We have a release date for Kingdom Hearts: Melody of Memory! The rhythm action game will launch on Nintendo Switch on 13th November, along with a special mode exclusive to the console.
The game will have you playing as familiar faces from the beloved Kingdom Hearts series, including plenty of Disney stars who'll appear on the scene to lend you a helping hand. Over 140 songs will be included in total, so there's bound to be something for pretty much everyone.
The new mode is a 'Free-for-all' mode which allows you to compete with up to eight players. Check out the new video below.
We also have a lovely selection of screenshots for you:

I wish this was just a Theatrhythm game. The use of almost 20 year old assets is laughable. Nomura will chuck in 5 minutes of ‘crucial plot’ and reel in a bunch of suckers. Yes, I was a KH fan until 3, how did you guess?
This looks nice I just hope they port 1.5 and 2.5 over as well sometime.
Looks like it will probably end up being a lot more kid oriented. Theatrhytm was fun but the last game had SO much music I don't see how you can build on it. Guess this was their only other musical franchise.
I said this before but even if this just looks like a rhythm game on the surface, I assure you it will probably be integral to understanding something that happens in Kingdom Hearts IV
Especially that extra content with Kairi
Well I guess it's for the most part like Theathrythm with a Kingdom Hearts theme? While obviously nothing compared to what the FF series has to offer in terms of music it's still at least a bit of interest to me depending on how much music there is and if the price is right.
It really irks me that this can't just be a fun casual rhythm game for KH fans and that it's part of the lore. Luckilyyyyyy, youtube exists! =D
This looks cool. I hope we get the older games on Switch, as well.
@doctorhino Even just packaging in all the DLC in a bonus edition I’d snap it up on Switch. The Dragon Quest one was pretty good as well but it never came West, I had to get a JP version. Maybe they could do a Squeenix themed one and collect the music from all these games and chuck in the Chrono games, TWEWY, Xenogears and Vagrant Story?
@jimtendog I mean not necessarily
People who are actually dedicated to following those series do have PlayStation and Xbox systems
Hell it's actually easier to keep up with KH than Persona or MegaTen because Square literally put every game up to III in a single collection on PS4 and released all three compilations on Xbox One
There has literally never been a single instance where the numbered entries came to Nintendo platforms but the spinoffs are still really important to the overarching story of the numbered entries
Might get this if there's a physical release.
@nessisonett I mean, this is Theatrhythm Kingdom Hearts in everything but name, so I don't see a problem. Having a plot is not a bad thing. If you don't care about it, I'm sure you can just enjoy the gameplay and skip the story.
This game gives me Wii flashbacks where most Nintendo would get was spin-off versions of series that got their main installments on other systems.
@KoopaTheGamer The gameplay looks shocking. There’s too much on screen, the 3D graphics just look plain bad, they got it perfect with the side scrolling of Theatrhythm as you could focus on the notes but this is more headache-inducing than the Miku games. It literally looks like a mini-game from REcoded.
I just like Kingdom Hearts and rhythm games, so don't see anything to complain about really. Sure it'd be nice to have the mainline games on Switch, but already got them on PS4 so not particularly bothered
Ive never played regular Kingdom Hearts game 😥. No plans to pick this up.
We need more disney games on the switch. I'm surprised they haven't brought that interactive Disney Land game to the switch.
@jimtendog Kingdom Hearts fans have been fairly well-serviced between the All-in-One Collection and KH3, I think. If you're a fan of that series, you know it's primarily a Playstation-based property. Ditto with Persona.
I think what you actually mean is that people who only buy Nintendo consoles are getting shafted on the KH and Persona front, which... goes without saying.
Eh I might pick it up if I have a need to listen to some KH jams (only best part of the series.) Cause lawd knows I can't follow the story and the combat is okay.
I don't even know why Square bothers making games for the Nintendo systems. Clearly they do not care about what Nintendo fans want. Nobody wanted this nonsense.
Still looking forward to this but won't be buying at launch. It appears to be a full priced game according to eShop. I hope the difficulty is on point. I want to destroy my fingers with The 13th Struggle.
Yeah, because who actually wants Kingdom Hearts 1-3? *eye roll
@jimtendog Yeah but why would KH and Persona fans buy NINTENDO consoles, expecting the numbered entries to appear on there
Persona and KH getting spinoffs on Nintendo systems is literally just expected at this point. People who want to dedicate themselves to following Persona wouldn't buy a 3DS or Switch before a PlayStation, because they know that locks them out of getting into the main series since Atlus doesn't put the main games on those platforms. Same with Kingdom Hearts and the numbered entries in that series
@nessisonett
Fully agreed, I'd much rather get a Theatrythm game.
Another meh game, Square Enix seem to love making garbage titles this year. They know what Switch gamers want they just purposely choose not to bring it cause they are as garbage as their game offerings.
Is no one going to mention that this rhythm game is 60$ ?
