Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Trailer Unveils Region Name And New Mechanics

AvianBlue

Likes:

  • open world
  • colorful
  • pokemon partially engaged in environment
  • badges in any order

Dislikes:

  • motorbike pokemon (not everything has to be a pokemon. Why not a car or paraglider)
  • the player character is still a child
  • the new "mega" mechanic

Overall this looks like a major step in the right direction but then again I haven't played a pokemon game since x and y. I will skip this entry as well but that's due to franchise fatigue.

Re: Back Page: Making The Perfect Nintendo Frankenconsole

AvianBlue

Having thought about it more no one mentioned the analog sticks, dpad, removeable batteries, single cart play, backwards compatibility, console color choices, games fitting on a single wii u disc, more frequent blue ocean/experimental games like Endless ocean, swapnote, flipnote, wii party, ir/onrail shooter games, etc

Re: Back Page: Making The Perfect Nintendo Frankenconsole

AvianBlue

The Wii U disrespect is real! Miiverse was great of course but Nintendo's online efforts on Wii U was/is better than Switch. Plus free online. Netflix. Competent web browser. You could definitely chat with friends without need of another device. As for 3DS I would say spotpass/streetpass was a fantastic feature that should have been expanded. O also forgot what it was called but 3DS also had animated shorts featuring Kid Icarus and other cartoons like sharkbear

Re: Feature: 13 Best Seniors In Games

AvianBlue

Agatha from the Elite 4 (pokemon) was a boss back in the day.

From the Mortal Kombat universe Raiden and Shang Tsun.

Probably some character from Fire Emblem whose name escapes me.

Great Deku Tree from Zelda. Also Zelda's Dad.

Edit:
Doc Louis from Punchout

Re: Reggie: Nintendo's Transition From Switch Will Be A "Significant Challenge"

AvianBlue

Just thinking outside the box here but Nintendo is in a great position to go back to splitting their development into handheld and consoles. Instead of releasing a "Switch Pro" maybe they take the phone model and increment upgrades. Meanwhile launch a "traditional" console with power to play new 3rd party games. Nintendo could make it to where this new console syncs up with Switch in a unique way. (Think psp to ps4 like connection). Basically nintendo would have 3 pillars: eShop(which should be like Netflix for games), Switch, and new console. If done successfully maybe Switch can stick around for 10 years as the handheld. Only problem with this is that traditional consoles don't do well in Japan and Nintendo wouldn't want to give up on the hybrid market they created.

Re: EarthBound-Style Horror RPG OMORI Is Finally Coming To Switch After Skipping The 3DS

AvianBlue

@Losermagnet @sonicmeerkat

Agreed. This website has a very bad habit of comparing games to other established ip. If you observe closely, they tend to choose comparisons for games that have a fervent fan following such as Metroid, Okami, demon souls, etc. Comparisons are not bad in and of itself because they can be used to help explain a concept that is hard to define however NintendoLife does this for the clicks.

Also if the game genre labels we use such as platformer, rpg, fps, etc are insufficient because it doesn't adequately describe the game then constantly calling everything MetroidVania is going to eventually cause the same problem. Worst case is it will confuse a consumer/dissuade them from looking into a game especially if they didn't like the game NintendoLife is comparing it to.

As for this game it has a hand drawn eclectic vibe.

Re: A New Smash Bros. Would Need A Smaller Roster, Admits Sakurai

AvianBlue

I agree with those that are for a reduced roster. We definitely don't need 3 links and the multiple clones of fire emblem characters. I was always of the opinion that each new release from each respective Nintendo franchise would replace the current representative but that has not been the case. For the third-party characters Nintendo could retool their movesets to work with 1st party characters (i.e.: Dillion rolling western in place of Sonic)

On the other hand, Nintendo could take the Capcom Street Fighter approach and iterate the game. Think Street Fighter II and Super Street Fighter II. They could have Smash Ultimate Classic and Smash: Next Gen. The former just a port with enhanced online the later a sequel with reduced/focused roster. They could space these games 2 years apart.

