Re: Bastion - A Captivating Indie Gem That Hasn't Been Dulled By The Passage Of Time

BigKing

Lol, NintendoLife is at it again.

Bastion is a 7 year old indie title that you could buy together with 9 other titles(including Fez and Limbo) in a Humble Bundle multiple times for less than $5(that's for all the games together).

It was also available as a browser game in the Chrome web store. And it's pretty boring.

But now it's a $15 Nindie title and gets a 9/10 here as usual. Because why not?

They don't even seem to care anymore:

'As for the gameplay, Bastion could be best described as an isometric action RPG, and though the gameplay isn’t nearly as strong as the narrative, it certainly manages to entertain.'

9/10 near perfect

Re: Projectile-Fighting Game Lethal League Blaze Hits The Switch In 2019

Looks good, but that's because it looks like Jet Set Radio. Not too sure how I feel about blatently copying the whole artstyle of another game. Even the skating animation is a carbon copy.

When it's the other way around (bigger studios copying indie games) most people are not amused.

Hideki Naganuma is a boss though.

@MarioFan02 BUT DOOM & WOLFENSTEIN!!11

Switch fans in denial once again grasping on to a false narrative.

The whole thing with those games is that the engine was already there and enabled the ports. It was basically changing the config (lower res, textures etc) and changing some parts of the levels that ran slowly. That is something totally different than writing a new engine from scratch.

Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4 Is A Grand (Upper) Revival

@onex I was talking about your post, Einstein.

'You know, there is the option of not buying it if you don't want to support it, and letting those excited for the prospects of a return to a beloved franchise - new team or not - enjoy their communal hype.

But no, people like you would rather spew your cynicism. Rain on others' parades.'

Ohhh, I rain on your parade boohoo. No rain please, only sunshine.

The new team is horrible. Both teams. And have nothing to do the original games. The whole point is that a beloved franchise should be handled with care. That isn't the case here. Streets of Rage 4 will never live up to the previous games.

Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4 Is A Grand (Upper) Revival

BigKing

@onex The original Wonderboy wasn't even good and why would I want a Streets of Rage game to look anything like a Wonderboy game?

Gamers like you are the reason why they would just slap a random classic IP on a random indie game and call it a sequel. It's embarrassing.

Re: Hands On: Streets Of Rage 4 Is A Grand (Upper) Revival

BigKing

@onex It's terrible. I'd rather have a reboot, something like a stylized 3D game with bad ass music. Something like SEGA's Yakuza when it comes to fighting, but with a more linear path and no breaks between the ass kicking.

I like how they created Street Fighter 4 based on the 2D games. Take an old game and make it modern again. Take it to the next level. This looks and sounds worse than the genesis games, not worthy of the 4 in the title

Re: Hands-On: Streets Of Rage 4 Is A Grand (Upper) Revival

BigKing

'We truly believe it could not be in better hands.'

Yeah there is absolutely no way the sequel to a Japanese SEGA classic could be in better hands than that of a French indie developer who made such classics like this:

'That praise is key here as well, as Streets of Rage 4 utilises the same techniques and a very similar art style. '

That's part of the problem. Streets of Rage 4 looks like the Wonderboy remake.

Which studio could've made a better sequel? Definitely not Platinum Games. Definitely not the Yakuza studio. Guard Crush Games it is.

Re: Suda51 Wants To Develop No More Heroes 3, But Is Focused On Travis Strikes Again For Now

BigKing

It's a totally different game. It's an indie type game with a known IP slapped onto it.

'Well again, it’s not a direct sequel to No More Heroes 2, though they are directly related and take place in the same universe. Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes takes place seven years after the events of No More Heroes 2. As you’ve probably noticed it’s ‘Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes’, so ‘No More Heroes’ is more a subtitle, there’s not a number on it. This isn’t a direct sequel and it’s not No More Heroes 3, but it does address some of the things that happened in No More Heroes 1 and 2. While it is sort of a continuation of that stuff, it is not a direct sequel partially because No More Heroes is about one assassin against other assassins, and this isn’t like that. This isn’t exactly a spin-off, or something like that, and while it’s not a direct sequel it is something of a stepping stone on the road to No More Heroes 3. So the way I’d like people to think of this game is like the beginning of a new battle for Travis, a new series within the series.'

Plus, who played the games for the story? It was basically just rising to the top, slashing through levels and killing over the top bosses.

Re: Suda51 Wants To Develop No More Heroes 3, But Is Focused On Travis Strikes Again For Now

BigKing

@Varkster Your statement didn't make any sense. If you don't support Mario vs Sonic at the Olympics the likelihood of a Mario Odyssey 2 decreases exponentially! I don't fall for that stuff. I buy the games that are worth paying for and because they made want I want.

Travis Strikes Again was easily the most disappointing Switch reveal for me. No More Heroes is back... oh wait, it's some basic low budget top down slasher that is nothing like the other games.

Re: Wii U Receives First System Firmware Update Since 2017

BigKing

@Razer Just pick one up and disable updates. There aren't any new releases any way that require the latest firmware.

I didn't buy a boxed one though, picked up a second hand for about €150 with a bunch of games. There is a ton of homebew. CPS2 arcade emulators, Mario Kart Arcade runs and so on.

Re: Wii U Receives First System Firmware Update Since 2017

The hacks are what makes the Wii U one of Nintendo's best consoles and worth picking up in 2018.
Play NES, SNES, Gameboy Classic/Color/Advance, DS, N64, Wii, Gamecube and Wii U games all on one console with HDMI output and on the tablet. Even other consoles. Just hook up an HDD and you're set.

Leave it to Nintendo to patch a dead console. Unlike Sega which basically handed the homebrew community some tools after the Dreamcast died.
