Re: Video: "It's Actually...Really Good" - Our Hot 'Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour' Preview Take

AvianBlue

Just a thought, but prior to widespread internet use and even during it people used to willingly pay for a player's guide which is a tutorial or walkthrough of a game. This is pretty close to that imo.

Untitled

Additionally, had Nintendo named this " 1, 2, Switch 2" it might not have even garnered any attention. This is one of those things most gamers would skip over anyway even if it was free so yeah...

Re: Round Up: The First Impressions Of 'Drag x Drive' For Switch 2 Are In

AvianBlue

When I first saw the trailer for this game I thought it would be a DJ type game due to the music. Part of this game's namesake "drag" means several things: 1. boring or tedious, 2. persons who dress opposite their gender for performances, and 3. Music being played in slower tempo than intended.

Maybe Nintendo is holding back info on this game and there is more to it.

I do agree that the game lacks color/personality. I felt the same about "Steel Diver".

Re: Surprise Leak Reveals Lenovo Is Releasing Another Switch-Like Gaming Handheld

AvianBlue

Hmm... I don't think Nintendo is in any danger here. I don't pc game much but I do not recall seeing physical copies of pc games in stores. The consequences of this would be an all digital future which a good segment of gamers do jot like. Secondly, with the cost of game development going up publishers will want to release on everything. Lastly because pc is so vast it can fracture/divide gamers attention so much that games will get lost. Console gaming allows for there to be individual sihlos to build an audience instead of being buried by the volume of games on pc or the advertising budget of triple a developer

Re: Soapbox: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Won't Be The Franchise's 'BOTW Moment', And That's Okay

AvianBlue

Metroid/Metroid Prime does NOT need to have a Breath of the Wild moment yet. This franchise doesn't receive a ton of games to where it would cause player fatigue from its traditional conventions like Zelda, Kirby, Fire Emblem, Mario and especially POKEMON.

Just innovating for the sake of innovating is how you end up with games that all try to be open world sandboxes or that lose it's identity. (See the fan divisiveness of the Paper Mario Series)

Re: Feature: 25 Things You Might Have Missed In The Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Reveal Trailer

AvianBlue

Hmm... 2024-2025 has been eventful for Ninty's leading ladies. Started off with Peach. Now Zelda. Next Samus.

As for this game it looks interesting but don't have enough info. Like the article mentioned I thought Zelda's first leading role would see her use magic or even the bow of light. (It still could. Yet tbd) I'm really curious as to what boss levels look like or if at the end of the game you unlock hero mode and play as Link. So many questions so few answers.

Unrelated, i kinda of get an animal crossing vibe with the wonder rod duplication. Maybe this will lead to a Zelda Maker mode.

Re: EA Apparently Exploring The Idea Of In-Game Ads In Traditional AAA Titles

AvianBlue

I don't know if this idea will work like they are thinking. Besides the fact that its a bad idea who would advertise and which game types. A lot of companies may not want to associate their products with "mature" blood soaked games. Furthermore the return on investment is short term unless the game is online like fortnite or madden.

Brands that might line up for something like this are:
Mtn Dew
Doritos
Axe Body Spray
Gamestop

Re: Rumour: Xbox May Be About To Join The Switch In The Handheld Space

AvianBlue

I don't see Microsoft doing well in the handheld space unless they address a few issues. Typically Microsoft's demographic for Xbox prefer the full/big screen experience with exceptional graphics. Secondly, they would have to address their game design philosophy and the lifestyle handheld gaming offers to consumers. Just placing full 80 hour games on a handheld does not equal success. Even games like Breath of the Wild had handheld in mind with it's pickup and play style so gamers could play for a few minutes at a time.

Edit: also as many have said microsoft lacks diversity in it's IP. (Or at least they refuse to utilize games like Viva Pinata, Banjo, etc. The verdict is still out on the acquisition of Crash & Spyro)

Re: Talking Point: Should 'Third' Pokémon Games Make A Comeback?

AvianBlue

It has been a while since I played Pokemon but there should NOT be twi versions of the same game anymore.

It would probably improve the story of these games if it were only one version. Imagine Ruby/Sapphire as a unified game with both team aqua and magma stories competing for players attention

Re: Hands On: We've Played Princess Peach: Showtime! - Is It Any Good?

