I've just been sitting in the River part of the Drablands for the past half hour, waiting for someone to play with. I was really hoping they'd give the option for Worldwide matchmaking, because it sucks being in NZ and waiting for (I assume) EU players who are all snoozing in their beds.
@Spoony_Tech @zeppray You're getting more content, so you pay more money, isn't that how things should work? At least until the full game's out and they can start putting it on sale. Makes sense to me!
This actually makes me kind of furious. I had a lot of goodwill towards Nicalis in the early days, even when others were accusing them of some shady practice. I put off getting Rebirth for my US PS4 because I wanted to support my EU Wii U, and it took months to get here. And now if I want the expansion I have to buy the whole game again on a different console. Absolutely lame of them to wait until it's out on everything to announce that the expansions aren't going to work on it. Get your crap together Nicalis, god darn it.
All of y'all neverheards, go check out "The Mother We Share", that was Chvrches' big single a couple of years ago. As for DeadMau5, I always loved his song that was in the nightclub in the Goldeneye remake, "I Remember".
I saw Chi-vurches live and found them super-disappointing, and I don't know how great it would be seeing Deadmao-five live either, considering he's just standing there pressing play.
Weirdly enough, I love both of their music, it's just... not that performable I guess.
@SamirMalik That totally makes sense. I suppose for me, the alienation is coming from the fact that despite references to both series, SMT x FE actually doesn't share many mechanics from the previous games. I guess it is closer to SMT's battles, but as a whole the game just seems super-removed from both series.
(Having said that, the Persona vibes in the art style are strong!)
@Level99Studios
Thanks for helping with that. It's still a bit strange that it seems (although unconfirmed afaik) that the US will have physical releases of two FE:Fates paths and the UK, only one. Just seems that there's a lot of general uncertainty that needs to be cleared up by a scarily-silent Nintendo. Most folks are not as clued up as you are!
@MitchVogel It doesn't look very much like Shin Megami Tensei to me either, and I am a fan of that series, ha.
Even with Fates, I'm still confused though. From what we can tell, the UK version is only coming in one edition, but we don't know if that means we have to pay for the other storyline as DLC, and then there's the neutral third storyline but how on earth do you acquire that?! The whole thing has just been poorly communicated so far by Nintendo. It's weird.
I think Virt is great, but Shovel Knight's music probably annoyed me more than any game I've ever played. It was just so fast. Felt like it was mocking me, just being annoying for the sake of it. I desperately wanted an option to turn the speed of the music down.
I'm not sure if it's worth scoffing at Mr Itagaki just yet. The demo shown at last year's E3 treehouse is played so differently to the video previews that have been coming out. NintendoLife's video was almost all running, shooting and melee. There are so many moves in last year's videos, with the most obvious being weapon-throwing. I didn't see any of that in recent previews. Has it been taken out of the game? Or are reviewers brute-forcing their way through a game that's meant to be played with finesse?
Hard to tell right now, but amazing action games sure have been written off as being bad, or too difficult before due to a reviewer's lack of skill. (God Hand, Wonderful 101)
I'd like to keep getting characters for Smash, but I find the costumes for Mii Fighters a little weird. I'd pay if they made them available to be used on other characters as well, but Mii Fighters aren't even used online - they're not really used by anyone, are they?
I would say that they would be publishing to both 3DS and smartphones if they were designing it to be like the last one. The fact it's on smartphones says to me that it's going to be very microtransaction-based, and that's not going to fit so well on 3DS as a retail title.
I've been itching to try this series for ages now, but it never seems to drop in price. It's still NZ$90 most places I've seen it. Maybe this will be the version that does it for me.
I'm really wishing more of these games would come to EU/AUS/NZ. Neither GetClose or SportsBall has made it over here, along with a huge list of others.
I'm really wishing more of these games would come to EU/AUS/NZ. Neither GetClose or SportsBall has made it over here, along with a huge list of others.
My Club Nintendo card for Smash Wii U was taken out of its case before I bought it, and I didn't realise until I'd already gotten home with it. Missed out on the soundtrack AND the free Mewtwo!
Is there anything to say it's the real Retro? None of the Nintendo accounts are following them, from what I can see... And they seem to be tweeting at people (70-something times as I'm typing this) far more than professional Nintendo-related accounts seem to do.
Well, kind of a PR master stroke for Nintendo, making everyone this hungry for it for this many hours. People are paying for the demo! I've still not managed to get my hands on one though, if anyone has a spare EU code I would love it.
Um, why don't they slow down the rate at which they're being released if they want them to sell better?
All the Picross games being released in such a short space of time makes sense to me, because it's kinda been like one retail game split across four smaller digital versions. But what am I supposed to do with all these Denpa Men?!
