Re: Review: Donkey Kong Country Returns HD (Switch) - Aping A Retro Classic

jcgonzmo

The final advice is really idiotic. Saying grab the superior Tropical Freeze, is like saying do not play Breath of the Wild, grab the superior Tears of the Kingdom. Why would you deny yourself the original just because there is a sequel that improve whatever is wrong. The correct advice would be, buy Return then play Tropical Freeze or wait for a sale buy Return and then buy Tropical Freeze.

Re: Datamine Uncovers References To PS4 And PC In Switch Exclusive Shin Megami Tensei V

jcgonzmo

Why are people mad? Let me tell you why I am mad. I am mad because I bought SMTV at full price because of a limited edition steelbook. Now, I have not even started playing the game, an I already find out there will be a superior version for the PS4. By the way, I have a PS4 Pro, so I would much rather play the game were performance is going to be MUCH BETTER. Also, do not forget, that Atlus is famous for re releasing their games with new content, what Persona 5 Royal is to Persona 5. There is a possibility of getting an ultimate version of the game 3 years from now.

Re: The First Three Dragon Quest Games Will Be Released On The Switch eShop In Japan

jcgonzmo

@Thraxmo Well they are good ports and the ultimate versions of the games.
1) Synthesized Orchestral Music
2) Updated Graphics
3) Quality of life improvements
4) Updated scripts to make the story more fluid
Obviously I would prefer to play this games on a console. Having said that, the first two games are really OLD NES games. The iOS ports are leaps and bounds better than those. I could not care were those games were released. However, DQ III, that is another ball game. I was kind of bummed that it MAY be released on the Switch as I am currently playing it on iOS. However, I noticed it also does not have monster animations. So now I do not care.
By the way, is better to play these games BEFORE playing DQ XI. they connect.

Re: Yoshi's Crafted World Receives Its First Update

jcgonzmo

My only issue with the game, apart from the repetitive music, is the idiotic fetch quest at the end. You have to:
1) Go back to catch every item you may have missed
2) Speed run / Poochy Pup run every level
3) Find the hide and seek robot in each level
4) Find the secret item in each level. Sometimes you have to return to the same level for another item.

What is the reward? A costume. It is idiotic. If they wanted to make the game longer they should have created new worlds.

Re: Opinion: What Did You Think Of Today's Nintendo Direct?

jcgonzmo

@Cobalt I 100% agree with you. I bought a Switch to play new games. I do not mind a REMAKE now and then like Resident Evil Remake or Shadow of the Colossus. However what we saw on that Direct is just a bunch of really old titles. I was watching some youtubers reaction to the direct. I was in awe seeing them excited because of the Capcom Beat Them Up collection or Katamari Damacy. I did not buy my Switch for that. The tabletop games was the cream of the crop for me. Last week there was a Humble Bundle selling all of those games for around $10. They are just shovel ware. While typing this I am thinking that maybe Nintendo's strategy is not beating Sony and Microsoft. Their strategy is beating Valve. Little by little Nintendo's platform is being filled with games that you can buy on Steam. If we add the fact that Nintendo can renovate their console every 2 years (they are planning to launch a more powerful Switch next year) in three more years we will have a really powerful machine that can play games like a PS4 Pro. Maybe by then there will be more Switches on the market and developers will make more third party games for it.

Re: Talking Point: Do We Still Need Review Scores?

jcgonzmo

100% . Users will decide which review scores to pay attention to. I do think that most of the games out there need to be re reviewed. First one for the initial version, and a second one when the game is finalized, with updates and patches.

Re: Review: Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (Switch)

jcgonzmo

@Peterjr1 Because people have a right to complain. Shadow of the Colossus, a REMAKE, costed $40 at release. Dark Souls Remastered costs $40. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate is a port of a 3 year old 3DS game that costs $40, not $60. It does not matter if the game lasts 10000000 hours. There are other games in the market that can last as long as MHGU and still do not cost that much. Also, most people play the game for the main story line. That lasts around 55 hours. If you do the extras, it lasts 161 hours. 608 only lasts if you decide to get every little thing in the game. Only 1% of people do that.