AvianBlue

Hmm... Nothing wrong with easy. This game will probably be super rare/expensive once the switch successors are released.

On a side note, every character from super mario bros 2 has had the starring role in their own game:

  • Mario in Mario Odysee
  • Luigi in Luigi Mansion 3
  • Toad in Captain Toad Treasure Tracker
  • Peach in this new game.

Time for super mario bros 2 remake with a funky art style

Re: Sakurai Is Sceptical That Future Smash Bros. Titles Can Match Ultimate's Scope

AvianBlue

Like others have said a smash reboot or a definitive edition on the switch successor. If Ninty goes this route I would like to see a return of "race to the finish", "break the targets", and "touch the platform"

@PMFan354 @Davzilla

Something else / Another alternative idea:
Turn Smash into a brand similar to how TecmoKoei does their musou/Dynasty Warriors games. (i.e : fire emblem warriors and hyrule warriors) each spin off series can focus on one franchise and offer gameplay differences

Smash: Pokemon Showdown (imagine type effectiveness gameplay factored in)
Smash: Fire Emblem Edition (imagine gameplay that used the weapons triangle)
Smash: Hyrule Brawl
Smash: Mario Bros Mayhem
Etc...

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Want From A 'Splatoon 4'?

AvianBlue

I also only played Splatoon 1 and never bothered with the rest of the series as the gameplay didn't resonate. In single player, the AI was basic and wasn't challenging. The locals are interesting but still played the same despite the location. Despite all of that Splatoon oozes style and character that I love. For me splatoon is a mashup of platformer and arena shooter without offering the best of each genre. Again I only played the first game so a lot of what In saying could have already been implemented/tried.

I think Nintendo could improve Splatoon in several areas:

1. World building
To me Splatoon's world is very disjointed and simplified The locations are sometimes interesting but basically play exactly the same. You literally are just running through corridors to get to checkpoint. Nintendo should give players a reason to explore a stage.

2. Enemy Diversity/Challenge

3. Gameplay challenges
I think part of the fatigue with splatoon comes from the readily available ammo and ease of availability of weapons. Pull a Mario Sunshine (Metal mario challenge where he takes away f.l.u.d.d.) In the case of splatoon the inklings endless supply of ink is now finite. This can create challenges where inkling have to survive and strategize. Maybe give an ability where they can recall the limited ink instead of producing more.

Borrow elements from metroid and hide weapons and upgrades in the stages.

Maybe another gameplay element would allow inklings to use multiple colors in single player mode. Maybe different colors can have different attributes such as red = fire or yellow = electricity. Colors could also be used for puzzles to.

Another gameplay mode can borrow from the runner genre. Inklings might infiltrate a lair and when they get to the goal flip the script by having them race out of the lair before it self destructs. As they are running back to the entrance they will have to utilize the ink splatter they already laid while dealing with falling objects and changes to the environment.

Another single player gameplay ideal might have you play as one of three new idols in the RGB band (base them off digital colors) and their battle against the CMYK. Each band member can play differently or have abilities based on their race.

Possibly add co-op to single player mode.

Maybe the next splatoon could be a spinoff and lean heavily into art with different art styles and paint techniques.

*i do NOT think multiplayer needs to change other than availability of all stages at all times

** if nothing else happens maybe a mini game mode based off some of these ideas. Think bomberman/mario party but with splatoon.

Re: PlayStation Boss Doesn't Think Call Of Duty Appeals To Nintendo's Core Audience

AvianBlue

Interesting that a lot of commentors are agreeing. A lot of Nintendo fans love Call of Duty. The issue is for several console generations Nintendo lacked core games aimed at those looking for mature content. Consequently these individuals either become a ninty-sony console owner, ninty-xbox owner, or they leave Nintendo altogether and demand that Nintendo go 3rd party.

Edit: Nintendo may be "family friendly" but families mature and start to develop different gaming tastes.

Re: Soapbox: Pokémon Desperately Needs A Rival, But Who's Big Enough To Take It On?

AvianBlue

I think it can be done. In the case of Dragon Quest Monsters, part of the lack of "success" is due to Square Enix's intermittent publishing of their games. Furthermore for both capcom and square their monster collection games are derivatives of already established franchises.

