I really enjoyed the series of articles around this topic. Whether guilty or not, if you look at the asset price rises retro games are currently in a speculative bubble - buy/invest at your own risk.
Brilliant video, well worth watching it to the end. I used to work in a UK games store in the mid 90s and many new games we sold were never sealed in the 1st place anyway.
I remember unsuccessfully trying my best to persuade my parents to buy me one when I was a wee lad. In hindsight the price was a lot in today’s money. I guess that is why the consoles were able to take over in the end.
@SpringDivorce and those blue blue skies (also in Outrun!!). In fairness there have been so many games mentioned in the chat for me to go and revisit. Outrun definitely one of them 😃
I think this is an interesting concept and gives access to a new asset class for smaller share holders.
Are the shared openly traded on an exchange to provide liquidity? And does the company own multiple items or is each item housed in an individual company with its own shareholders?
Pre-ordered mine. I purchased the mario g&w which, despite its flaws, I still pick up and play a lot. I would love to see Nintendo make a G&W compilation onto a single g&w unit.
A punch out anniversary edition would also be awesome (unlikely, but great to dream!).
I recall my Dad telling me we were going to Portsmouth for the day, but then surprising me and taking me to the local arcade instead. We played this game for a few credits which we both really enjoyed (him as Homer, me as Bart). Great memories.
It does get old soon, but is fun with two or more players.
Terrific read and a great reminder of the anniversary of this awesome franchise. Hopefully Sega has something planned beyond the current announcements made.
Great article and thanks for the coverage. I love the concept of re-releases but I already have too much “stuff” hence for now not for me in a physical form.
I started trying to build a complete set of SMS games, but stopped when I got to 150 titles as realised there was so much rubbish, borderline unplayable. For my SNES I have only purchased games that I will actually play. Each to there own.
Back in the 90s I’d keep my carts in a cardboard box and put the actual boxes in the attic. Therefore when I started rebuilding my collection (from scratch) I just went with the cards as the boxes were never seen and hence no nostalgia.
Just release it already. SO many more good games for this gem of a system - Golf, baseball, card fighters, metal slug, sonic etc. etc. Like shooting fish in a pocket sized barrel!
An awesome game and technically a super impressive version. Whilst the sound doesn’t sound as good as other snes SF ports, the gameplay here is much deeper (supers, alpha counters, mid air blocking, custom combos etc.) making this a much better game.
By the time the game was released snes coverage was thin on the ground ( heard to even locate magazine published contemporary reviews for this game). Were the 32 bit versions better? Of course. But that doesn’t stop this being a great conversion which is immensely playable.
Hopefully will be able to stream this, although appreciate that will miss out on the physicality of the product and artwork. Would still be good to generate income for the composer and widen the audience.
Top, top console with an enjoyable library to explore. I have the original hardware but mainly play via my snes mini these days as more convenient. Am still looking to re-purchase games I owned when younger
Had fun voting, but like others have noted this list sorely needs expanding.
I have a lot of love for prince of Persia on the snes. Konami did an incredible job translating this to the snes with one of my all time favourite soundtracks and an overhauled graphics engine. Did I mention the soundtrack?
Axelay is another favourite of mine with graphics and sound still holding up well today (and proved the snes could handle shm ups
Received a text advising mine is due in today. Like others here, really surprised they altered the design to remove the stand seen in other G&W models.
Maybe an official stand will be released for more ££££!!
@Electric-Dreams I wanted to know that as well, have not seen any stand (or image of the rear of the unit) yet. Hopefully NL will have a review up shortly!
My friend had a VB at the time, but I was one of the people who suffered from headaches after playing for 5 minutes, so could never really say if I liked it or not. I’ll stick with my 3ds for the time being
I had a snes when I was younger, but following a purchase of the megadrive mini I finally picked up a megadrive mark 1 which I really love. The megadrive has a great library of games which can be appreciated in its own right.
I already purchased at full price and never looked back. Great catalogue of games majority of which can be pick up and played and very accessible.
In fact I enjoyed mine so much I then purchased a real model 1 megadrive which am now also enjoying. Just regretting all the hate I gave to megadrive owners back in the 90s 😮

Re: Where To Buy Game & Watch: Super Mario Bros.
Sad to see the discounts. Doesn’t bode well for a 35th anniversary Zelda version game and watch which I would have loved.
Am still enjoying mine and the watch function is neat.
