Can anyone clarify, is this the result of an upgrade/patch to this specific game? Or is the performance improved just by running on switch 2 hardware - in which case would other games theoretically be similarly enhanced?
@The_Dragons_Mouth Overall it's definitely more stable than at launch. Crashes are nowhere near as frequent and some other bugs have been ironed out. Framerate and resolution are still pretty shoddy though, which puts you at a disadvantage against other players. I still find the game enjoyable and playable enough to have stuck with it, but you're better off playing on another platform if you have the option.
I was wondering how they would handle bullet time (would time slow down for all players?) but the one part of the video that shows it, the other players' movement is so janky you can't really tell.
A lot of people in the comments are dumping on Bitcoin but it's actually very useful if you need a way to buy [REDACTED] or child [REDACTED] without the authorities breathing down your neck.
Glad I'm not the only one in the comments who got stumped by this game. I decided to bail out when the levels got so hard I would sit there staring at them until I fell asleep, but I remember thinking a level editor would be a fun addition. Maybe I'll pick it up again to check this out. Side note; one of my weirdest/funniest gaming moments in recent memory was the puzzle where I constructed LEVEL IS YOU just to see what would happen. It immediately kicked me out to the level select screen where I could now move both Baba and the level icon around the map.
I wonder if the OLED model will fit existing carry cases, given that it's only 0.1 inches wider than the standard Switch, and the other dimensions appear to be the same?
That New Nintendo 2DS XL in the image had me confused for a minute. Never realised they released a 2DS model with the clamshell design. For some reason the 3DS is the only Nintendo console since the N64/Game Boy Color era that I never got round to owning. I was pretty skint when it came out, then later on I always had plenty of games to play on the Wii U. I never had much opportunity for gaming on the go anyway, so I just didn't feel the need for another handheld. I would've liked to play Link Between Worlds, but other than that I'm not sure how much I missed out on.
@AJDarkstar Press the minus button to open the System menu, go to Options, then invert vertical camera. It was the first setting I looked for. Inverted y axis for life.
All this has reminded me of these fan-made posters for a Studio Ghibli Zelda movie. The art style just fits so well. It'll never happen, but it's the only Nintendo movie I'd really want to see.
Sad news for people who backed this for the Wii U version, but this is far from the first and won't be the last time this happens. Stuff like this is why I will never back a game on Kickstarter. A Wii U stretch goal is not a binding contract. You're not pre-ordering the game (which is pointless enough - why would you spend money on an unknown product?). You're essentially gambling on a dev's ability to keep its (often overly ambitious) promises, usually with a small team and limited resources.
Well at least Nintendo haven't forgotten about it.
"But this time, the change in flavour will be like going from Japanese food to Western style food"
Potentially a very revealing comment. Or it could just be a completely throwaway analogy. Time will tell. I'm not expecting to see anything substantial on Zelda until E3. Back into the hype-bunker!
Like everyone else, I'm expecting very little from this. Minor updates / release dates for games we already know about, possibly a couple of low-key reveals. They'll be saving up the big guns for E3 at this point.
Let's see; technically impressive, but weirdly sterile? Every possible reflective surface polished to a dazzling shine? Gratuitous particle effects out the wazoo? Yep, that sure is an Unreal 4 demo. I mean, it's impressive work, and I admire the guy's skill, but the more I see of these the more I'm reminded that art style trumps graphical horsepower every time.
What I really want out of this game, more than dual screens or shiny graphics or 60FPS, is epic space battles against hundreds of enemies. The enemy counts in the demo footage just looked a bit sparse compared with something like Rogue Leader on GC. Admittedly Rogue Leader's framerate chugged like a tractor when things got busy, but that was a decade ago. I'm sure Nintendo / Platinum could afford to throw a few more enemies on screen and still keep things running smoothly, (even if not at 60FPS) especially with the relatively simple visuals.
I'm getting more and more tempted by this. Before it came out I had basically no interest in it. I've never been particularly into old school 2D Mario, and I didn't think I'd have the patience or creativity to design my own levels. But seeing some of the stuff people have been coming up with really makes me want to try it out. Problem is, I'd have to pick it up soon while there's still a lot of interest and an active community.
Hey, can anyone with the game clear up a couple of things about the multiplayer?
1. Is it possible to unlock everything without spending on microtransactions, or is there a limit to how many golden eggs you can earn through gameplay?
2. Is that cat head costume from the early trailers still in there?
@Toad Yes, in the US. Came out earlier this month in Japan and today in Europe. Hopefully by then some of the technical issues might be ironed out by a patch, but I'm not holding my breath.
Disappointing news if true, but hardly unexpected. This was my most anticipated game of the year. The multiplayer looked like an absolute blast, but if it ends up not coming to the US, or just reviews so badly that it tanks, then there's no chance of it sustaining a viable community.
On a more obscure note, I think Battalion Wars could do with another chance. The action / strategy combination never quite meshed for me on GC and Wii, but the Wii U could be the perfect fit. Strategy on the GamePad, action on the big screen. Unlikely, but would be interesting to see.
Since we already know Zelda won't be shown, and we already know about Starfox, the most exciting thing Nintendo could (realistically) announce would be a new Metroid on Wii U - and even that wouldn't come close to the kind of hype generated by Sony's conference. Still, looking forward to the Direct. Hopefully Iwata's still got a few tricks up his sleeve that haven't been leaked yet.
My first instinct was that there was no chance of this happening, for the simple reason that Epic have flat out stated that Unreal 4 won't support Wii U. On the other hand, Bloodstained is being made in Unreal 4, and that's supposedly coming Wii-wards. So now I'll just assume it's not coming to Wii U for the same reasons as every other big third party game.
