Re: Don't Expect Netflix's Witcher Show To Copy The Video Games
@Xansies Yea, hopefully the series is a faithful adaptation of the books like they are claiming and they can clear up my confusion. I will definitely go back and play the games again if so. Yep, I also had issues with most of the characters in the games, where the only character I felt had some depth and I could really understand her motivations was Triss... (I had more to say on the characters but ended up cutting it in case I said something that could be considered spoilers). Wouldn't want to ruin the experience for others. Anyways, overall I really enjoyed the games but did feel that they left me scratching my head thinking "and what was all that about?"
