The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have finally confirmed something that fans have been begging for. Pokémon HOME will be getting an update that will allow the most recent Pokémon games — Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Pokémon Legends: Arceus — to be compatible with the Cloud service storage app.
With Legends: Arceus being set in the past, Pokémon HOME introduces a new type of Poké Ball for the game — the Strange Ball. When Pokémon are transferred to the game from the Diamond and Pearl remakes or Pokémon Sword and Shield, they will appear in a Strange Ball, because normal Poké Balls don't exist in this time period yet! These balls will also appear in the Switch remakes, but only when you trade Pokémon from Legends: Arceus.
All of the Switch Pokémon games — including Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! — introduce new moves that aren't always available in other games, so if a move on your Pocket Monster from Arceus isn't available in Sword, for example, that move won't be transferred. Instead, the moves it can learn will be based on the level it's at when it arrives. But if you send that Pokémon back, it will go back to having all of its original moves.
You'll also get some mystery gifts when you transfer Pokémon from the new games to Pokémon HOME — a Rowlet, Cyndaquil, and Oshawott with maximum effort values on the app for Legends: Arceus transfers, and a Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup with Hidden Abilities for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl in HOME. So it's well worth doing!
Here are some more details on what this upcoming 2.0 update will offer:
Linking to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl
Players can check on the condition of Pokémon deposited from Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl to Pokémon HOME as well as their other details.
Please be cautious of the following when connecting Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl to Pokémon HOME.- Special Pokémon that can only be caught once during regular gameplay can only be deposited once per save data to Pokémon HOME.
- Some Pokémon, such as those obtained through unintended means or by illicit modification, cannot be deposited into Pokémon HOME.
- If there are any other problems with the Pokémon, it cannot be deposited into Pokémon HOME.Linking to Pokémon Legends: Arceus
You can view the effort levels of Pokémon deposited from Pokémon Legends: Arceus to Pokémon HOME as well as its other details.- The objective of Pokémon Legends: Arceus is to help compile the first Pokédex in the Hisui region. As such, the National Pokédex in Pokémon HOME will update its Pokédex entries based on your completion of the Pokédex in your Pokémon Legends: Arceus save data.
- If a Pokédex entry in Pokémon Legends: Arceus is incomplete, you will not be able to see that Pokémon’s entry in Pokémon HOME.Additional Achievements and Stickers
Players can obtain stickers by completing achievements by meeting certain conditions in the mobile device version of Pokémon HOME. New achievements and stickers based on Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond, and Pokémon Shining Pearl will be added from version 2.0.0 onwards.
We don't know the exact date for when this update drops, but The Pokemon Company has said "Players can look forward to the update in the coming weeks." So it can't be too far off! Get thinking about what you want to put into the app right now!
You can get more details on Pokémon HOME, including the upcoming update, in an update post on the official website. Hopefully, the wait will have been worth it! Share your thoughts, excitement, etc. in the usual spot!

And will paying customers be reimbursed to the sum of 6 months of their membership to make up for the fact that this functionality was not available upon launch of the associated games?
No?
Frankly, this is one of the most hideous rip-offs that Nintendo/TPCi have ever dished out. If they felt that compelled to charge money for this, it should have been included with NSO rather than requiring a separate AU$25 annual fee for what barely amounts to a “service”.
I like how it handles Pokédex integration for Legends Arceus specifically.
this is gonna be the shot in the arm I need to get back into Brilliant Diamond. it'll be great finishing that game with a bunch of overleveled Pokemon imported from Crystal Version 😎
@Silly_G why would we be? why should we be?
the subscription pays for extended use of Pokemon Home, not for guaranteed compatibility with new games on release day.
I can finally dump my new pokemon into their virtual prison!
The real problem here is Pokémon Bank.
Thanks to a series of transfers, you an still catch a Pokémon in one of the GBA games, and send it all the way to the recent games like Pokémon Sword/Shield, but not only the service will soon be out of reach, it won't be able to be downloaded anymore on the 3DS eShop, but it may close forever.
It's just like when the GBA games were released, and the Pokémon from Gen I and II couldn't be transfered and were lost, if that happens again, it will be much, much worse.
How much you want to bet that this will be the only way to get Deoxys and/or Celebi in the game?
Too little too late. As @Silly_G stated, this is something that actually should be part of NSO. The asking price is extreme, considering Box, Ranch, Bank, and any other predecessors I may be forgetting. Whole thing is an absolute shambles.
<Edit> Misread. Sorry!
IT TOOK WAY TOO LONG BUT AT LAST.
If there was ever a reason to start back up shiny hunting, this is it. I still need to evolve my shiny Qwilfish after all! I'm so excited to try and make a living dex as well, now that the Hisuian mons are getting added.
@Silly_G Or just use the free version?
This is a very much welcome update for me. I could deposit my high level team in Pokemon Home for one playthrough and then withdraw them for my next one!
This service is way, way too expensive for what it offers if you ask me. I'll never subscribe to this garbage-tier service.
Truly, if you have a NSO+EP subscription, this one should be free.
Kind of hoping that they release another Arceus update (or DLC) in conjunction with this update, though I doubt that'll happen. I wonder if you'll be able to transfer non-Hisuian versions of Pokemon with Hisuian versions into Arceus though - probably not, but would be neat to see.
@Fizza Is it possible to transfer Hisuian Pokemon to Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl...? If so, I just might get a copy of Legends Arceus soon.
@solarwolf07 : Which is what I use (on the rare occasion that I do). I was merely expressing what an awful value proposition it is for those who are paying for it. At AU$25 per annum, one would think that they would have the manpower to incorporate functionality of the latest games sooner than six whole months after the fact. It’s been so long now that it’s virtually exhausted its purpose.
