Next week, retro-inspired beat 'em up Jay and Silent Bob: Mall Brawl is getting its very own digital release on the Nintendo Switch eShop.
The game, which is an 8-bit companion brawler to Jay and Silent Bob: Chronic Blunt Punch, actually started out as a free digital bonus for backers of that game's crowdfunding campaign. It received a Limited Run physical edition for the NES last year but will soon be available to download on Switch. Here's the official eShop description:
Play as Jay and Silent Bob in a retro 8-bit sidescrolling brawler. Go solo or team up with a friend. Pummel enemies with hard-hitting combos, dash attacks, and elbow drops as well as a random assortment of weapons as you battle your way out of the mall and back to the Quickstop.
You can see it running on Switch in the video below; the clip shows the development team's first console test for the software.
It's launching on Switch on 7th May and will be available for $14.99. Think you might pick this one up? Let us know in the comments.

snoochie boochies! Might have to get this one! If it's good that is.
Still need to see the new movie. Loved Jay and silent bob strike back!
I might take a punt on this but I would have preferred Chronic Blunt Punch.
Don't see the new movie, it will take away everything you may once have liked about the old films and make you feel sad (and old!)
I’d have been more excited 20 years ago perhaps. Seems a little expensive but still a cool release.
Where my NES version at???
@mr_benn
You mean like the new star wars movies?
@mr_benn That's a strange take on the new movie since it's largely fan service from the franchise.
I will! But not for 14.99. Sales will come
I’d totally play it... for about £10 less.
7.99 would be a sensible launch price.
@Zeldafan79
Kevin Smith described the movie's nature as a jab on Hollywood reboots with unmistakable wording: "it's literally the same #u@king movie".
Zero interest in these characters and zero interest in this game.
I hope it turns out good anyway, so that people who care for the characters can get an enjoyable experience out of it.
I'm a Smith fan but I wish this was done in a 16 bit style. The Final Fight/SoR era has aged much better than the Double Dragon/River City era.
I watched Jay and Bob Reboot on Amazon and it was one of the worst "comedies" I've ever seen! It was so bad, I heard Kevin Smith did another movie called "Yoga Hosers" which was possibly worse, so I watched that too, and couldn't believe that anyone at any time believed this man had talent.
This reminds of the Scott Pilgrim game. Too bad due to licensing issues, it will never see the light of day again.
Gonna wait for a sale... but is chronic bluntnpunch also coming to switch then?
15??!! I love Jay & Silent Bob as much as the next man, but I’ll hang on a month or two until it’s at least 50% off that price!
@Supahfly
Yeah... Scott Pilgrim was awesome. It's sad that stupid licensing issues are preventing some games to be redistributed again, or ported to newer consoles. I'd replay that one for sure if it was made available on the XB1...
That being said, paying $20 for this Jay and Silent Bob game seems much overpriced for what it is. I get the gameplay trying to mimick classics like River City Ransom and Double Dragon 2 (that artwork, lol!) but then again, just that doesn't make it worth my $20 in itself. Maybe when on sale at some point, at LEAST %50 off.
I’d rather it be 5-10 but I definitely want this. Mall Rats was my favorite K Smith movie ever
It's honestly sad that there's anyone who hasn't outgrown Jay and Silent Bob in 2020.
@Savino great taste there! Life of Brian is my all time favourite comedy and one of my favourite movies of all time. Lol, a Life of Brian brawler would actually work really well now I think of it.
Hell of a time to release a brawler.
Loved the characters up until the reboot new movie gag.
To me this looks like a Double Dragon Rip off and I'm sorry, this is just a hard pass.
@Zeldafan79 Came to Say or See “Snootches”, glad I saw!
Def getting this, even though I’m not a brawler fan anymore (that burnt out in my teens). But I love all things Jay and Silent Bob, is this should hilariously fun!
Bought the LR edition. Hope it will be worth it.
"Mall Maul"
(missed opportunity)
I remember when games like this sold for around $50, and now people are complaining that $15 is too much.
@DrDaisy Well it's not the late 80's anymore.
@JayJ I know. 😢
I have been looking forward to Chronic Blunt Punch, but this will fill the void in the meantime. I've been a fan of Kevin Smith since the early 2000's and I have listened to his podcasts for nearly 10 years straight. Really happy to see it seems to take place in the Mallrats continuity, Truth or Date gives that away. I'll be buying this day one.
They say "Partly like its 1995" but make it 8-bit... Come on, 1995 is minimum 16 Bit and with the release of the Palystation already 32-Bit... Shame they chose 8bit... I want a nice brawler like Turtles in Time or Battletoads in Battlemaniac.
Jay and Silent Bob films are good, but not putting myself through another of these clunky looking beat 'em ups. Maybe Streets of Rage 4 but not this.
As a big fan, I still wouldn't pay more than five bucks for this
@Emceehamster
Yeah, It doesn't seem a game worth more than that...of course It could sell like bread of they made a physical version of It!
Game looks good. Hope people can find it in all those kunikun releases and rereleases the past few months.
