could this updated Diddy Kong render be a hint that a new Mario Party or Donkey Kong country is coming to Switch?in celebration of Donkey Kong 40th anniversary?

This could only possibly mean Diddy Kong Racing 2, Donkey Kong Country 6, Donkey Kong 64 HD and Super Mario Party 2.

Hmm... I wonder what happened to that rumoured Diddy Kong Racing 2? The one that supposedly had crossover characters from obscure animal-themed Nintendo IPs like Rusty and Dillon.

Nintendo are just updating their stock renders of Mario characters. Peach, Daisy and Bowser also got new art.

Mario Kart Tour wasn’t updated to use the new Peach or Diddy art yet.

The only thing I notice is that Diddy's hat and shirt are 2 different colors. But Sakurai made both articles the same color.

Don't get your hopes up, Mario has had his static pose re-rendered 3 times, and Yoshis walking pose has been re-rendered 4 times. This means nothing

We're so desperate that we're starting to have delusions about fur.

This mean it will be either:

• A new DKC game or DK game in general (I'm hoping for a return to DK64)
• a new Diddy Kong Racing
• a new Mario-spinoff such as Mario Kart or Mario Party
• or this is a render they will use to promote either the Mario Kart Tour, the DKC attraction in Universal Studios, or it will be a render they will use for the upcoming Mario Golf game for the Switch.

It probably means that since DK has had realistic fur in some of his renders for a while, it was probably time to update Diddy's fur as well. Nothing more.

As if a new render has something to do with a new game. Nintendo fans are always stupid to make up such conclusions like that.

I know it'll probably never happen, but I would absolutely love a modern remake of DK64. That game had very fixable issues, and I've no doubt an HD coat of paint and a second pass at the underlying game design could turn it into one of the best 3D platformers on the Switch.

@Dr_Lugae I still remember a blog post before the Switch was released, and even before we knew its name, that said Diddy Kong Racing was in the works to be a launch title for the Switch, but that never came true, and other details that were said in the post were off (Nintendo aiming for a $150 launch price, though I could see this if the Switch didn't have a screen and was just a console like the GameCube maybe).

But, the rumor behind it was related around the developer Monster Games possibly developing the game, and based on how Monster Games has not released a single title on the Switch, I'm leaning towards the rumor of the game being in development originally as true, because of other reports of how Nintendo cancels entire contracts with companies because of leaks and rumors that happen about projects that might be in the works (High Voltage with Splatoon, Netflix with The Legend of Zelda, etc.).

Monster games was a pretty solid company teaming up with Nintendo, and pretty much exclusively when they started on the Wii with Excite Truck at launch. Their last game developed and published on a Nintendo system was Xenoblade Chronicles 3D for the 3DS though, and not a single game they have developed since has been released on a Nintendo system.

They ported Donkey Kong Country Returns to the 3DS, and then even apparently worked with Retro on Tropical Freeze, they made Excitebots (apparently after Nintendo decided against Diddy Kong Racing on the Wii at the time), and even developed Pilotwings Resort.

I don't know what happened and if they had more of a Diddy Kong Racing game done, and that blog leak caused Nintendo to cancel the entire project, but I do hope that maybe it can see the light of day if it was in the works and nearly complete.
I really enjoyed Excitebots on the Wii, and they seemed to have the racing mechanics down well.

I really hope this is evidence of a new DK game! Especially since Donkey Kong is my favorite fictional character! This year is his 40th anniversary, after all.
