@jolteon23 Same here super curious too as Pokemon seems to have a more casual fanbase so not sure many people will get a super expensive console for a game available on the previous one too. I reckon the split will be 60/40 or 70/30 Switch 1 to 2.
That's why I feel like Gen 10 Nintendo have to release a budget Switch 2 lite or something like they did for Switch 1 before Gen 8 released (IIRC 2DS before Gen 6 too)
I remember when I gave up on video games during around 2012/2013 but still wanted to play Pokemon but if it weren't for the 2DS not sure I would have jumped in.
@nessisonett Why? Sonic Trilogy was great, Mario movie was for the most part pretty good, Detective Pikachu was good. Sure Minecraft movie was forgettable but its inoffensive. Zelda has the potential to be decent to good too (although I would have preferred that being animated)
@JohnnyMind Only concern is the website says you can only have 1 of each mega stone so I hope it isn't a case of them being key items that are attachable like PLA plates...
@RudyC3 Yup, to this day I have never paid full price for a physical 1st party Nintendo game, it seems the cost of wholesale price of games are low enough that retailers can lower asking prices and still make profit.
@JohnnyMind Ah same here I had credits with my usual retailer so got the Switch 1 version at a great price however I plan to buy the game digitally aswell on my JPN account for NS2 so that way I can trade starters between myself then I'll probably trade the game or gift to a friend.
I just hope mega stones can be traded too assuming we get the starter ones straight away
@ShadLink It's hilarious so much double standards when it comes to Pokemon like new Digimon has season pass DLC yet there was so much furore when they announced PLZA will have DLC next year.
BOTW/TOTK get praised to high heaven yet those games are the very definition of barren. You just have the same cut and paste animal or enemies but the majority time you are traversing the land it is just you in an empty field...
It's just internet brownie points to hate on GF & Pokemon, the fact SV became the 2nd best selling games tells you what the majority of people thought! Haters are always louder as they say.
@SillyG "half of the content missing" this nonsense again DLC is not cut content, according to Serebii all Pokemon DLC has had different directors PLZA will more than likely be the same. It's developed separately hence why it is additional content not cut content. SwSh and SV had complete stories pre DLC it is not like they left a cluiffhanger forcing people to buy the DLC. Part 2 anyway PLZA will be the same.
Also you not wanting to own digital DLC is your prerogative but in this day and age there is no true physical releases, with updates and patches most game discs and carts are outdated
@JohnnyMind I can see two sides, it can be annoying to see discussions derailed by GKC but on the otherhand GKC are naturally disappointing.
I can't help but feel that GKC were meant for small publishers as way to get physical presence and is being abused by bigger publishers. In theory carts should become cheaper so hopefully we start seeing less GKC as we get a few years into Switch 2 life span.
@Pillowpants Fair point maybe people have didn't own a Switch 1 haven't realised it's cheaper buying a used copy of SW1 version and then upgrade. Or maybe people want the full Switch 2 Edition on the cart.
Be interesting to see what the % of Switch 1 and 2 sales will be for Pokemon & Metroid. Also I wonder if Nintendo would push a budget Switch 2 (lite or something) before Gen 10 like they did before Gen 8, given how expensive the Switch 2 is I feel like they may need to.
Also surprised many people are buying Switch 2 Editions of Zelda, isn't it much cheaper buying a used copy and then upgrade pack?
Frustrating I traded a bunch of old games over the summer for 3D All Stars but much like the reviewer said for them I have only played Sunshine on that thus far so may just keep that for that & 64 instead of trading it back in.
I think the advantage for Nintendo prices is games don't depreciate on Switch, like DK TF used is still worth way more than the Wii U version so one can always buy a first party Nintendo game knowing it's more or less still gonna worth the same in a few years.
@NintendoKnight NL has had an agenda against the game ever since it was confirmed to be in the city, there was an article moaning about the game when it got revealed on Pokemon day. I wouldn't be surprised if they give it a negative review.
It's also weird that all the comments are full of negativity when most of the previews have been nothing but positive, seems no one read or watched previews at all and made their minds up about the game already
Thankfully SV being the 2nd best selling game means the internet is nothing but an echoe chamber!
@FancyJehuty Gen 1 was a buggy mess and literally had game breaking elements, fast Mons always crit, Hyper Beam never recharged if it Ko'd a Mon etc, if it wasn't for nostalgia those games would have been damned a long ago.
Also about Gen 5 that is my point it was dated, the 3DS was gonna be the new console so when Gen 5 arrived the DS it was just too late. We finally got moving sprites but that end of the DS era.
In Gen 6 for example we were still had grid based movement it wasn't until Gen 7 when we finally had proper movement, but again much like Gen 5, Gen 7 came towards the end of the 3DS life
So let's not act like Pokemon games were technical marvels in the past when they clearly weren't.
"especially when you consider that historically (on handheld devices) they were graphical showcases many moons prior."
Are you sure about that? Pokemon has always been dated visually on every console it's been on. They did weird 3D 2D thing in Gen 4 by the time Gen 5 came out the DS was one it's last legs. There are loads of games that looked much better on their handhelds then Pokemon did. The only difference now not being only a handheld is it's becoming more apparent to people.
Could the games look better sure but it's the same old adage who plays Pokemon for graphics? It's always been for the gameplay and creature designs.
I recently replayed PLA some parts of that game don't look great (caves) but I was having too much fun that it honestly did not bother me. From what I have seen ZA looks fine, I am gonna too busy battle and catching Pokemon to notice buildings

Re: Review: Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Switch) - Still Out Of This World
@hYdeks See if a game is a good & still holds up what does age have to do with it?
Plus people pay ridiculous amounts of money for retro games all the time and some of those games are several decades old.
If the original Wii games sky rocketed in price like GC games did during covid then I am sure most people will not being having this attitude
That said I do agree the price is high but I also understand why Nintendo have done what they have.
