Abzu, one of the Switch eShop's more unique experiences, is being treated to a new physical edition release thanks to Super Rare Games.
Super Rare's partnership with publisher 505 Games will see Abzu launch in physical form for the first time on Nintendo's platform. Only 5,000 copies will ever be printed, and these will go on sale on 29th April at 6pm BST (so that's 10am PT / 1pm ET). Orders can be made at that time on the store's website.
As is the norm for any Super Rare Games release, your purchase will include all of the game's current content on the cartridge, a full-colour manual, interior artwork, an exclusive sticker, and three trading cards. 2,000 of the 5,000 copies will also include a SteelBook case and slipcover.
Abzu's a beautiful, slow-paced adventure that puts a focus on simply seeing and exploring rather than achieving goals. We gave it a glowing recommendation in our review but appreciated that it might not be for everybody, so make sure to give that a read to see whether or not it suits your tastes.
Will you be picking up this latest physical Switch release? Let us know in the usual place.

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO swimming
Abzu is the perfect argument for digital distribution. It isn't long enough or deep enough to warrant a physical release. Can be finished in a few hours and, when it's done, it's done.
Good news for those of you who refuse to go near a game unless it comes in a box with a ribbon. I snatched this one up from the eShop for about 99p if I remember, which I definitely can not complain about. Must say the box art looks good
Is it worth playing? I got it free on the Epic Games launcher last year, but haven't touched it.
@Low_ink It looks pretty, but I just couldn’t get into it to be honest and so I deleted it, but know it’s there if I ever want to give it another chance 👍🏻
@Low_ink simply, no
This completely slipped my attention upon its release nearly two and a half years ago, but it looks good, doesn't appear to be drawn out, and may scratch that Endless Ocean itch.
I'm keen. I'll also consider the steelbook edition provided that the mark-up isn't ridiculous (as it was for the World of Goo bundle).
@Low_ink I enjoyed it. But I should mention that I first tried it on PS4 and was disappointed with the frame rate and dropped it pretty quickly. Then I bought it super cheap on Switch and it somehow clicked. It has some good music and cool atmospheres and places in it. I like the swimming controls and just found it to be a warm surprise, a fun experience. At moments it even came close to the fun and wonder I experienced playing Journey (one of my favorite games). It is really a 2 hour experience, just so you know.
@60frames-please Considering I got it for free on pc, it should look and run fine! I may check it out this weekend, thanks!
Update: no longer available
Note to all, this is also currently free on PS4 as part of Play At Home.
@Low_ink Yeah, I want to play it on my new laptop. I couldn't get a non-scalper PS5 or Xbox Series X, so I bought a nice little 3060 laptop. Abzu at 144 fps sounds lovely! I really hope Nintendo includes support for higher frame rates with the revised Switch or whatever it is that's coming out, supposedly.
@60frames-please 60 fps BOTW sounds great! Lets hope they make the hardware powerful enough!
I picked this up in a sale. Was 99p I think. Definitely worth it at that price
It's a lovely game but I couldn't justify a purchase again, have it on switch and Xbox already. I'd go back to it occasionally for a look around but not enough to shell out that much. Worth a look for something different and relaxing, if short.
Got this free from Sony's Play@Home initiative.
Thanks Sony for doing what Nintendon't.😜
This article is a little redundant, NintendoLife already made an article of physical Abzu on Switch last Friday. Oh well, at least it’s not as excessive as the “Mario dies on March 31st” articles.

I liked the game - but couldn't play it long due to it being hard on my motion sickness.
I'd really like another Endless Ocean - those games were so fun and relaxing - and never made me sick!
Fair warning for anyone interested, I picked this up on sale a few months ago and the handheld performance was abysmal. Constant frame drops, and it crashed after around 20 minutes of play time. Can't speak for docked, but I really wouldn't recommend this one.
@cyrus_zuo Endless Ocean was my JAM back in the day. I would love to get a new one of those, but ABZU and Subnautica will have to do for now on the Switch.
Aaaaannd bought. One of the best chill exploration games ever.
Love this game, more of an experience than a game, bought on digital would of bought physical if would of been available.
@jcboyer515 I thpught it still had a few more days, but you're right.