I also like the idea of a 3d smash similar to Powerstone but I agree with what someone else said in that they should be separate franchises. Again Capcom is a great example . Look at Morrigan, she appears in the Capcom Vs and Darkstalkers. Maybe Nintendo could make a "3D smash" featuring just Nintendo villains .

Re: Sakurai Says He's Not Thinking About A New Smash Bros. Game, But Won't Rule It Out

AvianBlue

@SamirMalik

I thought the exact same thing. If Sakurai wants to take Smash in a new direction I think 3D would be the best bet. It could be an arena fighter like Power Stone is.

I think Kirby was the last Nintendo franchise that held out on going 3D but Forgotten Land will change that.

If Smash goes the more traditional route I would prefer they trim the fat from the roster ie: remove characters that play the same or drastically alter there moveset.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons: Everything We Know About The Happy Home Paradise DLC

AvianBlue

I think Animal Crossing has the design aspect on lock. I think more improvements in NPC development would be beneficial such as behavior/personality.

I also think Animal Crossing could benefit from having a little drama, conflict, or real world problems. For instance maybe introduced campaigning contest, where you compete against a NPC for public office.

Or weatherproof your home or island for stormy season by gathering supplies.

Maybe implement a scavenger hunt or race in a giant wild area in the game with caves and other natural areas. Maybe players have to prepack for the trip and survive in a short minigame.

Most importantly it needs to mimic things like Fortnite events or maybe smash's weekly sticker themes . Nintendo could do a f- zero or Pokemon theme event.

Re: Poll: What's The Best Ace Attorney Game?

AvianBlue

The original Phoenix wright ace attorney is my favorite. I enjoyed the characters. I kinda wish they would have done a spin off. (Mia Fey Ace attorney)

But I think that idea is dead cause one of the latter phoenix games covers her career

Re: Feature: Steven Spohn On Strides In Accessibility For Gaming, And Nintendo's Room For Improvement

AvianBlue

So let's shift the conversation from Nintendo to things any game developer should be able to implement:

Colorblind mode
Mappable buttons/motions
Larger text.

These are probably the basic features that should be available for a game. Anything else is extra or obstacles people have to overcome. Also if there is money to be had, some business entity will create products to cater to this demographic

Re: Retro Studios Scrapped An "Open-World" Idea For Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

AvianBlue

I think Metroid Prime would be just fine in an open world. Metroid Prime Hunters truly did open worlds but unfortunately they were linear levels. The idea just had to be developed further.

Samus ship could have it's own power ups and abilities like a tractor beam or warp drive that could be used to remove obstacles or battle giant bosses/enemies. If they design it well there will be parts in the game the ship can't get to forcing Samus to get out and dungeon crawl.

Re: New Pokémon Legends: Arceus Footage Introduces The Hisui Region

AvianBlue

This trailer did nothing to change my opinion on this game. It did slightly improve. I have come to accept that game freak will never be cutting edge with graphics.

I looked more at the gameplay, environment, and the interaction of the Pokemon. That would be the area I recommend Game freak work on. To me, the Pokemon just wonder by aimlessly. When I see Pokemon I see animals that are scavenging for food and defending territory from other creatures or alpha male Pokemon. Basically the Pokemon don't seem to have a purpose other than to be interacted with by the player

Re: Zelda: The Wind Waker Reimagined Inside Unreal Engine Is A Sight To Behold

AvianBlue

I actually agree with @Crono1973 not everything needs to be ported. Windwaker is/was on GameCube and Wii U. Just look at the fandom demanding Metroid Prime Trilogy ports for Switch. That game has been on GameCube, Wii, and Wii U. The funny thing is if Ninty were to port it you all would complain about the price or call it lazy.

The main problem is Nintendo is not future proofing their e-Shops. You should be able to download any of the games mentioned digitally but they are segmented by artificial eShop separation. The same will probably happen with the Switch successor.

Re: Feature: Fire Emblem And 8 Other Nintendo Franchises That Need A TV Series

AvianBlue

Oh wow! Didn't expect the comments to be so jaded to the idea. I personally would love to see some game franchises get a tv show, anime, movie, etc. Not everyone wants to play the games as a franchise but might enjoy the characters.

