I wonder how many people who complained or disliked actually didn't buy the subscription. That's the important part, not paying for the things you don't like.
@InkIdols I'm not trying to defend myself. I don't have to, not to you. Not to Nintendo. I don't owe them anything. I'm just telling you why people are complaining about the price. Take off the fanboy goggles and maybe you'll see from other perspectives.
@InkIdols Well Nintendo's offerings have been on the paltry side lately. Mario Party superstars having less boards than average, for example. It's not a matter of "wanting it for free" it's a matter of wanting what you paid for, instead of mindlessly buying everything a company makes because you're worried the poor indie company known as Nintendo will go out of business if we don't.
That being said, I decided to take the loss this time and buy this game in the hopes that they'll make less super Mario party and more games like these.
@BlueOcean Wow I read the title and suddenly remembered my time with that game. I borrowed it from a friend and it was really fun... can't believe I completely forgot about it. Now I'm also remembering games like Vigilant 8...you just reawakened ancient sealed knowledge lol
@Mattock1987 you'll quickly find that retro gamers tend to be incredibly picky about their retro gaming experiences. Like, down to the pixel...if it's not the same as the original hardware they won't be happy.
That being said, many of them will also take the opportunity to show off their N64 collections so while I do believe that they're addressing issues as they should, they really just want another excuse to flaunt the cartridges that they've managed to amass.
Oh and I'm not taking Nintendo's side on this btw, I do in fact think it's an overpriced service...but we don't really need to hear that from these "retro gamers".
@gaga64 Well the fact that you're going to buy it anyways kind of makes your stance moot. Why would they listen if you're still going to give them money?
But yeah, you probably shouldn't play this series at all due to its notoriously rotten treatment of women. They're all almost literally just sex objects in these games.
I don't know what's worse, Nintendo thinking they can offer sub par services for the money or the fans that defend them as if they're an indie company that will go out if business if people don't buy this.
@Clyde_Radcliffe and this just circles back to my point that Nintendo fans just don't seem to care that they're being taken advantage of. Give money, consume product. Give more money, consume less product. Not really a revelation to me by this point though.
@Clyde_Radcliffe A shame there are no other options besides this expansion pack then. After experiencing it for your first time Nintendo will charge you again to play it on your next console too.
I never buy screen protectors. Then again it depends on who is handling your devices. Owned my switch since launch, not a scratch on it. Well except for the sides thanks to my dock.
@Lordplops eh I'm sure you'll keep the poor indie company afloat by buying their overpriced services.
That being said, I'm just hoping to hear about things like performance and just how much content is available. Still kinda hopefully there's one more board you can unlock.
Naming characters after developers is kinda dumb anyways. If it's a little side character that gets a minute of screen time fine...but one of your main heroes? It's like getting a tattoo of your boyfriend/girlfriend only to separate later on. Then you've got a tattoo of your ex on your body. Well, at least they learned their lesson of what could happen with ol Jessie McCree. Yessiree that name'll go down in history.
If you're charging full $60 price you should at minimum be able to get 20 hours out of the game. Games should be priced accordingly based on their length, not their brand.
I can see why Game Journalists prefer shorter games though, it's quicker to pump out reviews when the games are smaller and quicker experiences.
Also, for people saying that a game's length only serves to make it a slog, a smart game makes the content optional. See Breath of the Wild as a brilliant example. The content is there...but it's not forced on you if you just want to hit the credits.
@Ardisan Same as with any other fandom that gets big enough. The freaks are not exclusive to any one thing and you'll get weirdos for anything that's popular.
@somebread Bad examples to you perhaps but it's a fact that all of them are highly successful and have mass appeal. Korone is nearing 2 million subscribers and regularly has 10-20k people watching her streams live. Pekora was ranked in the top 5 most viewed female streamers in the world, so while you may not understand it, or even outright despise it, this is what people want to watch. Personally I only watch translated clips of the Japanese girls but I very much enjoy watching their English counterparts. They're entertainers like any other streamer out there.