I just can't see why it isn't obvious to have somewhere players can seek help if they need it, but only give it to them if they ask for it. Sometimes it's useful to get a reminder from Fi as to where to go next. But when she just won't let me play, and it carries on through as much of the game as I was willing to put time into... it's not so good.
Sadly, it looks like that little boy died a week ago, according to the UPDATE at the bottom of the Go Fund Me page. The funds are now going towards finding new accomodation for his family...
@Yorumi Ok homie! I'm telling you it's not attacking a group of people, it's criticising individuals, because I don't believe it's ok to attack a whole group either! But if you read my words and hear the opposite of what I'm trying to say then I can't help. I hope you enjoy what you are playing!
EDIT: Just a quick edit, when you say it's not ok to criticise other groups, how do you feel about a group criticising everyone else? For example certain Christians preaching that non-believers are going to H-E-double-hockey-sticks, or that people who don't fit heteronormative gender roles are performing evil acts? That's what I would equate your analogies to, rather than racism. Criticising the actions of someone who acts out of accordance to a belief is not the same thing as attacking someone who is born of a certain skin colour, or gender persuasion.
@Yorumi No, sorry, that wasn't what I meant at all, but I can see how the first part was unclear. I was brought up in the church because my parents baptised me and took me with them. But at a certain point, you make your own decision, whether that's to keep going with them or not to go anymore. I just meant that I was at an age where I was ALLOWED to make that decision, not that people who choose to go to church are not making one. If that makes sense?
Your other problem is something I am not saying at all, I'm saying the opposite: It's not attacking a group, but the tendancy for some individuals to turn something beautiful (I do believe Christianity is a beautiful thing, despite not being a believer) into something hateful.
@gridatttack I understand what you're saying. I do think there is something important in the crudeness of it, but I also understand that Edmund McMillen also just likes gross things, so I can see why you might find it distasteful.
@Yorumi @Gridatttack I understand where you're coming from. The game has a whole bunch of adult themes, and in crossing them with your faith, it is apparently crossing a line. If the game was only setting out to make fun of Christianity, I don't think I would have enjoyed it nearly as much.
It's actually a very personal game to Edmund McMillen, and it touches upon a whole lot of themes that I grapple with myself, as someone who was brought up in the church, and then left it when I was old enough to make my own decisions. To many, many people who have struggled with the ideas in the game, I think it comes as a great solace to experience the ideas of someone feeling similarly.
Even though the imagery is a corrupted version of things you consider sacred, the way it's presented is really in the sense that Isaac's mother is actually the one corrupting it. She's the one misinterpreting the bible, using it for violent ways, being an incredible hypocrite and ultimately being led by the devil. McMillen is saying, to me, that people like Isaac's mother are the ones who have done this. And those people sure are out there in full force, who have more hate in their heart than love.
So it's much more subtle than simply ragging on a particular faith, it's really criticising people who are Doing it Wrong.
Oh man, I don't know if I can pick up that Harvest Moon game. The hours I spent as a kid trying to woo Nina (unsuccessfully, I might add)... It gets pretty tedious going through the daily chores if I remember rightly.

@DerpSandwich Ah, man, I don't think Sticker Star was any more dumbed down than Super Paper Mario. Surely it's a bit pointless reviewing Yoshi as you did last week when it was reviewed for 3DS only last year (or the year before maybe?)... Same goes with the Mario Bros game. How is it going to be any different to the Wii VC version at all?
@element187 Well no, when they made the 3DS game, all the models that they made were already at that quality, and then they scale it back to get it on 3DS. That's how pretty much everyone works. They'll be using a slightly modified version of the engine from 3D Land. That takes a whole lot of the work out of it.
Development on 3D Land also started a long time before that came out, so the assets have been floating around for a long time!
Circle need to either stop putting out so many games and start working on fewer games with better quality, or have their damn eShop licence taken away. This game is brilliant, and they've gone and ruined it.
Lets Play videos are already such a good source of advertising, it seems a bit petty to take money for them as well. I wonder how many people watch a Let's Play, then go out and buy the game.
The other thing is, the people who DO make money off it aren't making the money because of the game they're playing. The YogsCast guys (I think that's what they're called) who were a huge help towards Minecraft getting so big, are popular because of their personalities and comedy, not just because people like watching them play games.
@Smithereens does that mean my above issue is not an issue? if the appeal of your let's play for viewers is your own commentary, will Nintendo not profit from that? if so, then I guess I'm ok with it...?
I think he's a bad guy! Sure he acts nice, acts like he's your friend, gives you a place to help you get on your feet... But just as you get your final repayments made, BAM, he sneaks over to your house and adds an extra floor you didn't want or need. "That'll be $160 000. What do you mean you don't have it on you?"
He might not be charging interest, but someone who makes (quite frankly shoddy) renovations on someone's house without their consent is certainly not doing it without taking some kind of cut. We don't know there's no handling fee in amongst all that!