Re: Poll: As "Gaming Disorder" Becomes A Thing, Is It Time To Assess How Much You Play?

jcgonzmo

As everything in life, it depends. I have a simple framework for life, an try to keep everything I do within that framework. My priorities in life are: God>Family>>>Work>Exercise>Reading>Video Games. Video games is last. So I plan my day with the intention of fitting everything but I always mindful that I can not play enough video games, is just a hobby. I do not have time to watch long tv series. The only thing I can watch is 20 minutes of an episode before going to sleep.
Now, If your life is basically just occupied by video games, you have a problem.

Re: Nintendo's Share Price Plummets In Response To E3 Direct

jcgonzmo

@Heavyarms55 Dude, what investors want are system sellers. That is it. Ghosts of Tsushima, Death Stranding and The Last of Us 2 are system sellers. The mech game and Super Mario Party are not system sellers. Also, the fact that the only "original" game Nintendo had was in fact a "Major Update" of Super Smash U, worries any investors. It will remind them of Wii U all over again.

Re: Nintendo's Share Price Plummets In Response To E3 Direct

jcgonzmo

@duhsoares21 Is the game built from the ground up? I am asking this because it is very common for fighting games to upgrade characters, mechanics, etc. For example Super Street Fighte 4 is just an updated version of Street Fighter 4. It is not considered the official sequel. Smash Ultimate seems to be an updated version of Smash U. This is done to keep the game fresh because its focus in multiplayer. Another example is Street Fighter V. It was released in 2016. This year Steet Fighter V Arcade Edition was released. New characters, music, gameplay mechanics, etc. It is a new game but it is a massive update of the base game. Is not the "sequel" even though it is a "new game." The sequel will be Street Fighter 6 when it releases.

Re: Nintendo's Share Price Plummets In Response To E3 Direct

jcgonzmo

I am happy this happened. I am a Nintendo fanboy but they need to learn a lesson. What Nintendo did yesterday, was a big middle finger to fans. You cant have an E3 presentation of 45 minutes and 20 minutes are dedicated to explaining the intricacies of smash. Worst of all, not touching the subject if the game is a sequel or an update of the Wii U game (according to people that have played the game, it is a very big update not a sequel). Their biggest release for this year is a massive update for a 6 year old game. The only things we have to look forward to are a mario sports game, a mario party game (the last games have been a disaster, hopefully this will be awesome) and smash update. 2018 has been a dead year for the console. The only people that are enjoying the Switch are people that did not own the wii u and people that are into indie games and cant play it on another console. Hopefully, it looks like next year will be better. I am excited for Fire Emblem even thought it looked a little bit bland. Yoshi is confirmed for next year. For 2019 I already have 2 games for the Switch. In 2018 I have not bought a single one, I was hoping to do it during the final 6 months of the year.

Re: Retro Studios Handled The Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Port On Nintendo Switch

jcgonzmo

@Paraka DKR was amazing. DKTF near perfect. I would be happy with a sequel that includes at least one more animal buddy (Enguarde), a couple of more mine cart and rocket levels (that match the intensity of the levels of DKR, the fire dragons, the giant bat, the rolling egg, etc) and keep a similar design of the AWESOME and HARD boss fights. An extra would be if the enemies are the Kremlings.

Re: Review: Kirby Star Allies (Switch)

jcgonzmo

Its incredible how ONE game can damage a franchise. I remember when I bought EPIC YARN. The art style looked amazing, an it was the first Kirby game I bougth since Kirby 64.
The game was so easy it was boring! I remember that after some time I asked my girlfriend to play coop with me. She was not a gamer. Even she was yawning because of how simple an easy the game was.
The moment I saw Star Allies I was wary of how simple an easy the game could be. It seems I was not let down.
What sucks is that Nintendo games dont go down that much in price. Hence, if you have a discount with Prime or Best Buy, you pretty much get the best price right now.