@Bass_X0 the point I was trying to make was that they're playing a character. When James does AVGN he's not playing James, he's playing "The Nerd". In a similar way Korone is playing a dog girl and while it might be organic and unscripted, there are some lines they just can't cross. She has to pretend she's a dog girl, being the most important thing there. I digress though, my main point is that you're not supposed to sit there and take it seriously. Vtubers are playing a character and people like to watch this character play games, almost like an interactive cartoon or anime.
A Vtuber is no different to any other sort of streamer and it's something you'll quickly notice within just a single stream of theirs. It's no different to a Dr. Disrespect or even watching James Rolfe play the persona of the Angry Video Game Nerd or any other type of content like this. They're playing a character and people find it humorous and enjoyable, that's basically the gist of what it is.
But I guess the older you get the less patient you are to try or even understand new experiences. It's a scary and confusing world out there nowadays and it's probably best that you get in bed by 8 pm.
Have been waiting for the game to become "complete" like this before I went out and bought anything. The only DLC fighter I have is Piranha plant from when it was free.
@Varkster "This thing is wrong, so these other things must be wrong as well."
Why is it that instead of trying to fix the problem, we find other similar problems to compare it to and use it as an excuse to leave it alone? We don't want to give game developers special treatment. If you aren't being credited for your 10-12 hours of work that's on you for settling, other people shouldn't have to do the same. If they want credit i'd be more than happy to fight for them, if you want credit I'll do the same for you too. If you don't then sit down but don't tell others to sit down too.
Discussions always devolve to "It's always been broken, why fix it now!?"
@sleepinglion The controllers are actually pretty great yeah, maybe a bit overpriced for what they actually are but I did buy myself an SNES one to play games on the old emu that aren't available on the SNES collection.
@sleepinglion I think they know they can get away with it at this point. They know that those of us complaining on the internet, hitting up Twitter and the like are just the vocal minority. The masses just throw money at anything nowadays. Unfortunately for us Nintendo is never proven wrong when these things happen. I guarantee that the expansion pass will just be another huge success for them because people just don't care what they're throwing money at anymore.
@HeadPirate I dunno about you but I get a year of PS+ for like $40 a year. I never see Nintendo's online service subscription go on sale. It also come with features and services that one might expect of an online subscription apart from "play game online". When the price nears what the competition is offering, one starts to scrutinize more and more just what Nintendo brings to the table...if one is not blinded by loyalty to a company, of course.
Hmm...DLC that you can borrow. I actually think that's a first...I'm not sure I've heard of that before. Way to continue to innovate in the wrong ways Nintendo.
Very sad to see that according to the polls, even though there are a huge amount of you complaining about the price, many of you will still fork over the money for it. Why even complain about it at that point? If you're going to buy it anyways you have no right to moan about it afterwards...
@armondo36 nope, I disagree. It was fine when Nintendo was just charging $20, they could do whatever they wanted because they were "cheaper" than the competition. Now though? They're asking for nearly the same amount per year and as such must be scrutinized much more since, when you put them side by side, Nintendo pales in comparison to what the competition is offering.
I really do hope people take your last sentence to heart though. Please don't support this, for once let your wallets do the talking people.
"Why does Sony and Microsoft get to charge so much for their online services? We want free money."
"Because they actually provide messaging services, the ability to invite and proper parties all on the console without needing to use a dumb phone app?"
"Ew, who cares about all that? Just toss in some digital N64 and Genesis games that will barely cost us anything and hike up the price to $50. These suckers will buy it."
And you all will. There's no point in complaining. Nintendo fans can never stand firm on anything. You'll all buy it and make peace with it however your brains will rationalize it. It's why whenever I see Nintendo announce something, whatever it is is set in stone unlike when other companies get flak and decide to change their minds...
This is the problem. This is why people have no respect for developers. People think the game is made "by Nintendo" instead of the actual hard working "little guys" that never get any attention despite the hours of work they had put into the project to make it the game you love today.
