Re: Yes, Link's Improved "Fast Travel" In Skyward Sword HD Really Does Seem To Be Locked Behind An amiibo

wynnwave

@Rohanrocks88 in Bowser's Fury, you can summon Bowser with a Bowser amiibo. You need him to show up to break certain blocks to get a number of the cat shines (and if you're going for all the shines, there's more toward the end that you can only get when he shows up). Without the amiibo, you just have to wait for him to eventually appear each time you need him for a particular cat shine.

Re: Analogue Explains How It's Going To Deal With Scalping Amid Concerns Over Pocket Pre-Orders

wynnwave

I managed to snag one during the initial pre-orders, but wow has it been a while since then. Really hope they don't have to delay the release date for the first run again.

As for subsequent runs, I hope they make enough that everyone who wants one can get one. Is there any reason that they can't just do an open pre-order and make them to order (like a lot of Limited Run's releases these days)? I know it would take a while before pre-orders could be fulfilled if they did it that way (certainly longer than it takes LRG to print cartridges/disks and cases), but it seems like it would solve the demand/supply issues.

Re: Is Game Freak "Recycling" 3DS Animations In Pokémon Sword And Shield On Switch?

wynnwave

I don't mind that they're re-using the models and animations they've been using since Gen 6 - I think they work fine, and re-doing them would take an immense amount of work.

But if they are indeed re-using all/most of the existing Pokemon animations, then they shouldn't be using "high-quality animations" as an excuse for not including data for all Pokemon in the game.

I understand that the game still requires a whole lot of work, and that they're likely telling the truth when they say that they simply didn't have the time/resources to get in all the Pokemon. I don't think that the devs should be working overtime to make it happen. But Pokemon is one of the biggest game franchises there is, and it's a home console game now - the higher-ups need to understand that hiring more people and allowing more development time is going to be necessary to make the game that fans want.

Including data for all existing Pokemon in the game should've been a priority, and when they realized they didn't have the time/resources for it, more should've been arranged for. Game Freak makes one of the biggest games out there, but they still operate like an indie studio - and I don't think that's sustainable.

Re: Review: LEGO Harry Potter Collection - A Wizarding Wonder That's Only Just Beginning To Show Its Age

wynnwave

@jhewitt3476 There's a large amount of new Harry Potter merchandise being released right now (particularly Lego - there are a bunch of new Harry Potter Lego sets this year, based on the original book/movie series), because of the new spin-off movies (Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them). They're attempting to do with Harry Potter what Star Wars has already done: using a new movie in the franchise, however unrelated it may be to the previous ones, as a vehicle for selling more stuff based on the older films.

Re: Guide: How Cloud Saves Work On Nintendo Switch Online

wynnwave

@LinktotheFuture I'm not sure how that would help. Even if a user chose not to use cloud saves, other players could still use them for cheating.

@Moneyjaypr7 You couldn't just move your save data to a new system using a flash drive or external hard drive?

Re: Guide: How Cloud Saves Work In Nintendo Switch Online

wynnwave

While it's annoying, I understand Nintendo's decision to not support cloud saves for Splatoon and Pokemon, due to cheating concerns. But why in the world in 1 2 Switch not supported??

Doesn't affect me personally (as I don't plan on ever getting 1 2 Switch), but I found it baffling.

Re: ESRB Ratings Reveal That Ubisoft Is Bringing Three Party Games To Nintendo Switch

wynnwave

I'm definitely interested in Wheel of Fortune, but don't really care about having a home version of Jeopardy. Would also love a version of Family Feud on the Switch at some point.

@ReaderRagfish That would be from the "Before and After" category, where the answer is two phrases that share their respective last and first word. So for that one it was "Make a funny face" and "face the music," but overlapping at the word "face." It's a weird category.

Re: Digital Foundry Takes Issue With Hyrule Warriors' Portable Performance On Switch

wynnwave

I've been playing the game a ton, and the framerate is noticeably much worse in handheld mode, though far from unplayable (it actually appears similar to the Wii U version's framerate to me, but that may be because I mostly played that game co-op, which caused a performance hit).

It's just silly to have the handheld mode render in 1080p when that extra resolution isn't causing any actual visual difference. Even if it doesn't bring the handheld mode up to 60fps, I'd really appreciate a 720p patch to bring the framerate up.

Re: Gaming Addiction Is Officially A Disorder, According To The World Health Organisation

wynnwave

My god, this comment section is a disaster zone. Two things:

1) The WHO is NOT saying that gaming is inherently bad for you. Just that, like many things, it can become an addiction. Hopefully this official classification will eventually make it easier for those who actually have a problem to find the help they need.

