@Zyph The new one's a "spiritual successor" to the game. So maybe they'll licence the sanity meter from Nintendo (which Nintendo has patented), but they can't call it an Eternal Darkness game. So they can pop it on whichever consoles they choose!
@KenB New Zealand has a separate rating system. and yeah, for plenty of small devs on a small game, they're not going to make that money back. not the with the small number of 3DS's and Wii Us floating around Aus/NZ
Don't the 30c games run out, after which time you can buy them for a slightly discounted price? that's the sense i got after the nintendo direct where they announced them...
Why has this been published on NintendoLife? It's completely irrelevant to videogames, as the comment section proves. The name "Nintendo Medal" is totally arbitrary, and could as easily have been the Playstation Medal or Xbox Medal.
This is not even about the fact that it's called the Nintendo Medal. It's about politics within the military. Unless Nintendo comments on the nickname, it's irrelevant, and even then it would only be tangentially relevant. Really disappointed in NintendoLife for publishing this.
I don't see why it couldn't work. The setting is not what makes Fire Emblem shine, not by any stretch of the imagination. Look at the transition from Civilization to Alpha Centauri, or more aptly, Warhammer to Warhammer 40000, a series that's gone on to far outperform the original.
As long as the fundamentals were kept in tact, (turn-based, tactical gameplay, many characters who can all die permanently, story full of political intrigue etc) the game would still feel like Fire Emblem, regardless of when and where it's set. Wow, the idea of playing Fire Emblem set in real-life cities is almost too much for me.
Man, I thought that bat was perfect for what it was functioning as, mechanically. It worked, but still made you feel powerless. Like every smack was a desperate one.
That made it worthwhile scrounging for bullets. They weren't actually that scarce if you kept searching. I think if they added a wider range of melee weapons they'd run the risk of confusing what the game is about. It's not about being a total baddonkey . Then again, the wide range of contradictory reviews kinda suggests that that was the case anyway.
Disney messed it up themselves then, by making sure both games came out really quickly. The developer of the 3DS game hinted that Disney had actually made them cut the game short to get it out on time. Couple that with the fact that the game was announced and then released with very little fanfare, and it's surprising that Disney would even expect good sales.
Uhh... Romino is so good. Why are they letting CIRCLE touch their stuff...?
Edit: That same interview featured this quote:
"This is how we assign our staff on each project: 1 + 1/3 + 1/3. That is, one programmer who works full-time on a single project, along with one artist and one planner who both handle three projects simultaneously. "
Maybe someone needs to tell them that having 12 projects on the go for a 21 person company is just not the best way to be doing it...
Yeah, what terrible timing. Surely they could have at least let them MAKE a mobile game... Well here's hoping they get together and go indie, those guys are talented and can do great things with enough time and money. I'd help kickstart the heck out of anything they tried to do.
Nice mention of the overwrought writing. It really irks me, and I've hardly seen anyone mention it. Also a heck of a lot of f-bombs compared to the last one, seems a bit overdone. Maybe it's appropriate considering the horror setting, but then so much of the dialogue's also light and silly. Still enjoying it though!
For anyone in New Zealand, the best deal I've found for Wii U so far has been from The Warehouse: Premium bundle + NSMB U for $568. It's advertised as $595, but I asked about the difference on the website and they said the lower price is correct. Also apparently Noel Leeming has NSMB for free with the Premium...
Stores open in NZ in about 9 hours. I cancelled my EB order today because they have no special bundles, like the free Mario U available with the Premium offered elsewhere. Hope I can still get it!
Sad for Nnooo, those guys seem great, and I loved EscapeVektor. But massive kudos to Nintendo Life for being upfront and saying you didn't like it when they gave you so many exclusives on the game. I'm sure nobody's crowing about this review on either side. I'll still get it to support the team, I guess. Looking forward to EscapeVektor on 3DS!
The tutorial for Skullgirls on 360 taught me so many basic things that I just didn't realise from playing Capcom's games. It would be a great place for them to start. It introduces concepts and terminology that you can only learn about in Street Fighter or MvC by trawling through screeds of fan-written information.
I would hesitantly suggest that Renegade Kid only ported the game across. It doesn't feel like one of their games. Their stuff often lacks a bit of polish but usually makes up for it in creativity, and this game has neither.
Jeez, they really nailed the feeling of grinding for the player though; I felt like the game was a grind from the second quest! Well done!
