If you've been holding out on buying the Sega Genesis Mini (or the Mega Drive Mini as we'd call it here in the UK), you'll be pleased to know that there's never been a better time to jump in and grab one.
At the time of writing, Amazon is selling the console at a whopping 50% off the regular asking price, meaning you can now snap one up for just $39.99. Amazon says that stock is expected on 12th July, so if you order one now, you shouldn't have too long to wait before it arrives.

Still too much.
Man I just wished that tower of power was on sale in the UK! I'm gutted I missed out!
I hope this sold enough so that Sega doesn't regret dumping Atgames.
Ryan Craddock - Nintendo Life - the clue is in the name. I'm not here for a Sega affiliate post.
Have been waiting for a deal like this over here in EU for quite some time now, I really hope it would happen soon somewhere.
I'd be tempted to get this to replace the awful laggy switch Mega Drive Classics. I pressed jump before typing this message; bet that hedgehog hasn't left the ground yet!
Mini consoles are fun, but I find myself playing them for about two days and then they are unhooked and sit on the shelf.
US-only deal?
@syrupdash I agree!
$40 for games I already own multiple copies of....and add to the HDMI disaster known as "the chaos behind my tv"?
Sounds great!
I honestly wish they offered a second variation of the model after the slim Genesis. I enjoyed the second model as it was the one I grew up with. I never saw the original till I watched retro game channels.
@Kimyonaakuma You know, I have that very same disaster! LOL! Take care.
@panthro Yet you still clicked, then typed out a comment.
@Damo yes to give feedback on such a ***** post.
Oh wow, how easy is it to put ROMs on it? That was what really made the Nintendo minis shine for me. I want to get the Sega one but almost none of the games that I love are on it!
@panthro Why do you consider it to be a poor quality post? We've covered the Genesis Mini several times in the past (including one post which got over 140,000 views, which indicated the readership is interested) and we gave it the full review treatment. The fact that it's now $40 is news-worthy to a lot of people who have resisted a purchase up to now - perhaps not to you, but we're not in the business of creating content solely for one person
@Damo Exactly. I just bought one because of this post! $40 is a steal!
I bought mine day 1. I still play it from time to time.
@panthro Aren’t there tons of Sega games on the Switch? Sega Ages Collection and other individual games and what-not? It’s not like Sega is producing anything to warrant a “Sega only” website, and seeing as how there are so many Sega games readily available for the Switch, this feels like the perfect site for this news.
@Damo a deal is not news.
@Damo I like articles like these. It’s where I learned about the Sega Genesis Mini, Turbo Grafx Mini, Neo Geo Mini, and the SNK Arcade Stick Pro. And I’ve bought them all. Feel free to throw in some news about Arcade 1up news too. Thanks.
@TG16_IS_BAE the post has nothing to do with Nintendo.
@panthro It's clearly prefixed with 'Deals'.
@panthro you could've said "Amazon affiliate link"! It would still be a silly argument, but it would've been more #relatable that way.
Missed opportunity.
@panthro So what? These kinds of things pop up rarely, and this is something actually helpful. If the site was littered with them I would have more understanding for you, but for now all I can give you is the worlds tiniest violin.
@Damo you said "news-worthy". It's not. It's yet another amazing affiliate article from NL.
@panthro Agree to disagree. It's news-worthy to me. And a lot of people.
@TG16_IS_BAE as long as the violin is from Amazon, then I'm happy with that.
@panthro Coming on to an article you supposedly “hate” to tell the writers who worked hard on the article that it’s a “poor quality post” is a low I never hope to reach.
If you don’t like it, then fine, (opinions) but giving crap to the editors is just unnecessarily rude.
@panthro Thank you for the humor.
Wow, a mini console 50% down in price? That most certainly IS newsworthy, and warrants a mention on NLife...
Finger to the haters...
@Apportal_SMM2 worked hard?! lol
Or buy the Steam Genesis collection because it actually includes Sonic 3 and Knuckles.
@panthro If this is of no interest then why go to the trouble of opening post, reading and replying??
Like it or not, Nintendo and Sega will forever be linked due to their once historic rivalry and their current software/mascot tie ins.
