Re: Rumour: Zelda Live-Action Movie Eyes "Popular" Princess Pick

BrandyBongos

@Hydra_Spectre Wow! I didn't know that. I've only really started hearing her name because of the Zelda rumours, so I'm not familiar with her work. If anything I'd say being a good voice actor is an extra qualification for this film. I know it's going to be live action, but there's likely to also be a heavy CGI component, which means actors reacting to things they can't see. Good voice actors are used to that.

@ChakraStomps I mean, Chris Pratt has also played some jerks. Charlie Day almost brought about a Kaiju apocalypse. Eddie Murphy did loads of kids movies and loads of movies definitely not for kids! I don't think this is as big a deal as you're making out.

Hunter definitely has the look in those pics, but I've not seen any of her work. The idea some have expressed here - that ONLY a fan of the series should be cast - is not one I can agree with. Plenty of actors playing beloved characters aren't fans of the series they're in- Matt Smith was a terrific Doctor Who, for instance, despite having little interest in the series before his casting. I'm sure any actors cast in the Zelda movie will receive a crash course in the series endorsed by Nintendo.

And a cameo from Robin Williams' daughter Zelda would be lovely.

Re: Here's Why Switch 2 Joy-Con And Pro Controllers Don't Have Analogue Triggers

BrandyBongos

My main thought about this is that it makes even more of a nonsense that Gamecube Nintendo Classics need to be exclusive to Switch 2. If the Switch 2 doesn't have analog triggers, there's no need for the Switch 1 not to have GCN games, beyond pushing the new Switch.

Several titles at launch or confirmed to be coming later use the analogue triggers- Wind Waker, F-Zero X, Luigi's Mansion, Mario Sunshine...

I'm sure there will be a workaround for the Pro Controller, but will the GCN controller for Switch 2 have them, I wonder.

Re: '90s Anime 'Samurai Pizza Cats' Is Getting The Action RPG Treatment Next Year

BrandyBongos

As I love this show and the Famicom game (it plays like a light Metroidvania with Ducktales-esque mechanics and character hotswapping), I'm just going to jump in here with a trivia tidbit about a common misconception.

Many people say that the US dubbing company didn't get scripts from Tatsunoko, as the show wasn't popular enough in Japan to warrant keeping the paperwork. They did get scripts. The problem was that the script were jam packed full of cultural references and jokes that wouldn't land with Western audiences. So, they used the basic plot (i.e. sushi maker is brainwashed to pilot a giant mech that makes sushi out of people) and wrote new scripts to match the vision, keeping the spirit of the show with a bunch of cultural references and jokes that WOULD play well for Western audiences.

As such, over the years when the writers have said they didn't have scripts, it's more accurate to say they didn't have usable scripts. The end result is the same, of course!

Re: Monkey Island's Creator Seemingly Shuts Down Blog After Personal Attacks

The entitlement on display is breathtaking. I'm a Doctor Who and Star Trek fan, so I've seen this sort of vitriol for years in online spaces.

Two turning points for this kind of behaviour gaining credence as an effective method of change were fans getting the design of Movie Sonic changed (ultimately a good decision) and the hobbling of The Rise of Skywalker to accede with rabid fan demands (which made a poor movie for everyone involved).

If these fans knew what was best, they would be making their own films, games, and TV series. But they know they will never create anything, and fear that things will outgrow them, so they stay in their pit of despair and try to drag everyone else into it.

Re: Two Brand New Doctor Who Games Have Been Revealed For Switch

BrandyBongos

So happy to see these coming to Switch. Didn't want to shell out for a VR headset for Edge of Time, so I'm glad I waited. Been a Who fan since the 80s and played most of the video games. As the show is rarely about shooting monsters in the face, it's been hard to make a good Doctor Who game, and arguably the best currently is the Lego Dimensions level pack!

But to me, even games like Destiny of the Doctors or The Eternity Clock had value because they tried to make a Doctor Who game, not a game with Doctor Who things in it (Dalek Attack, Return to Earth). The BBC Adventure Games were excellent back in 2010 (especially as they were free). These look like they'll be a lot of fun. Glad to see Osgood back, always happy for more Jodie Whittaker content and, while I do question the need to plaster the 10th Doctor over EVERYTHING, I'm glad to see David himself back to do the voice.

If we get a full series next year as well, I will be one happy fanboy.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #52 - Mega Man 2

BrandyBongos

Australia also got the European box art. I saw the cartridge in a second hand shop for $20 around 1990 and persuaded my Mum to buy it, sparking a 30 year love for the Blue Bomber.

Still voted for the Japanese cover, but the European cover is a close second.

Re: Random: AI: The Somnium Files Got Review-Bombed By Someone Obsessed With One Of Its Characters

BrandyBongos

If you want to show how busted Metacritic is, don't do it to new game from a lesser known IP during its release window- i.e. the most crucial period for sales.

Do it to something like Super Mario World or Sonic CD- something old and very loved which will make the abuse of the system obvious.

Doing it to a smaller IP is mean spirited garbage, and it's VERY hard to believe the review bomber's noble motives when the other motive revolves around "I didn't like what happened to this character."

Re: Random: Competitive Melee Player Walks Off Stage In Match-Up Against Jigglypuff

BrandyBongos

I’m a bit surprised there aren’t mechanics in the rules to deal with this. I wrestle, and if a competitor isn’t engaging in the fight or actively running away, their opponent gains points. While I know there’s no way to apply this in game, players could lose a stock for every ten seconds without engagement, as decided by the ref. I assume there’s some sort of referee for these matches?

Re: Video: Square Enix Discusses The Response To Project Octopath Traveler

BrandyBongos

I'm so glad that they've added a skip feature for cutscenes/events. I'm not very experienced with turn based JRPGs, and died a lot on the Knight's boss battle in the cave. When loading the save, I had to sit through the two minute argument again and again before getting to the fight! I've no problem with getting my butt handed to me until I figure out the best tactics, but I only need to see the cutscene once!
