Re: Mario And Zelda On Mobile Could Bring New Players To Nintendo Consoles, Suggest Industry Analysts

@Nomad you are right that we should wait since Mario Kart and Smash Bros are around the corner and potentially they attract new players. But what if it's not enough? Isn't it better to try and think now about alternative solutions?

I think Nintendo should push harder is effort to attract loyal 3DS owners to the Wii U and vice versa before deeper phone interactions.

Re: Mario And Zelda On Mobile Could Bring New Players To Nintendo Consoles, Suggest Industry Analysts

maneauleau

I see a lot of people saying it would be wrong for Nintendo to put some of their games on the smartphones and while I respect that and understand that, I don't see anyone proposing an alternative way to regain profitability.

And that's the problem Nintendo is facing.

So ok no games on smartphones and for sure no games on concurrent platforms but then how do you make the extra money? I am sorry I don't have a proposition either then.

Re: Review: LEGO Marvel Super Heroes (Wii U)

maneauleau

The best part is that WiiU is the superior version with all the gamepad possibilities: map om the gamepad or quick character select on the gamepad or choice of coop spit screen or no coop splitscreen with the gamepad. Only regret, no wii classic pro controller support while wiiu pro controller is supported.

Re: Talking Point: The GamePad and its Role Defining the Wii U

maneauleau

I think the gamepad appears as an odd or clumsy thing for most of the people who haven't owned it. Even trying it out in a shop doesn't reveal its value. But once you become a WiiU owner it becomes a love story. Sure the screen definition could be better or the battery life should have been sorted straight away. But still, it offers so much and at the same time the developers can choose what to implement. So much more possibilities such as:

  • Off TV play
  • Map or HUD display on the gamepad
  • 2 players without screen splitting
  • Asynchronous play
  • Touch play
  • Drawing
and I think we haven't seen everything yet. And not only for games it's a blessing, look at the WiiU browser with youtube and its use in the karaoke from joysound. I think it's somewhat a hard thing to market and sell but once you adopt one it's really hard to go back.

I think and feel exactly like you Thomas, I am not only a Nintendo player, I am also a PC gamer and I appreciate genres like FPS, RTS, dota-likes etc... but I really hope these and Nintendo can coexist because I need both. And if I have to choose I would prefer Nintendo because I am not really convinced or attracted by ultra realistic graphics. Life is realistic enough, let me enjoy dreamy unrealistic colorful worlds instead. I hope Super Mario 3D World will be like a Christmas fairy tale and will sell Wii U like hot breads and let the Wii U build some confidence and a bigger audience. We need more titles like this.

Man for 2 euros, whether you like it or not or whether you have it on another platform, you should just buy it. So that send the message is sent around that price has also a big weight on purchases decision

Re: Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida Wants The Wii U To Succeed

Nice guy and clever. I like him really.
But Nintendo's problem is not that they have or had the wrong message, their problem is that the casual crowd (the one without kids) has moved on to tablets and phones and might never come back until they have kids. Gamers will be split between PC, XOne, PS4 and WiiU. Nintendo can attract gamers by releasing top notch games involving their famous intellectual properties icons. Let's see how Christmas works for Nintendo, before doing further projections. I am confident.

Re: Nintendo Reports Continuing Improvement in Download Sales

"Nintendo, whether digital or packaged believe price should be the same, claims once buy digital more likely to buy again digital" by David Gibson (@gibbogame) https://twitter.com/gibbogame/statuses/395728245758238720

This though saddens me a lot. They really think that digital and retail should be sold for the same price Why should price be the same if you can't resell, can't lend or have no way of transferring or re-download your games later on with no account system and no guaranty of the future?

Re: Wii Party U Can Be Downloaded Digitally Down Under

maneauleau

On the European eShop it says not available yet so there is hope isn't it? I just hope they won't try to rip us off like they do in Australia.
By the way same topic different game: was Mass Effect 3 never on the eShop or was it pulled out at some point?

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Clarifies That Local Multiplayer is Still the Priority for Mario

maneauleau

@sketchturner couldn't have said it better. Especially if Nintendo wants to please kids and gamers alike. Even if they allow to play online with friends only that would a least be something. Of course local is better but in 2013 in the new gen having the choice should be the norm. I really want nintendo to succeed and to do so it needs to step up in the online compartment. When you grow up your friends and family are most of the time living very far away so the chance to play with them locally are rare. This way of treating the online coop play reminds me how they dealt with CDs vs cartridge and later on the HD vs SD. I hope they change their minds before 10 years

Re: Wii Party U Bypasses the Wii U eShop in Launch Week

maneauleau

@rjejr I wouldnt mind paying 35$ for a download version then I think it's still a win win? I like to have this kind of game digitally as you play in small bursts and the kids will come back often to it so we don't need to pop the disc in and out all the time. Also I don't really need that wiimote nor the stand. If only there was a way to install the games then I wouldn't mind... That would be so nice if we had such a feature with a CD key like PC or something

Re: Review: Sonic Lost World (Wii U)

Good review Thomas. I particularly liked that you mention how hard it is for kids which can be important for parents buyers. I liked Sonic Colours would I like this one too then?

Re: Nintendo Most Likely To Produce Gaming-Centric Tablet, Says Game Designer Jesse Schell

maneauleau

Well I do smell like their next device could be a fusion between a handheld and a home console which let you play on the go while at the same time having the ability to play on the TV. Is it gonna have the shape of a tablet not sure and who knows what Nintendo have up their sleeves, they always ending up surprising us no matter what and that's also why I love them. But I don't see that happening before at least another 4 years
