The closing ceremony of the Pokémon World Championship was packed full of new information about Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, the most notable reveal being the identity of a brand new 'mon, Cyclizar, who will be landing in the Pokédex on November 18th.
This Dragon/Normal type Pokémon will possess a new battle move, Shed Tail, where it can create a substitute and then swap places with a party Pokémon in waiting. However, it is not this cool new ability that has captured the attention of fans on Twitter, but Cyclizar's strangely recognisable appearance.
As pointed out by our friends over at Eurogamer, the particular point of interest is the Pokémon's motorbike-like features, many of which seem to be similar to those on Scarlet & Violet's legendaries, Koraidon and Miraidon.
Now, this could be a complete coincidence; as anyone who loyally played 'Who's That Pokémon?' each week in their childhood will tell you, many Pokémon share similar features and sometimes even full silhouettes (yeah, we're looking at you Clefairy). But there is every chance that Cyclizar's "legendary" appearance could be hinting at a larger evolutionary theory for Scarlet & Violet's story — do we have a legendary's pre- or even a post-evolution state on our hands?
Fans were quick to Twitter with their theories about the series' newest Pokémon, many of which circulate around the idea of Cyclizar's appearance coming from a different timeline to the box art legendaries, who seem to represent the past (Koraidon) and the future (Miraidon) respectively.
With their transport capabilities, reptilian look and wheel-shaped upper body, we can certainly see the connection between Cyclizar and the new legendaries. There has long been speculation that the newest entries in the franchise would be somehow connected to the concept of the past vs. the future, and perhaps the reveal of this new Pokémon could be our first major hint of how this will affect the game's legendaries.
In the absence of any more official information, we will have to wait until November 18th to find out Cyclizar's full role in the legendary cycle.

How is their relation even questioned? Doesn't take a band of Twitter users to figure this one out.
Almost certainly, as the new ex cards based on these legendaries had their stage and evolution line blurred out.

I think the bigger question is how does the evolution mechanic work?

If it's the same Pokemon but from different time periods (which would be an amazing explanation if true) then you have to wonder why they went from big.....to small....and then back to big. You'd think they'd have some size consistency at least (though I guess dinosaurs did become chickens later down the line so what do I know).
I'm not complaining though: I've always liked mons like Carbink that are linked to Legendaries/Mythicals but don't outright become them and if I had to describe the newest member of that group in Cyclizar in one word, it'd be endearing. VERY endearing.
I think it'll be a Manaphy and phione situation.... Maybe?

There’s definitely something up would throw off the balance of the entire game if you got the box Legends on your team from the beginning. Im thinking something like Cosmog

Isn’t just a not so fancy bike alternative until the respective Legendary is caught?
It could be they're related, or Cyclizar is just the default 'bike' you get before the Legendary. Unless Koraidon & Miraidon are common in their respective Eras, which would be weird and not really be Legendary.

I think since you may get the legendries early on in the game to be able to traverse the open world map maybe they start off as this Pokemon and evolve throughout the game gaining new abilities, like being able to swim or fly.
@Fizza Not just the size, it doesn't look like it can fly which would be odd because why would it lose that ability and then gain it back
Really would be great if nintendolife writers would stop spoiling new pokes in the thumbnails before the games release. Y'all suck. It's a really bad habit you guys have.
Hmm... I wonder if the polemon company will troll players and say Cyclizar is unrelated to the legendaries. I could have sworn up and down that Alomala was related to Luvdisc by looking at it. Just goes to show that you never know
Comment Section here did not let me down, this article made me question humanity's IQ for a split second but thank god its just Twitter and the author of this article.
Maybe it's a Sun and Moon situation. Or maybe the boxart Pokémon aren't really legendary after all. 🤔
@Royalblues It's more the tone in which the article is written than the content.
They could have titled it "So how is this newest pokemon related to scarlet and violets legendaries?" and then posed the different theories. But instead they worked it like a shocked question with "Wait, Is Scarlet & Violet's Newest Pokémon Related To The Legendaries?" and inserted some tweets from randoms.
Then the article is says stuff like "here has long been speculation that the newest entries in the franchise would be somehow connected to the concept of the past vs. the future,"... no there hasn't. They literally revealed that Scarlet has the dinosaur lizard and the cave-man looking professor and that Violet has the robot looking lizard and the techno professor, they showed us that this is a main theme for this entry.
It all just feels quite dumbed down and patronising, so people reacted with mild disdain and sarcasm. I'm not saying that was the right way for us to react, but the article would invite more conversation with a different tone too.