Re: Soapbox: The Super Mario Movie Might Not Be All That Great

jcgonzmo

Guys there are three animation studios
PIXAR
DREAMWORKS
ILLUMINATION
Pixar's owner is Disney. I doubt they would team up with Nintendo to do a movie for them! They are busy with their own masterpieces.
The other studios left are ILLUMINATION and DREAMWORKS. There are not many options out there.

Re: Soapbox: Dark Souls’ Ruthless Recipe Perfectly Suits Switch’s Evolving Audience

jcgonzmo

@KingSandyRavage Its freaking amazing. Gameplay, atmosphere and music is 10/10. The rewards of a long exploration are the boss battles. They are fantastic and each boss is unique and each has a theme song that is amazing. Words cannot describe the tension that you feel when exploring the world and knowing that you have to be attentive 100% or you could be killed.
The game does look boring when you watch it online. You have to experience it.

Re: Review: Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (Switch)

jcgonzmo

@gcunit By the way dude. Xenoblade Chronicle X is fantastic. However is not part of the main series. Actually, the game was supposed to have a new name. It was a new franchise. Nintendo, for marketing purposes, decided to call it Xenoblade Chronicles X. The main games are:
1) Xenoblade Chronicles
2) Xenoblade Chronicles 2

Re: Review: 1-2-Switch (Switch)

jcgonzmo

@briwipdx Easy, the review is basically saying that like a piece of marketing software it is good. It is NOT A STAND ALONE game. Personally, I bought a Wii after playing Wii Sports and playing Mario Galaxy. Nintendo could have done the same with the Switch. Use 1 - 2 -Switch just to showcase what the system is capable of.

Re: Guide: The Best Nintendo Switch Micro SD Cards

jcgonzmo

Mario Kart 8, including DLC had a 7GB file size. Super Smash Wii U was 15.9 GB, I do not know if that includes DLC. Personally, 32GB sotrage was low in the Wii U. I bought all my games in disk format. Only downloaded the following indie games Shovel Knight, Steam World Dig, Runbow. DLC of Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Super Smash Bros U and any other major Nintendo game that may have release DLC. Main games, Wind Waker and Fatal Frame. Had to delete some games to be able to play Fatal Frame. So I guess, that as long as you buy your games in physical format, you will be alright for quite some time. Wait and see if updates and DLC consume your storage like in PS4. THEN buy a card. 40GB would have been perfect for my Wii U.

Re: Launching NX Next Year Is The "Proper" Thing To Do, Says Nintendo Boss Tatsumi Kimishima

jcgonzmo

@A01 Console manufacturers, Sony and Microsoft, sell their consoles at a loss. In other words, the put $500 worth of specs but sell it at $400. Why do they do that? Because they hope to recoup the lost money thorough sales of services like PS plus, Xbox Live, etc. Nintendo chose to get apart from this group an focus on developing a good gaming machine that makes money. In other words, Nintendo can sell 1 Wii U and they will make money from it. Sony can sell 100 PS4 and they will lose A LOT of money. Obviously, every strategy have their respective risk. Nintendo by selling such a unique console can align developers. Developer can choose not to develop games for them, like the Wii U. Also, they stay out of the mass market, where people only care for graphics, sounds, etc. Most publishers love this market because they can sell millions of games. There are 40 million PS4 and 10 million Xbox Ones out there. In total there are 50 millions machines out there with equal powerful hardware that can play similar games. Activision can develop a game for the PS4 and just port it to the Xbox One. However they cannot do that with the Wii U. Because Nintendo want to make money from the console, they cannot use expensive specs like the PS4 or the Xbox One. Plus, they hay the Tablet gimmick . So Activision cannot easily port a game to their console. They would just rather not focus on the Wii U.

Re: Feature: Memories of Court Battles in Mario Tennis

jcgonzmo

@ThomasBW84 It would be awesome if you could divide your review in two sections. One focusing in the multiplayer aspect of the game and the other that focus in the single player campaign. This is because a lot of us do not really care for single player, we just want local coop. A lot of reviews trash the game with the score but when you actually read them they mention "Fantastic gameplay like Mario Tennis 64 and fantastic presentation" One review even mentions that if you treat this entry as an HD remake of Mario Tennis 64 you are going to be happy.
