Well, they can still do, i.e. Ice temple made by crystals, fire dungeon with rocks too hot to touch, slippery rocks, rooms with ceilings, doors blocking entries, spikes/traps blocking your way etc.

@MrBlacky of course dungeons would work.
The boss stages were a sort of dungeons if you think about it and they worked just fine.
Nintendo just need to give them a more 'classic' feeling.

It would be nice to have BoTW 2 for Xmas season.
Hopefully Nintendo will bring back the classic dungeons.

What's shocking is that there are no games from Nintendo in August and nothing announced for September yet.
Only a remastered game from an IP that is good but not the best for an October release.
On the top of all that, we are very close to the festive season and there are no news about what Nintendo has for November and December.
Meanwhile, MS and Sony are releasing their next gen consoles.
Nintendo needs to wake up quickly if they want to grab people's attention and keep the hype for their games until Xmas.

Hopefully it's true and November is not so far away so the wait won't be long.

I'm having a lot of fun with Burnout Paradise (never played before) and having NFS available will be great to have in my collection.
Arcade racing games are lacking on the platform so more options are always welcome.

I think this trend will stop as soon as the next generation arrives.
Unless Nintendo has something really big to announce for the festive season, their sales will have a big drop.

I wonder if NL is not going to talk about the new GI Joe game announced a couple of days ago?
Or AVICII Invector game that was announced on Nintendo of America Twitter page?
That would certainly be more interesting than this kind of article.

@NorwegianMate yes, normally I'd go for the physical version but sometimes the digital deal is unmissable 😁
I've got recently the two rally games digitally as they had, each, a discount of around 80% if I remember well.
For that kind of price you can't go wrong.

Also, I don't remember seeing this game below 20% off so, at 50% it would be already good.
I was also trying to find the physical copy of it but for some weird reason it's very expensive.

For someone that grew up playing International Super Star Soccer, I'd love to see PS available.
If they can deliver it properly on the Switch I'm sure they can do better than Fifa in its current state.

Played the demo and saw people playing it in the Arcades in Japan.
Loved the style and have been waiting for a discount for ages but it seems that it's never more than 20% off.

@Reprise I'm with you there even though I got AC for my daughter to play.
What Ive been doing these past months is to try to catch up with some backlog but also got a few games that never played before like Crysis and Call for Juarez.
Both great games. Also, just bought Burnout Paradise that dropped the price to 25€ on Amazon and it should arrive soon.
Again, never had the chance to play that and it's a genre lacking on the Switch.
It's a shame that Nintendo didn't present any games for August and September (yet) .
I also find appalling that instead of releasing the 4th entry of Pikimin they had the audacity to announce the port of the 3rd one.
The 4th game was announced ages ago so it's hard to accept this move from them.

Finished Crysis recently and just started Call for Juarez.
What a great surprise that game is. I've bought it when it was discounted and just now had a chance to play it.
Great gameplay and story, highly recommended.

Wow, Ninty is going full price as expected.
It's not very nice the fact that it's been announced the 4th game ages ago and they decide to release a port from WiiU.
I might be wrong but the extras added are not so great and don't justify the price.
It would be a better announcement if it was for the new entry.
As it is I'll be skipping this one.

AC is a big IP and didn't have any proper competitor game from Nintendo in the first 7 months of 2020.
And still not having it for the foreseeable future.

Are they new Switch players?
Are they current Switch owners buying games that they didn't have before? Etc.
You and a few other people said here that X, Y and Z games are being purchased by new Switch players.
What I am saying saying is that nobody has a link to a research proving it.
I can also look at the top 40 and say that the people buying are currently Nintendo Switch players without any new options so they are buying old games not owned yet.
However, I can't prove that the same way nobody proved to me that these sales are generated by new Switch owners.

@Batty5 yeah, you can say that I'm not happy with the games released so far but what I said on my first comment was an opinion based on the fact that Nintendo didn't release any 'new' games that could potentially compete with AC. As far as I can remember only AC, the board game collection and Paper Mario are really new games. So out of 7 months we had only 3 new games and that's being generous with the board game one.
All the other comments after that were responses based on the replies I received from people 'guessing' what people were buying but nobody showed me a link proving their points (facts).

@Cyrax77 probably not, I think Nintendo didn't release 2x big franchises in one semester (I might be wrong though).
But I think that IF there were more options, perhaps the AC sales would not be as great.
Also there is the lockdown situation that certainly helped.
At home, for instance, my daughter (9 years old) asked me to buy it for her after seeing the ad on the TV.
I bought it because of the lockdown situation but this kind of request is something that she normally doesn't do, usually I'm the one introducing her to games so my case was one of the lockdown ones as I only got it for her because she couldn't get out to see her friends.
Having played AC myself, I don't see me buying it again as it doesn't appeal to me.
My point is: wouldn't people buy something different if they had the option?
Perhaps not to beat AC sales but enough to make a dent over the months?

@nhSnork if you followed the discussion after my initial post you will see that we touched the point you make.
And just a FYI, my first comment is talking about in general - no other big hits released to challenge AC - not specifically about any type of user.
In regards to the users, that can apply to the other side of the spectrum as well so the same way that there are users on the situation you described there are others up to date with the their games and waiting for new stuff.
Heck, you can see some of them commenting here even.

Personally I think it's soon to say that AC will be a MK8 style of game, meaning, that will keep appearing on the charts for years.
And no doubt that there are plenty of options to please many gamers but I don't think this changes my point of the lack of new games from Nintendo.
You also mentioned that, partially, these are new Switch owners so they'd buy AC but if that's the case then we probably would also see other older games on the chart (ie. Mario Odissey, Zelda, Splatoon etc). These are new games for the owners right?

@TheFullAndy AC, as I said, it's a big IP and certainly had benefited from the current world situation. It's a phenomenon as you say.
However, this doesn't exclude the fact that in 2020 we didn't have many new games from Nintendo that would be strong enough to persuade people to buy them instead of AC.

Well, you can say that AC is selling so well because it's a big IP but, also, because there isn't many other options from Nintendo in the past 8 months.

I'd prefer to see a complete new entry.
Perhaps with Fox's father and his team?
They could tell the story of the betrayal. It would be very interesting.
Also, they should definitely create sections of a 3rd person shooter where you can play with other team members and use their abilities to infiltrate places etc.
Nintendo should also get some ideas from Starlink and improve upon it.

Golf and maybe WWE.
So far August and September are not looking great and nothing from Nintendo...

Playing Crysis currently and plan to get Burnout Paradise soon.

I can only say that I'm having a lot of fun playing this game for the first time.
At the moment I've only been able to play it in handheld mode and the game runs absolutely fine.
Highly recommended for anyone that likes FPS games.

For me it's simple. As this is pretty much the 2018 game (that I have) I'll keep playing that until a true update arrives on the Switch.
Until then, EA won't see my money.
And, at this point, I could not care less about the cover.

Never had the chance to play it before.

My only hope from that list are from Bandai Namco, Bethesda, Electronic Arts, Koch Media, Sega Europe.

Bethesda on a release date for Doom Eternal.
EA on the list of missing games they said they have planned.
Sega on anything 😂
Bamco and Koch on new releases for the Switch.

Also, some games from smaller developers.

That will be very interesting and makes us wonder what Nintendo might be planning for Mario's anniversary.
What I hope is that not only some Remasters but also new entries for Mario games (ie. Mario Golf, Strikers etc).
I also hope that this will not mean the second half of the year with Mario games only.
As much as I have fun and like the IP we need to have variety of IPs.

This is looking good. I'll get it if it runs nicely.
