Re: Chess Knights: Shinobi Is Making Its Move On Switch Soon

I played a decent amount of chess when I was younger, but once I was beating my dad every game, he refused to play with me anymore and I haven't really touched the game in a couple years. So hey, might check this out, I can think of worse ways to get back into the game

@__jamiie I'm saying that people don't have to be hostile about it. You're treating these people like they've murdered your family because they've chosen a different way to enjoy their media. I'm all for discussing this: I admit it's a move that rubs people the wrong way but personally it doesn't affect anything to me, because I still get to enjoy the game. There's the opinion. And at no point there does anyone get thrown under the bus or berated because of personal preference that doesn't affect me.

Can everyone chill out?! You do realise you can appreciate games in a digital form too, not just with a box! And also that stuff digital isn't gonna be our repentance to save our poor souls? You do you if you're gonna self-impose arbitrary price caps on what you buy digitally, but that doesn't mean other people are bad for... buying digital. And physical collections can be valuable too - collectors aren't bad either!! It is sad for people who have extensive physical collections, but surely the main thing is experiencing the game? Not berating how people choose to... enjoy the game? CHILL PEOPLE

@BabyYoda71 SCRATCH!!!! That's a throwback!!! I remember playing around with that a bunch in secondary school, making a whole bunch of stuff on there. None of it was particularly good, but my god was that fun. I kinda dropped programming after then; had a course in my first year of uni using MATLAB where I made a couple simple functions before I dropped out. Tried picking up Python back last March but I really wasn't in the headspace for it. Scratch was soooo wonderful

Re: Epic Apparently Wanted First-Party Exclusives From Nintendo, Microsoft And Sony On Its Digital Storefront

So would these have been exclusives to Epic and Storefront? I doubt any of them would make games they couldn't sell on their own consoles. And exclusives push people to buy the consoles - who bought a Switch saying "Doom and old Fifa are great, who on earth are Mario, Zelda and Isabelle?" Good exclusives sell consoles- BOTW and ACNH are why people buy switches. Sorry Epic... you tried

Re: Soapbox: Is It Time For Game Rental Stores To Return?

I guess we also have demos nowadays for certain games, which can somewhat satisfy the "try-it" nature of a rental, the caveat being that only some games have them. Their digital nature does also allow them to reach more people. But I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that demos are detrimental to sales - people who would've tried BotW or RDR2 because of the positive press wouldnt have spared their money if they didn't like a demo for it, and Balan Wonderworld... Balan Wonderworld. So it doesn't seem like something game companies themselves would be willing to support. And the restriction to physical media leaves out a lot of indie games. I see no real way that this can happen. Whether it'd be good or not - I grew up at the end of Blockbuster's life so I don't have any real nostalgia there anyway, so...

@FargusPelagius Those dogfights were fun, I agree, which makes me really wish it had an online multiplayer mode with dogfighting with other people online. It would also make up for the game's ridiculously short length, and I never found it too compelling to replay. I did enjoy it though, even if pressing minus to switch the views doesn't completely remedy the problem of having an inaccurate crosshair on the TV.
