Re: Every New Game In Atari 50's Final DLC Expansion Has Been Revealed

Alex79uk

Hmm, bit disappointing if I'm really honest. Absolutely loved Atari 50, without a doubt the most incredibly comprehensive retro collection ever and such a lovely package. But more arcade games, Jaguar games, Lynx games etc wouldn't have gone amiss, even Speccy ports of Atari classics would have been nice. Though it pains me to say it, most the 2600 games are utter garbage and don't get played more than a few minutes.

This isn't a criticism aimed specifically just at this DLC collection, but the three packs in general.

Re: Switch Online's Expansion Pack Promises "Excitement" In 2025

Alex79uk

I just want to see more games I actually want on the service. I realise this is a specific request, but I feel like why have we got three F-Zero GBA games when we still don't have GBA Mario Golf and Tennis? Yes I know people love F-Zero, but do we really need three of them, basically the same, instead of a more diverse range of games?

Re: Review: South Park: The Fractured But Whole (Switch)

Alex79uk

Picked this up in a sale a while back after loving Stick Of Truth, and just getting round to playing it now. It's a fun game, as was the first, but I'll admit to being a bit surprised more wasn't made of the loading times in this review. When you have Disco Elysium loading in a fraction of the time this does and the frequency by which loading screens appear, I'm finding it a bit of a distraction. It's normally just about long enough to be an annoyance in my view.

Can't wait for this. Great review and great games. Ever since first playing MvC2 on Dreamcast then going back to play the older titles I've loved this series. Not so much MvC3 onwards, but the older ones for sure. Punisher is a nice bonus, too. Always wondered why MvC was never ported to Switch but now here we are, I can finally put my PS3 to bed 😆

Re: Pillars Of Eternity Will Get No More Patches On Switch, Despite Unresolved Issues

Alex79uk

"The game runs beautifully in both docked and handheld modes with no frame rate issues or graphical downgrades to report".

From your own review. Bizarre considering the universal reports about how badly it runs on Switch. Yes, this comment is rather late to the party, but I'd been Googling about to see if the game had ever been fixed before considering a purchase. Shame, considering how well the likes of Divinity 2 and Disco Elysium run on the system.

Re: Review: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition - An Incredible Action-RPG Stands Strong On Switch

Alex79uk

I've been back and forth over getting this for Switch for ages. I originally completed the game on PS4 but never did the two DLC packs. Then when they announced the next-gen update I picked it up for £6 on Xbox Series S. Then I got a PS5 last year and bought the game again for that. I'm about 6 hours in to the PS5 version but so tempted to just bin that off and start again on Switch. The only thing stopping me is knowing I already have two other versions of the game that look so much prettier. It's really just a tradeoff between graphics and portability for me right now, and I can't make up my mind 😫

Re: 65 Switch Games You Should Pick Up In Nintendo's Blockbuster Sale (Europe)

Alex79uk

@cra1g0s There are more than a few games on the Minter collection that you'll play for a couple of minutes just to see what they're like. Realistically there are probably 7 or 8 that you'll put any time in to (although your milage may vary, of course) but those games are brilliant and the accompanying interactive documentary is really nicely done. I'm definitely pleased with the package.

Re: Review: Mario Tennis (GBC) - Camelot's Ace Little Tennis RPG Is Hard To Fault

Alex79uk

Looking forward to getting in to this after I finish the story mode on the golf game. These two sports titles have been brilliant additions to an already good service. Yes, I'd prefer it if we could just buy the games we wanted, but nobody can say you don't get your monies worth with an NSO subscription. Now if they'd just add the two Gameboy Advance golf and tennis games that would be amazing.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Shmups

Alex79uk

Replying to this year's later and nobody will see this, but out of the dozens of shmups I have on Switch one of my favourites was a 99p game, Q-Yo Blaster. Not too difficult but heaps of fun and a really nice, almost Cuphead-like, graphical style. It's always super cheap in sales, worth a look.

Re: Review: Red Dead Redemption - A Fine But No-Frills Switch Port, For A Fistful Of Dollars

Alex79uk

Great review as always, PJ. Added to my wish list as soon as it came out. If I'd not played it through again on Xbox only last year (and it looks great on the Series consoles) it would have been a day one. As it is, I'm currently replaying RDR2 and plan to pick this up to carry on the story when I'm finished. Hopefully by then it'll be at least a few quid off the asking price.

Re: Review: Quake II - Another Truly Outstanding Remaster Of An FPS Icon

Alex79uk

@russell-marlow It's fine if you don't think it deserves a 10. I think it does. If this was just original Quake II released exactly as it was back in the day, I'd be inclined to agree, but as a whole package and taking in to account value for money, I think it deserves the score it got. Like I said, it's all subjective.

Re: Review: Quake II - Another Truly Outstanding Remaster Of An FPS Icon

Alex79uk

@WaveBoy Quake actually uses the gyro in the screen itself for motion controls in handheld. I know this because gyro still works with my Hori Split Pad attached which does not have gyro. It annoys me really that if Quake can use the screen gyro why can't other games! Play Zelda with the Hori pad and gyro aiming does not work, or in most other games too.

Re: Review: Quake II - Another Truly Outstanding Remaster Of An FPS Icon

Alex79uk

@smithyo Yeah I loved Quake 2 on PS1. My friend and I would play deathmatch with a piece of cardboard taped down the middle of the TV screen so you didn't know where the other person was, except we got to know the maps so well you could still tell where they were from the tiny sliver of screen you could see under the cardboard divider. 😆

Re: Review: Arcade Paradise - An Addictive Arcade Management Sim That Proves Laundry Can Be Fun

Alex79uk

Picked this up last week in a sale for about £10 on Switch and have managed to cram about 20 hours in so far, I love it! Even doing the laundry is fun in that mindless 'watering crops in Starview Valley' kind of way. I've expanded my laundry three times and have loads of Arcade games available to play now. They're not all of the same quality but some are really fun to play. The game has a really addictive hook to it and I can't see me stopping any time soon.