@CrimsonBlack : I strongly doubt it (especially as they won’t be expanding the National Pokédex to include the Hisuian evolutions whose numbers creep into the 900 zone). I suspect that some Pokémon can be sent from BDSP to Arceus, but not in the reverse.
About time. Though from what I seem to gather from those more familiar with the behind the scenes stuff, the delay was due to the service and the Gen 4 remakes being developed on different engines.
As it's been said this update is terribly late compared to past compatibility patches but I'm still slightly annoyed with the vague "Players can look forward to the update in the coming weeks" statement, Game Freak and ILCA needs to follow Nintendo's example and give us an actual release date when the game/update is VERY close to going gold.
@CrimsonBlack: No, but the Pokemon Day trailer showed that CAN transfer Hisuian Pokemon to Scarlet/Violet when they come out.
@Silly_G: IIRC part the reason why it took so long to incorporate BDSP and Arceus to Home was largely due to BDSP being a clustercuss in terms of coding (thanks Unity engine!) and TPC not wanting to release Bank compatibility for Arceus without BDSP's.
People may say too little too late, but I say better than nothing and better late than never.
Can't wait! I'm waiting to complete the Pokedex for the remakes of Diamond and Pearl.
I can’t wait to transfer some competitive ready mons, from SwSh to BDSP the meta is just such a breath of fresh air. I do miss dynamic though.
I wonder if from Legends: Arceus if it'll transfer over the recorded heights & weights of Alpha Pokémon. That'd be a neat little touch to just add a little more to the not too good service.
@victordamazio The fact they won't be able to sell you Gen 1, Gen 2, or a Bank Subscription anymore is what makes me believe in the GB, GBC, & GBA rumors for the NSO + Expansion Pak. They effectively make Bank worthless and cut off being able to get RBY & GSC so you have to pay them $85 in subscription fees indefinitely.
wait, you can only deposit one of each legendary from BDSP, even if you have both games?

I decided to boot up Legends after making this comment and lo and behold I managed to get 4 more new ones: Abra, Mismagius, Yanma and Croagunk! All without a perfected dex entry mind you! Definitely a lot more excited to transfer these ones in than I already was.
@Silly_G, Technically you can still transfer pokemon without a paid subscription. It still sucks, but not quite as much.
Nice. I've been meaning to bring over some of my EV/IV trained mons I have in Home to do some Battle Tower runs with.
❗️I hope I can transfer a few from my BD/Arceus Save File to my 🗡 Game.
Well it's about time! Although now I have to actually go and put in the effort of finishing my shiny hunts, haha.
That said, that one anti-cheat rule about 'one per save' on special encounters really gives traders and collectors the middle finger, huh? With all the other guards - and the fact that they do very little about the blatant hacks sitting around trades at other times - this seems pretty ridiculous and strict.
I'm honestly shocked at the Arceus Legends compatibility. I figured that game would be shut out since it's so easy to catch Shinies in. Surely it won't also honor the IV system on there, because that made it sooooo easy to change IVs.
@Silly_G So when, say, the gym you go to buys new machines, would you expect a refund for all the time they didn't have those machines? Makes no sense at all.
I'm all for rigging into TPC, but those expecting a refund/free service because of the late compatibility which never had an announced date to begin with are just... lol.
By that logic I hope metroid prime 4 auto downloads free on my switch since its been delayed so much.
There was a lot of internal problems with the compatibility i heard, so i'm glad they took their time to fix it, unity engine on BDSP and legends really messed with the home format. I'd be more concerned about the future with SV, and how transfers to those games might go since they seem to be resetting movesets in home now, its likely they hard reset all movesets to start from fresh to remove any 'past exclusives'.
@Araquanid Wait... UNITY ENGINE?! 😧
Well it's about time it happened!
@Fizza One of the few Legends' Shinies I've caught as of now is also a Shiny Qwilfish too. (And an Alpha at that, which I was extra hyped to find.) But I've been waiting to Evolve it until after the Home update, to make sure I register the Shiny Form of the Hisui Qwilfish to Home. I've missed out on a few Gen 8 Shinies added to the Home Dex, and I won't let this be one of them.
@Araquanid I don't think it should be free or that I should get a refund, that's a bit out there. But it's a little ridiculous that they're charging almost 20 bucks for something that does relatively little, and is taking a real long time just to offer the bare minimum.
For that price you should at least be able to store Items and transfer them between appropriate games. Example being Sword is my main instead of Shield, but you can only get some Items in Shield. So to get those exclusive Items from Shield to Sword I either need a second Switch or a person willing and able to help trade dozens of Pokémon between multiple games. It's pretty stupid that's still the case, especially at that price.
@DJDM That'd be really interesting if they added models for Alolan & Galar Forms in Legends and Hisui Forms for BDSP alongside the Home update and made them part of the games. But that's not gonna happen, sadly. Things like Megas, Regional Forms, & newer Items would've made BDSP so much more fun, but nooo...
@victordamazio Pokemon actually confirmed that Bank will become free to use after the eShop closes. Doesn't help that anyone who doesn't have it installed already won't be able to get it, but oh well...
@shoeses I mean, I gave up any hope of BDSP being a remotely interesting remake (on the level of ORAS or HGSS) long before it came out. I did not get it, and won't be picking it up. PLA, otoh, has already pushed some fun boundaries, and given the precedent set with the free Daybreak update, I would be pretty surprised if we don't get full DLC within the next year.
@NotArmani Yea (actually idk 100% about legends but) BDSP was made in unity engine.
Pokemon usually uses a different engine (one that's not too far off from even reddit... C something, hence why battle sims are easy to make in browser). There was some issues without a doubt trying to convert literal different formats/engines to each other.
@Araquanid Huh. Well that's interesting, makes it make all the more sense imo
