After huge success with his Kickstarter campaign for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Koji Igarashi has decided it's time to release a sequel to the 2018 8-bit title, Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon. The announcement was made earlier this week during the New Game+ Expo broadcast.
At the time, there was no mention of when Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2 would be released, but now it seems we've got a release date and price. Inti Creates has announced the sequel will be arriving on 10th July and according to Nintendo's website, it'll be priced at $14.99. Pre-purchases are also now available.
That's not all, though. The same Nintendo game page reveals how there'll be a brand new local co-op mode for 2-players. This is a series' first - allowing you to fight alongside a friend, mix and match the strengths of two different characters, and conquer stages in new and exciting ways.
The "official 2nd trailer" (see above) has also confirmed the return of Miriam, Alfred, and Gebel from the original game.
Will you be going alone or teaming up with a friend when Curse of the Moon 2 arrives on the eShop next month? Tell us below.

Wow, almost a stealth release. The first one was good. I’ll try it. I haven’t played Bloodstained yet, I’m still waiting for a graphics update like everyone else...... it’s a shame the game launched in that state.
All in day 1! Probabaly won't play co-op but it's nice having the option.
I still need to finish the first game!!
Very cool looking sequel (I vastly prefer NES looking games that feature 16-bit colors and graphical effects) but will be keeping the franchise digital on Steam.
I'll grab it physical later on Switch.
Nice that they took our feedbacks very serious now. It's still an 8-Bit inspired game but glad that the graphic look more like the colorful Sega Master System/Game Gear style instead of the ugly overuse NES one.
"Horrible Night". I see what they did there.
Awesome news, I thought we'd have to wait longer. Nice to see that the other playable characters from the first CotM are back too. The whole gang is here.
EDIT: Here's the second trailer, which shows Miriam, Alfred and Gebel returning.

Why does the narrator sound like a male phone sex operator? Lol
Apparantly azure striker gunvlort 3 was also announced
With both this and ASG3, they’re on a roll. I’m hyped, that’s for sure.
This is cool, do we have any word on a physical release like the first one got?
I'm sorry, did they say a CORGI is inside that mech?
This and deadly premonition 2 on the same day!? The nine divines have blessed us!
A physical copy with 1 and 2 included would be welcome!
@TurboTEF Yeah, I like the look of it too. It's also interesting to note that games like Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, Shovel Knight etc look way better than any NES game actually did (with more objects on screen, more varied tilesets, sometimes larger color palettes etc).
Instead they're going for a look that is close enough to not be distracting, but more polished to hold up even these days. As said by someone (maybe Yacht Club Games themselves?) when referring to Shovel Knight, they look how we remember the NES games looking, which is a good decision because I really wouldn't want to see sprite flickering etc on my new game.
I am 90% sure that LRG will give us a physical of Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2.
I got it digital when the first one released.
I got the physical from LRG.
I will do the same with this ones as well.
I prefer Metroidvanias but those games are sooooo well done that I can't resist.
@KoopaTheGamer I call them TG16 games with decent parallax scrolling.
A physical copy is a must for me ..
All the drama with ritual of the night (which I still haven't bought BTW) combined with this announcement made me go out and purchase the 1st curse of the moon and its actually really fun. I look forward to the getting the 2nd.
Oh man I'm super excited for this game. Curse of the Moon was an amazing experience, perfect length of time for people with a big backlog. Cant wait to pick this up
I hate to have to wait , but I do expect a physical version like the first got. I loved the first so I’ll go with that. This game seems bigger and better in every way I love all the characters returning alongside this new batch.
Will this release one week later after the other versions only for It to be to be discovered that the Switch version looks like an Atari 2600 game, only for the developers to then act like they were totally oblivious to any problems and that they will take 6-9 months to make the game run and look okay? Just checking....
I'll be inviting my brother over to co-op this one with me.
@Itachi2099 should have saved that overwrought joke for a Ritual of the Night sequel.
@Coalescence hey fam, with the speed they make their updates and DLC their second game will come out in like 8-10 years lol
@Banjopickles: Lol. On a separate note, Kangaroo! Arcade was announced 6/19. We're finally going to get an arcade archives release! Don't know when, but at least it's confirmed. I'm surprised it wasn't reported on this site.
@Zuljaras Yeah hoping (and expecting) LRG to announce a physical fairly soon.
Considering I was never keen on 2D games from back in NES / SNES era (just never clicked with me) but gave the original a chance and it was a whole lotta fun even for a novice like me. Looking forward to 2.
It feels like the first one just came out.
@KnightRider666
Omg, are you serious?
@KnightRider666
I’m searching for info on it right now.
@Banjopickles : 100% serious. Look: https://nintendoeverything.com/arcade-archives-kangaroo-p-47-the-freedom-fighter-heading-to-switch/
@Banjopickles : That news made my year! Now if only we could get Popeye and Radar Scope...
Omg! Yes! Between this and Super Punch Out, I am so close to having every classic arcade game I’ve ever wanted!
Stupid question, but I do know that Popeye is in the public domain in Europe. If that’s the case, I would assume that it would make things easier on Nintendo. I can’t find any info on the status of Popeye in the states, though. Man, I would love to see a Popeye rerelease!
@BanjoPickles @KnightRider666 OMG KANGAROO!! AT LAST!! CotM2, ASG3, and now this holy cow. So many years ago... So happy right now.
Also, I'd love to see Popeye so bad as well.
@Banjopickles @Meloman : I'm not even close to having every arcade game I've ever wanted yet. Looking for the entire Mr. Do! series.
@KnightRider666
This is seriously the best gaming news I’ve heard in a long time, and an absolute day one!
I told my daughter that pretty soon I want to start having a monthly night at the arcades, where we stay up late and play nothing but old arcade classics. The only thing I need to do is beef up my Neo Geo collection.
I actually kind of wish that they would do something similar to what Microsoft did several years ago. I forget what the service was called, and it was far from perfect, but you could visit a virtual online arcade, play with people from around the world, and you had the option to either play the old fashioned way with virtual currency or simply buy the games outright. I would love to have a virtual room where I could set the arcades up. Better yet, it’d be cool to be able to integrate that concept into Animal Crossing and have an arcade in your basement where you could invite friends to your island to play arcade games.
Btw, I don’t know if you’re a fan of the Kunio game’s, but the Double Dragon and Kunio Collection is currently half off on the NA eshop! I snagged it up immediately.
@Banjopickles : Xbox live arcade, I believe. I only have 24 of the ACA neo geo games. I just haven't brought myself to drop $850 for the rest of them. I actually bought the kunio collection physical import on ebay recently. The space invaders Collection physical from strictly limited games is going on sale today at 6pm eastern time. Check ot out, better grab it right when it's available; or you'll miss out!
Don’t care about co-op but I’ll take the rest day one!
