Re: Best Nintendo Switch Shmups

Alex79uk

Replying to this year's later and nobody will see this, but out of the dozens of shmups I have on Switch one of my favourites was a 99p game, Q-Yo Blaster. Not too difficult but heaps of fun and a really nice, almost Cuphead-like, graphical style. It's always super cheap in sales, worth a look.

Re: Review: Red Dead Redemption - A Fine But No-Frills Switch Port, For A Fistful Of Dollars

Great review as always, PJ. Added to my wish list as soon as it came out. If I'd not played it through again on Xbox only last year (and it looks great on the Series consoles) it would have been a day one. As it is, I'm currently replaying RDR2 and plan to pick this up to carry on the story when I'm finished. Hopefully by then it'll be at least a few quid off the asking price.

Re: Review: Quake II - Another Truly Outstanding Remaster Of An FPS Icon

Alex79uk

@russell-marlow It's fine if you don't think it deserves a 10. I think it does. If this was just original Quake II released exactly as it was back in the day, I'd be inclined to agree, but as a whole package and taking in to account value for money, I think it deserves the score it got. Like I said, it's all subjective.

@WaveBoy Quake actually uses the gyro in the screen itself for motion controls in handheld. I know this because gyro still works with my Hori Split Pad attached which does not have gyro. It annoys me really that if Quake can use the screen gyro why can't other games! Play Zelda with the Hori pad and gyro aiming does not work, or in most other games too.

@smithyo Yeah I loved Quake 2 on PS1. My friend and I would play deathmatch with a piece of cardboard taped down the middle of the TV screen so you didn't know where the other person was, except we got to know the maps so well you could still tell where they were from the tiny sliver of screen you could see under the cardboard divider. 😆

Re: Review: Arcade Paradise - An Addictive Arcade Management Sim That Proves Laundry Can Be Fun

Alex79uk

Picked this up last week in a sale for about £10 on Switch and have managed to cram about 20 hours in so far, I love it! Even doing the laundry is fun in that mindless 'watering crops in Starview Valley' kind of way. I've expanded my laundry three times and have loads of Arcade games available to play now. They're not all of the same quality but some are really fun to play. The game has a really addictive hook to it and I can't see me stopping any time soon.

Re: Review: Quake - The Definitive Version Of An Iconic, Flawless FPS

Alex79uk

Picked this up recently in a sale for about £3. I've only ever played Quake 2 before on the PS1, but this is an amazing package, especially for such a low price. I was also delighted by the fact gyro aiming still works when using my Hori Split Pad in handheld, which does not have gyro. It must be using the gyro in the screen itself which begs the question, why don't the likes of Zelda and Mario support this too instead of locking all the gyro use to the joycons.

Re: Mini Review: Rush Rally Origins - An Easygoing, Accessible Rallying Remake

Alex79uk

Stumbled across this game whilst searching for 'best rally games on Switch'. Gave the demo a quick try on Android and it seems great (aside from touch controls) so planned to pick it up on Switch. All the comments here seem to suggest the game is £4.99 though and it's not, it's £11.99 which is slightly less of an 'impulse buy' price. Added to wish list though!

Re: Review: The Last Campfire - A Refreshingly Freeform Puzzle Adventure Packed With Ideas

Alex79uk

Picked this up for a couple of quid in a Switch sale recently and absolutely loved it. The puzzles, the atmosphere, the Bjorkalike narration, it's just such a nice, relaxing game. Would recommend to anyone, but if you see it in a sale it's really a must have purchase. Haven't really seen any talk of this game online since it was released which is a shame, because it's an absolute gem and deserved more attention than it seemed to get.

Re: EA Is Bringing Another Legacy Edition Of FIFA To Nintendo Switch

Alex79uk

@NintendoWiiDS I really enjoy the NBA 2K games and play them on both Switch and PS4 - saying they have almost identical graphics is a stretch. The PS4 version looks far, far better than the Switch one, and runs at 60fps vs the Switch's 30. I genuinely think the Switch versions of those games look great, but there's no way they compare to PS4/Xbox.