Anything that challenges Pokemon needs to look at how splatoon carved out its niche. It must have character, strong art direction, and stand out compared to its competitors.

Re: Random: Nintendo Embraces Mortal Kombat's Gore In Stark Contrast To '90s Censorship

AvianBlue

I actually enjoy the censorship in mortal kombat. Oddities like babalities and "friendship fatalities" helped lighten it up as the game didn't take itself too seriously. The numerous sequels afterwards didn't bother me with its violence either but something about this new game does. Guess I'm just getting old.

After watching the new trailer I found the fatalities unnecessarily vulgar and over the top (frankly disturbing/gross even for Mortal Kombat standards)

It would be nice if they could offer the ability to turn off the gore but that's what other fighting games are for. I think less would be more as gaming approaches realism more and more.

Re: It's Official, E3 2023 Has Been Cancelled

AvianBlue

@ nintendolife
Now we need 5 different articles about E3 (or just one good one) that talks about the history of E3 and its decline.

E3 dying is for the best.

E3 back in the day had terrible antiquated/toxic practices that are not representative of where video game culture is now with its wider public perception.

Some of these things include:
>Console Wars
>Booth babes (which could have also been male but I only ever recall female)
>long lines/traffic
>being overshadowed (especially if you were a smaller developer, indie, or niche game genre)
>boring sales talk/ industry jargon
>toxicity towards casual gamers and women (cammi dunaway e3 2009)

For all these negatives there were also positives such as:
>Reggie memes
>Seeing various game devs like Miyamoto playing xbox or other competitors
> zelda twilight reveals as mentioned by another poster
> swag if you were lucky to attend
> sense of community especially back then since video games hadn't gained widespread acceptance yet and online games weren't as prominent.

E3 is not necessary to see all gaming news for those that don't want to be bothered looking at multiple directs. That's what websites like ign, kotaku, nintendolife and whatever their other sites are called for. They can aggregate all this information for you.

Re: Soapbox: Gaming Superstitions And Rituals Might Not Work, But They Matter

AvianBlue

Also RPGs and Kid Icarus Uprising have made me superstitious of treasure chests that look to good to be true. I always hit them with a projectile before opening.

Additionally Pokemon and other rpgs have taught me to horde items in fear that I won't find another one. I was always the weirdo that never used rare candy.

In fire emblem, until one of the more recent games (i think it was valentia) I would always max out a character before upgrading/reclassing because I thought it mattered.

Re: Poll: Do You Want Weapon Degradation To Return In Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom?

AvianBlue

I don't think I would like crafting weapons. I could see it being a pain to chase down some enemy for a rare drop. On the other hand I do like the idea of maybe forging weapons to increase durability.

Thinking about it further as several people pointed out weapons were plentiful and then redundant after getting the master sword. Maybe Nintendo could create enemies that are weak against certain weapons and stronger against others similar to fire emblems weapons triangle. Maybe certain enemies could break your weapon or throw it far out of reach if you're not careful (looks at Lynel)..

@Uncle_Franklin I love the idea of taking inspiration on weapons from kid Icarus because Pits weapons greatly changed his speed and power depending on the weapons equipped.

Re: Talking Point: Does Nintendo's Next Console Have To Be 'Another' Switch?

AvianBlue

I'll just repost what I said last week.

Nintendo is actually in an excellent position to go back to a two pillar system and divide their handheld and console game development. The Switch could continue on as the handheld and the "nintendo next console" could release. Meanwhile Switch can continue to get games and maybe a price drop/budget handheld game prices similar to 3DS. Once the "new console" is out for 2 to 3 years they can release the sequel to the Switch. maybe the two consoles could connect like vita/ps4 or gba/GameCube

Nintendo could take a page from its historical handheld legacy (gameboy series) and release another iteration of Switch with a new gimmick or slight upgrade like New 3ds. The games created for this model can play differently depending on the hardware ie: Switch or New Switch.

Going back to the initial question the short answer is no but as many have mentioned it is most beneficial if they do another hybrid.

Overall, what's most surprising is that Switch is as old as it is without a price drop in sight