@jimtendog Yeah there's fan demand, but it's not like people who are Persona fans would be like "I want to get into the series. I'll start with Persona 4 Arena on Xbox 360 because then afterwards Persona 4 and Persona 3 will obviously be on there since they're canonical sequels to those games. While I'm at it I should totally keep up with Kingdom Hearts. I will definitely get a Switch for Kingdom Hearts III. After all, Dream Drop Distance directly sets up that game and is on another Nintendo console"
@SeantheDon29 I just checked the eShop and was about to comment. I love Kingdom Hearts, but there's no way I'm buying this for $60 lol
@SeantheDon29 And once you include the DLC. Let's see how they handle different stages/songs/characters. If they include a pass you are looking at more than 80 dollars for rhythm games. That is how Miku and the Taiko no Tatsujin games do it.
@Tulio517 @N8tiveT3ch It really is disappointing because I would have bought it if it was around the 30-40 dollar mark, but full price is asking too much. You'd think we'd be paying for the trilogy with that price.
@jimtendog completely agree with you. I am same way and I know a ton of other fans who would want those games on the switch. Heck, kingdom hearts is not PlayStation anymore. Xbox has all of the main games now too.
I love kingdom hearts but I have yet to play through all the main series entries because SE won't port them to Switch for some reason (literally easy money smh). THOSE are what I really want to play; not this rhythm game. With that being said I will definitely pick this up......when it drops in price. This game does NOT scream $60 of value in any way shape or form.
@DLevene17 hey, at least we get a nice, huge selection of songs!
And I really miss the 3ds graphics, so I don't really mind.... It's not okay.... But I think it's fine!
The problem with games like this or that Persona scramble game, is that it doesn't appeal to new fans on Nintendo systems. I know about Kingdom Hearts but have never played it. Why would I start with a rhythm game? Also, why would I enter the Persona franchise with a Warriors-esque sequel to 5?
And here I am still missing the Game Boy Advance pixel art graphics for OG Chain of Memories.
Oh and $60 is way too much for this. They're obviously angling for those 25-40% eShop sales closer to the holiday season.
However I might splurge on a physical Japanese copy if the box art is superb, as a longtime KH fan...............sigh
Nope. My money will be spent on other games. Why would we want this when the primary game doesn't have a presence on the Switch?
I feel similar about the fact that Joker is in Smash....but no Persona 5. I know that's off topic but that's just how I feel.
I was just going through the playlist of songs in Super Smash Bros Ultimate and it made me realize that Nintendo could easily make a rhythm game out of their catalog. I think if Nintendo made a fun and expansive rhythm game comprised of their Nintendo Franchises, I have no doubt in the the world that it would be well received. Like a Theatrhythm Nintendo Legacy or a new concept. Please Nintendo!
@nessisonett This IS Theatrhythm with chibi characters and all, just adapted to the KH gameplay. The DQ version was also adapted to the playstyle from that franchise
@OmegaDestroyer Atlus is well aware of that, the spin offs tend to have very little connection to the main games, like they just give the most basic plot points you need to know but in no way require you to have played the mainline ones. It's very obvious they bank on the people who might feel attracted to the series but aren't into turn based gameplay
This will satisfy. I understand it's more of a mini-game but, it'll be fine. The question is will there be more Kingdom Hearts on the Switch? Why doesn't the Kingdom Hearts that actually released on a Nintendo device actually come to the Switch? Chain of Memories, 358-2, Dream Drop Distance was on a mobile device so why not the Switch? Birth By Sleep also was mobile,
though for the PSP. Wouldn't those be easy ports? I would play them even if they weren't remastered.
Will buy this , but still I do wonder from the cutscenes I saw why they don't bring at least kh 1 & 2 collection to the switch
Looks like complete claptrap compared to Theatrhythym.
The GBA, DS and 3DS have been better treated with substantial entries KH series. Yet the Switch is getting this.
Don't tell me, this throwaway rhythm game in a series where rhythm games have long been the bane of our existence is, in fact, key to understanding some future KH entry?
@jimtendog I just got the impression that you actually thought Persona and Kingdom Hearts fans who obviously know where to play the main entries were being screwed over by this announcement of a rhythm game coming to a Nintendo system, when Nintendo systems traditionally get the spinoff content pretty much all the time, that's all
This is not Kingdom Hearts. This is KH branded merchandise. Pass. If you want me to buy your spin offs, port KH 1+2 HD Remix to Switch. It ran on PS360, it'll run on Switch.
I believe kingdom hearts is coming to switch.. why bring these spin offs if your not planning on bringing the real deal.
Hehe, it's nice to see the guys at Nintendo realizing Kingdom Hearts exists.
When i saw this I thought it was an actual Kingdom hearts game. I would take a port at this point but this??? 🤨
It's not worth $59.99 for sure.
I'm a sucker for KH, probably the fact that KH1 was not on the console I had as a kid fueled the curiosity. But even now it's such an annoying move to re-release 1-2 like three times and only pick PS3/PS4, I'm destined to avoid the main series no matter what. Still though, CoM, 358/2 Days, Recoded, and DDD are quite enjoyable in their own right.
I still can't with the new world choices in BBS, it's all 1940s-1960s Disney worlds and then bam, Lilo & Stitch.
I was planning on getting this game for Playstation since it is the best system to play Kingdom Hearts game on, but now that I know about the Switch exclusive mode, guess I'll be buying it for Nintendo Switch instead. I hope it gets a physical copy, I refuse to accept the digital only bs!