It is a very good game. The dev deserves a lot of attention (and money), in my opinion. A look at the Go Go Kokopolo twitter suggests this is not the case.
Man, this is why I love Nintendo. Seems like a cheap and nasty cash-in, except... who on earth actually wants this??? They just DO things, and I don't know why, and it makes me so happy.
They're also so indiscriminate about the order they deliver their information in. Freakyforms Deluxe sitting up there with their big franchises made me smile, as did the length Iwata went to in the previous N.Direct to explain the WiiU media player's curtain as a major feature.
I've ordered Heroes of Ruin, but I don't think it's shipped yet, and the game doesn't release till next week. Still, anyone who wants to add me is more than welcome! I have a distinct lack of gaming friends to play through it with.
4382 - 1995 - 7502. My Mii's the beardy glasses boy. Let me know if you add me.
i love these things. They go such a long way to making Nintendo feel like less of a company with steel walls and more like a friend I want to throw money at.
I don't mind the control scheme at all, except that my hands are just too big for the 3DS in general. The CCP was a godsend for me, giving me something chunkier to wrap my fingers around. I even use it playing Professor Layton.
The ONLY thing I desperately want is for the larger left trigger to work as shoot when the CCP is attached. It still cramps my fingers having shoot so close to the circle pad!
EDIT: OH! IT DOES! If you use the CCP, and under controls, put attacks as the RIGHT trigger, it also makes the LZ button work for attacks! I AM SO STOKED.
The ridiculous thing about how badly this game does outside of Japan is that it's really not a game for football lovers at all. It reminds me more of something like Dragonball-Z, with its over-the-top villains and ridiculously powered up energy attacks.
I'd say that if you're someone who doesn't just play Professor Layton for the puzzles, you can understand how you could love Inazuma Eleven without necessarily enjoying football.
@RR529 I've actually just bought four of the Marvel tables on 360. Cunningly enough, they separate the Spiderman and X-Men ones into two different DLC packs. I've never even heard of most of the other comics (I am ashamed), but their tables are so good it makes me want to check them out!
Zen made eight Marvel tables, if I remember correctly. I wonder which of those they'll be putting across to the 3DS version. Or maybe they'll go with four to start with, with the other four for DLC. Ah, pointless speculation...
@OldBoy Why not shop online? I didn't realise you were actually giving them MONEY as well as wanting them to fail. Seems a bit ironic. If enough people refuse to shop there, they'll be forced to change their policies. So find an alternative. But don't wish so many people out of jobs. It's not the fault of the guy or girl behind the counter that you don't like the way their bosses run their company.
(Btw, if "the fall of GAME" occurs and you literally have nowhere else to go for your gaming "needs"... you'll really be screwed.)
@Linkstrikesback I get all that. I just don't think the pricing issue is entirely just because GAME likes sucking in stupid people and not caring if smart people go elsewhere.
I just say this having worked in what is probably the music store equivalent of GAME. The bigger stores that made all their money selling audio equipment and computers could afford to get people in there by selling cheap cds, which they don't really make a profit on (see PC World in 123akis's comment). But it works in their favour because a) they're getting people away from us, and b) they're getting people into their store who might happen to buy some of the stuff they do make a profit on. We couldn't do that because we ONLY sold music and books. GAME just sells games.
I'm not really standing up for them at all, just suggesting to OldBoy that the situation wouldn't really change in terms of pricing if GAME closed and made way for indie stores. The indie stores would be in the same boat, price-wise, even if they had a range of more obscure titles.
Just out of curiosity, what is the cheapest place to get games in the UK? My girlfriend's over there at the moment and I'd like to send her a 3DS and a few games. I am also very poor.
@OldBoy Some little indie retailer might stock a wider variety of games, but they sure as hell won't be able to afford selling them at low prices. It's not necessarily (ENTIRELY) greed that keeps GAME selling at those prices.
EDIT: That is, competitive prices tend to be offered by huge stores, particularly online ones which barely have any overheads. They don't just sell games, and can rely on selling ridiculous amounts of anything, so they can sell closer to cost price!
Hm. I'm in NZ and can't download them yet. Under "Titles You've Downloaded", there are a whole lot of new spaces, but they're all blank, and the ones that say "Redownload" just give error messages when I try to select them. Ah well, can't be long!