Pokemon is a special situation where people want the mainline games to be more like the show.

I haven't played Three Houses but my candidate for Fire Emblem would be Path of Radiance. I thoroughly enjoyed the cut scenes in the game but couldn't be bothered to s-rank all the support conversations. Plus if the director plays the cards right with the permadeath they can create the feeling of Game of thrones where no character is safe.

I don't think Punchout would get any kind of adaptation. I could see it being like Baki without the gore but they would have to tread carefully as not to stereotype or be racist.

I'm all in on Zelda. Maybe Samurai Jack style or studio ghibli.

Kid Icarus is an honorary mention because of all the anime shorts Nintendo created to support Uprising. I would love a continuation.

Smash bros idk... it could take on a captain N like take or do something similar to DBZ where the characters compete in a tournament. The only problem with that is the developers of each respective franchise would want their character to win.

Re: Animal Crossing Datamine Suggests Popular Hangout Could Still Return

AvianBlue

Animal Crossing should have taken the approach that Fortnite took as far as seasons and content. Maybe do timed Nintendo content. A lot of the comments are complaining about the lack of stuff to do which happens in every Animal Crossing. Adding Brewster only revives the game for a little while.

The next Animal Crossing might want to add more mini games to play with friends, and bigger island to create exploration. Maybe they can have landform that are interactive like a cave you could explore.

Another thing they might want to work on is the npc AI.

Re: Spindle Is A Zelda-Like Where You Play The Role Of Death... And A Pig

AvianBlue

@nimnio

I believe @BloodNinja adequately addressed your argument in his/her initial comment. But if you want to call the game "Top-down-adventure-game-featuring-overworld-dungeons-and-item-based-progress", then that's your prerogative.

Top down adventure game, or dungeon crawler, or action adventure game are more succinct and would suffice.

Re: Poll: So, Will You Be Getting A Switch OLED Or Valve Steam Deck?

AvianBlue

Does steam actually advertise their games, hardware, or service? That might be the difference between finding mainstream success or carving a niche. If they want mainstream success then they will have to advertise to core and casual.

Also, lol at another device entering the games market and the doom and gloom being cast at Nintendo. In actuality this Steam device might be more dangerous to Microsoft and Sony.

Laptops are also portable and potentially more cost effective than this device. Regardless it's a matter of the market's interest and both should be able to coexist.

Nintendo is still in a good position. They are about 5 years into the Switch lifecycle and haven't had to do a price drop yet while maintaining market dominance. By the time the other competitors impact Nintendo they will be ready for the next console.

Re: Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl Is A "Smash Bros-Alike" Fighting Its Way To Switch This Fall

AvianBlue

The Shrekies might finally get their wish for Shrek in smash. (Dreamworks is Nickelodeon right?)

That's one of the things I miss about the Nintendo/Sega era, there were lots of clones of popular game genres and usually a few good ones with their own twist.

So far we have 5 smash clones if I'm not forgetting anything:
> Brawlhalla
> PlayStation Battle Royale
> Jump Superstar
> Kirby Battle
> Nickelodeon Allstars

Re: Physical And Collector's Editions Of Among Us Are Here

AvianBlue

That's great for those who want it. Hmm... among us is essentially a multiplayer game where you probably would want to have it digitally.

I think Among Us is in major need for more depth and replay value such as a single player story mode and expanded multiplayer modes. Bigger maps are not as fun to play on as the smaller maps.

Re: Latest Metroid Dread Report Teaches Us All About Samus' Terrifying Enemy, The E.M.M.I.

AvianBlue

@3RedTriangles I like this theory but looking at the picture of the EMMI I don't think a full grown Metroid could fit inside. Hmm... maybe a mother brain like Metroid is controlling it remotely.

I don't really remember the full story for Metroid so far but I thought the Metroids were extinct beside the baby. (Edit/spoiler the baby got blasted)

@The-Nate
I also like your theory of federation conspiracy cover up. Why would they program it to hunt Samus? To get her high tech suit? Or her Metroid infused DNA?
