We're not sure why, but at the time of writing we're yet to receive the usual Nintendo Download Update news for Europe; we've enquired to see what's happening, in any case.
Yet Nintendo of Europe does have its line-up at least partially confirmed, stating on Twitter that Mario Kart Super Circuit is arriving in the region this week.
Its timing is appropriate, as we're also due to receive the Mario Kart 8 DLC Pack 2 in this week's update, with those GBA tracks mentioned in the tweet being remastered in the HD entry. This first-ever portable Mario Kart title arrived on the Wii U Virtual Console in North America last year - you can check out our Mario Kart Super Circuit review to see what we think of it.
Are you tempted to pick this up alongside the Mario Kart 8 DLC this week?

I'll pass, have it on 3DS
I have it on 3DS too but will still download it, mainly to help complete my Mario folder of VC games.
Still got my boxed launch day copy, as well as the Ambassador version, but will buy
If there is no download update today I'm gonna expect a Direct this week haha.
People in NA keep complaining how they "always get the shorter end of the stick" when it comes to VC, but then again they get a Mario Kart more than 5 months before we do. And that's just one of many examples.
Got two GBA carts so hardly need to buy again.
One more Nintendo Direct before SPLATOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON!!!
I have the GBA cart so not for me. It's a super impressive Mario Kart as far as graphics and content go, but it's not a good Mario Kart unfortunately.
No thanks.
Wil buy this ‡)
Enough Mario Kart allready!
We don't need every game in the series when there are so many other games to play...
Nah, I'll probably just stick with my GBA cart and 3DS Ambassador download. Got some new amiibo coming out this week to cost me money. Good game though, always enjoyed it.
No thanks. I don't like downloading terrible games.
Yes we do. Especially when America has it for months already now. We also need Mario Kart 64 and Mario Kart Wii to come at some point.
I already have a home console version of the game. The console I use is called, um, Game Boy Player. I would buy this if made available on 3DS as well (even though I own one due to me being an Ambassador), but as I stated elsewhere, no, I don't plan to support a home console-only GBA Virtual Console anytime soon. Nintendo, announce the GBA Virtual Console for 3DS and then we're in business.
@WalupeachyTime
It's one of the finest MK games you're talking about, watch it.
Odd. I thought it was already released.
I won't be buying this. I already have the ambassador edition on 3DS, and the graphics of Mario Kart DS on the big screen are bad enough without an increase in native resolution.
I own the cart, but I'll get this for future-proofing. It was my first MK, and for a long time it was my favourite. It might even still be my favourite as I preferred the handling of these old 2D ones.
Isn't this already on the PAL eShop??
Awesome! I've been waiting for this. Though the timing could've been better. Don't know how much MKSC I'm going to be playing once the MK8 DLC drops. Maybe releasing MKSC last week would've been ideal. Oh well. I'll buy it & then start the download of the MK8 DLC. Maybe I'll have time to play MKSC while I wait for the DLC to finish downloading?
@Bass_X0 Agreed! I want every MK game on the one console for sure! Heck, I want every first-party Nintendo game on the one console but that's a real long shot.
I'll be getting it fo sho. Maybe surprise Nintendo Direct? Until you guys get the download list, i'll be hoping on that!
Own the cart, and despite what the report says the timing is awful, with MK8 DLC 2 out the same week. So no purchase.
@outburst There's another Nintendo Direct coming up??
@FragRed
I dunno but they better push for Splatoon! It needs Splatoon-splattered Wii U bundle with an extra splattered Pro-controller for coop +amiibo.
@AlexSora89 Finest? You may consider it fine (Which I respect), but I personally can't stand the handling. It's really slippery and loose in comparison to the other games in the series. Considering that you need good handling for any racing game, Super Circuit is just rubbish by default. The only course I had any fun on was Ribbon Road.
I was really hoping for this and was perfect timing given the DLC contents, Super Circuit had so much longevity because of how difficult it was to get 3 stars on a GP (my GBA cart doesn't have the night sky intro unlocked yet). That said, I didn't expect a Nintendo Direct this week which is what no Nintendo Download confirms!
@outburst I'm hoping for DLC packs 3 and 4 confirmed for preorder with Thursday's MK8 update though more Splatoon details is a must!
This is one of the better single-player Mario Karts.
I already thought it was on the eShop,shows how much I want this game I suppose,I couldn't wait for this when it first came out but it hasn't aged well.
Great news. This is actually the only Mario Kart game I don't own in physical form so I'm definitely getting this.
@Bass_X0 And here is was thinking that i would be the only lunatic who thinks like that
@PaperMario64 I couldn't have put it better myself.
Not on the Wii U, thanks. Besides, I have it coming in the mail soon to fill in the GBA slot on my refurbished DS Phat. I think I'm gonna like it, also who else loves the Phat? ...Come on, someone out there does...
@Grumblevolcano About time eh?
@Dolphin64 the original DS served me well from 2005 to 2011.
This is the only Mario kart I have not played!
Smh, they are keep shoving these same games down our throat!
I wonder why this weeks eShop update is late.
I'm sure MK64 would be more popular. I hope we get the 60hz one when it finally arrives.
Gonna be a looooong wait for Mario Kart 64 isnt it?
@Nintenjoe64 @Angelic_Lapras_King
I'm sure they'll release it when they announce Mario Kart 8 DLC Packs 3+4 at E3 :^)
Frankly the only Mario Kart game I want from the Virtual Console is Double Dash, and maybe Mario Kart 64 (if it's the NTSC version!)
@Luneth That would be nice. Though we did also have the DS game just a few weeks ago, so they might want to slow down a little...
What same games?
@Luneth There's a reason why lots of people regard the DS Phat as their favorite. One of the reasons including extreme durability. And those commercials are done right, they make you want to buy it. And those constant grey skies in the ads are wonderful.
Oh, yeah!!
Have it on the 3ds so won't be buying on WiiU.
Missed the weekly update!
I have the Cart for my SP, and have it on my 3DS, but will still buy this. Wonder what other surprise we have install this week? (I can't believe they would delay announcing just for this game). Hopefully it will be M2 HD Classics for Wii U
I prefer larger backlit screen of my 3DS XL to play DS games.. What good is durability when the screen is crappy?
This is the worst Mario Kart besides 64, in my opinion. There were no memorable tracks or music.
We're are update Nintendo? Seriously I've waiting all day! What's big hold up?
I have the original and 3ds edition so I'll pass. Nintendo need to turn the brightness and contrast up on some of these old GBA titles.
The best single player mario kart out there.
This game is for real HardCore mario kart players.
The controls are a big wall at first, but once you master them, you see you have the tighest and best controls in any MK game.
You can do stuff you're not even supposed to do :>
This is one of the best Mario Kart games in my opinion. Some might look at it and think it a lackluster derivative of the console versions, but once you play it you will know this is just as great a Mario Kart game as any. It's absolutely brimming with content and one of the most fully realized games on the GBA system.
What I like in particular is the presentation. The GBA wasn't powerful enough to display fully rendered 3D worlds like the N64 could and instead had to rely on the classic Mode 7 technology of the original Super Mario Kart on the SNES. What they do very cleverly is taking the rendered art style of Mario Kart 64, but apply it to Super Mario Kart's flat sprite graphics. The result is a fantastic visual blend of both the game's predecessors.
Another neat feature were the retro tracks. You can unlock all of the old SNES tracks in this game, doubling the already huge amount of playable tracks. Nowadays we've come to expect a selection of old favourites in our Mario Kart games, but back in 2001 this was quite a surprise.
