Re: Nintendo Slays Switch Emulator Ryujinx

ArcticSin

@batmanbud2 Because I've had every Nintendo console since the GBA and N64 and I'd rather not leave the games. I think Nintendo games are great but not special or better than any other.

My time with PC gaming has also left me wanting more from hardware and game optimization. I'm not asking for like 8K 120fps from the Switch 2 but like seriously Nintendo throw some of us that understand hardware a bone for once. I want to love Nintendo games again but I can't stomach playing games at 720p 30fps anymore. It's not 2006 anymore. Hence why I gravitate emulation. And I'm one of the few that doesn't pirate and actually wants to either rip games or use a cartridge dumper.

Re: Nintendo Slays Switch Emulator Ryujinx

ArcticSin

@G_and_Thomas why does it even matter? If I want to buy a cartridge dumper and physical games to play on an emulator where a console never comes into play, that's not something Nintendo should be allowed to legislate away.

Re: Nintendo Slays Switch Emulator Ryujinx

@batmanbud2 Nintendo games don't have gameplay good enough to be worth overlooking their abysmal hardware for. I'd settle for 1080p 60fps but Nintendo doesn't want to do that either it seems. I was going to wait and see how an actual Switch 2 fairs but I'm totally against Nintendo's anti-preservation tactics.

Maybe instead of waiting for an emulator I'll just wait until the day Nintendo caves in and puts their games on PC, I have enough of a Steam backlog to last me the rest of my life.

Re: Talking Point: Would $499 Be Too Much For 'Switch 2'?

ArcticSin

I don't care what I have to pay as long as I get at least 1440p and 60fps on every game, including Nintendo's own first party releases

If I'm paying 500 bucks for the exact same experience on the switch I might as well just emulate every game I want to play

Re: Creators Of New Switch Emulator 'Suyu' Hope To Avoid Nintendo's Wrath

ArcticSin

@norwichred Yuzu was licensed under the GPL, even if Nintendo owns the code and re-licenses it, they only own the future code they develop based upon what they acquired during that time. By law Nintendo has to allow the current Yuzu code to freely exist and be freely modified and distributed as long as those modifications don't infringe on the code that Nintendo develops/owns.

Re: Denuvo's 'Switch Emulator Protection' Is Now Available Via Nintendo's Official Dev Portal

ArcticSin

This just might make me avoid the next Nintendo console altogether. Thanks for saving me money Nintendo!

Edit: before I get accused of encouraging piracy, I actually hack my own systems to rip my own games to play through emulators on my PC because it's a better experience than playing on the Switch's underpowered hardware. It's the reason I haven't played TOTK yet. If the Switch 2 can't play TOTK and future games at 60fps and at least at 1080p/1440p, or if Nintendo continues their (in my opinion) ridiculous business plan of never releasing their games on PC for those who don't want to play on their hardware, AND implement a system that prevents people from taking that endeavor into their own hands, then I have no reason to support Nintendo any further.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry's Technical Analysis Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom

ArcticSin

@Rambler A good game, movie, or album will always be more enjoyable and provide a better experience with better equipment. That's what I believe. That's why the Switch OLED is such a better experience than the standard Switch.

Tears of the Kingdom being rated 10/10 across the board is fantastic, and since Nintendo have the game and artistic aspect of perfected, it just makes me want to wait until the day comes that Nintendo releases a better console with better specs and an upgraded release of this (and BOTW) that take advantage of those specs, especially if those hypothetical versions support 1080p-4k and 60fps. Not that I can't just do things the normal people way, but if I know what I like and I have the money to spend...

Re: Video: The OneXPlayer 2 Is Very Switch-Inspired, But What Do We Make Of It?

ArcticSin

@SBandy1 what I want is for Nintendo to release a system that can run their games at (at least) 60fps and preferably above 1080p. I don't care if the Switch can't run it at those frames but I'd like Nintendo to throw those of us that want something more powerful a bone.

OR, implement current technologies such as DLSS/FSR, future AI frame generation, and VRR like freesync into their docks and displays (like the ROG Ally, and something I wish the Steam Deck had) to mitigate dissatisfaction with poor visuals and performance.

There are so many avenues for Nintendo to explore hardware and software-wise for the system itself that everyone else has already, but Nintendo just doesn't care.

Also, I got a steam deck to support Valve and the Linux community, and you can turn the refresh rate down to 40hz to make lower framerates more bearable. I mainly use it for older games and indies though I like benchmarking and writing ProtonDB compatibility reports for those who might have a steam deck as their first PC.

For actually playing games to completion I prefer playing on my main PC.

Re: Video: The OneXPlayer 2 Is Very Switch-Inspired, But What Do We Make Of It?

ArcticSin

@Cashews I gave away my Switch after Metroid Dread came out and I haven't touched a Nintendo game since...simply because I don't like playing games at below 1080p and below 60fps. If Nintendo wants to have a more powerful, dock-only Switch for the next-gen and milk the current Switch for another gen then I'm all for it, but my standards are much higher than whatever Nintendo is currently offering.

Re: Random: Valve's Latest Steam Deck Trailer Briefly Shows A Switch Emulator

ArcticSin

@Itachi2099 I don't see how expanding their market and letting people that don't want to buy their console to play their games is a fatal mistake. I never would have played Spider-Man, Horizon Zero Dawn or God of War if it wasn't for their PC ports. If Nintendo doesn't do the same well I guess they don't want my money anymore because I'm done with their hardware.