2) Many things can cause addiction, and some people are more susceptible to this, in general, than other people. But please do not suggest that these people just don't have enough "willpower" or don't "want to stop enough." Depression is a real mental ailment, and is not something that can be powered through. There are people close to me who suffer from depression and anxiety, and have had suicidal thoughts. They are also some of the strongest people I know. Please don't imply that them being at a higher propensity for addiction makes them weak.

Re: Random: Japan Is Getting Awesome Street Fighter Transformer Toys

wynnwave

These look neat (particularly Chun-Li and Ken), but are definitely too expensive for me.

Oh, and @Damo : the name of the Transformers line the Optimus, Hot Rod and Megatron molds are originally from is "Titans Return," not Titan Wars or Titan Returns (thought Hot Rod is actually the modified Japanese version of the mold, released under Takara-Tomy's "Legends"line). All 3 of them have the thing where their head comes off and turns into a small version of the character (their heads are also all interchangeable!).
Arcee is from the "Thrilling 30" line (and does not have the detachable head).

Re: RiME Devs Explain The Difficulty Of Porting The Game To Switch

wynnwave

@Biff_ARMStrong ...Have you seen the framerate drops that Rime has? It's not just people being picky. The framerate is below what could generally be considered acceptable.

"Rime runs at 30fps [...] throughout most of the game while docked" really means "30fps is the highest framerate Rime ever hits (and that isn't frequent)."

Re: Review: Octodad: Dadliest Catch (Switch eShop)

wynnwave

Wow, only a six? I absolutely adore this game, though I suppose I can understand how it's not for everyone. I think, for me, it's a 7 or 8.

The controls are the entire challenge of the game. While they're hard to get the hang of, they are reasonably consistent, so you slowly get better and better with them as the game goes on, which feels great.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Warriors (Switch)

wynnwave

I absolutely loved Hyrule Warriors (my first Musou game), but part of that was because of my affection for the Zelda series. I don't have the same attachment to Fire Emblem, so I'm not sure I'd enjoy this as much. Might pick it up eventually on sale.

Re: Soapbox: Playing Super Mario Sunshine Today Painfully Illustrates Nintendo's 3D Evolution

wynnwave

I had this game as a kid, but sold it. Recently, still having fond memories of it (despite never finishing it), I picked it up at a flea market, eager to try it out again.

I sold it again a week later.

I completely agree with everything you said about the controls. And it's frustrating, because I LOVE Sunshine's aesthetic, how different it is, and the idea behind the FLUDD mechanics. There's some sections that are genuinely completely fun to play. But the entire game is just brought down by slippery, imprecise controls.

Re: Pelda Pro Switch Case Aims To Make Your Dock Redundant

wynnwave

I know they're just mockup images and such, but it is just a little concerning that some of their graphics seems to show a lack of understanding as to how the Switch works (namely, they show the handheld screen being turned on while the system is connected to a TV).

I also have to wonder how exactly that HDMI-out works. My understanding is that the Switch will only enter "docked" mode if it recognizes sufficient power input from the dock: does this mean that the HDMI output from this case will only work while the battery pack has a charge (or while the system is plugged in), so the Switch is detecting power input?

Re: Review: Namco Museum (Switch eShop)

wynnwave

I'll probably pick this up at some point, but I would really prefer a physical version. I'm also a bit disappointed by the lack of the Arrangement versions of DigDug and Galaga (which are still my favorite games from Namco Museum on the Gamecube).

The inclusion of Pac-Man Vs. is cool, but I don't have 2 Switches, and I recently picked up the original Gamecube disc for about $3.

Re: Shantae: Half-Genie Hero Shimmies Onto Switch On 8th June

wynnwave

I really want to play this on my Switch, but I backed the Kickstarter for the Wii U version, so I'll be getting all the DLC for free on that version... Wish there was a way to transfer my free Kickstarter DLC to the Switch version, but Wayforward recently stated that the Kickstarter DLC codes can't be changed to a different platform.

Re: Review: Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

wynnwave

@AcridSkull I don't think Nintendo ever officially stated that, but with the next main-series FE game being developed for Switch (and intended to release in 2018), I think it's safe to assume that we won't be seeing another main-series FE title on 3DS.

Re: My Nintendo Beefs Up With Street Fighter Discounts in North America and Europe

wynnwave

@Whopper744 I'm not really an expert either, but from what I've heard (you may want to double-check these):

-2 new characters (evil recolored versions of Ryu and Ken, but have some new/different moves)
-Some rebalancing
-2-player co-op arcade mode
-First-person, motion controlled game mode
-Optional touchscreen shortcut buttons for complex combos

Plus, of course, the new graphics.