No Sonic 3, no thanks.
Interesting that you use the words Go Go Go when they come from Launch Base Zone from the game that isn't in the collection.
Shame I don't have the gif of Sonic shaking his finger 😁
For me was fantastic value at full price, I think was worth it for contra hard corps alone. Whenever I go on it there’s always a game I forgot was on there xx
Have to say that i was disappointed with the joypads which this is bundled with. they just feel too spongy and lightweight. The SNES Mini ones felt far more like the originals.
@X68000 Your username image is astounding
@panthro Buh-ro. Give it up. Also, to some people who aren't out there looking every day for some much wanted gaming hardware to go down in price this is news.
@panthro there really isn’t that much Nintendo news to report on a daily basis is there?? They’ve reported on the Genesis mini before and many other NON Nintendo related items in the past so I don’t see the biggie here. 🤷♂️
@panthro it’s news to me, I didn’t know about the deal until I read it here.
Ordered! I’ve wanted one ever since I got it for my girlfriend.
Hopefully there will be a similar deal in Amazon EU !
A brilliant price.
@mesome713 I agree. There are maybe 5 games on this I'm interested in the rest I can easily get elsewhere, for cheaper or I don't care about. Honestly, I was never that into the system. Too many beat 'em ups and fighters, which I didn't care about, and arcade ports never did anything for me. When you take those away, it practically halves the system library.
And it's worth every cent!
@panthro E
Ahhh zip it and quit your whining. Its no different then getting News from any other company. And Sega has had a long history with Nintendo as rivals and as business partners.
I hope you peeps who don't have one yet can grab one for such a good deal. I wish mine had been $40 when I snagged it but that's how it goes sometimes.
@ritouf good luck fitting the PS5 down there.
I'll buy one for 20 bucks.
Honestly cannot recommend the Mega Drive/Genesis Mini enough and for that price, people should be snapping them up. The amount of games , both first and third party is decent, including a couple of never released outside Japan titles. The emulation is spot on (thanks to M2, I believe) and the overall quality is nothing short of fantastic. Personally, for me, this rivals the SNES for the king of the minis titles. The cable length on the controller is definitely the one superior thing over the SNES Mini. Seriously though, if you've been holding out buying one of these, now really is the perfect time to do so.
I’ll keep an eye on Amazon UK in case it appears there. Seems unlikely though as it’s only 3rd party sellers selling it, I bet this discount comes from Amazon themselves.
@X68000 That's the only reason I haven't picked one up yet! I never really liked the Genesis controller (even the original), but from what I've heard, the ones that come bundled with the mini are even worse and feel cheaper ("spongy" seems to be a good analogy).
Bought mine for $60 in January. There were a few odd decisions in regards to games included and ones omitted (I'd have added Streets of Rage 1 and 3 and removed Virtua Fighter 2 and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine) but it's still a great compilation of games. Genesis is still in my top 2 favorite consoles all time and this is easily the best of the mini retro machines, imo.
@MikeW I was a fan of the pad back in 1988 when i bought my first MD from Hong Kong as a kid, but time has been unkind especially after the launch of the 6 button controller then the best pad of all time IMO; The Saturn Pad.
I just tried my original MD out and compared, the weight is way off, button presses are less responsive and take longer to reset after each press and the d-pad is virtually weightless and feels rough and just generally cheap.
I already purchased at full price and never looked back. Great catalogue of games majority of which can be pick up and played and very accessible.
In fact I enjoyed mine so much I then purchased a real model 1 megadrive which am now also enjoying. Just regretting all the hate I gave to megadrive owners back in the 90s 😮
Bummer...Amazon is back to $50 now.
I'll wait till Black Friday.
@X68000 Thanks for the info! I've unfortunately never had the opportunity to try out the Saturn pad (I don't think I've ever even seen a Saturn in real life if you can believe that...).
As much as I adore many of the games on the Genesis mini, the way you've described the game pad is a dealbreaker for me. So much of a videogame is its controls, and if that isn't topnotch, then the whole package just falls flat.
@ogo79 No, its playing through the games offline. Ive tried Sonic, Golden Axe and Beyond Oasis and theyre all like it
I have one ,and I don’t regret it .
