@maruse This month there are LEGO Worlds, Rayman: Definitive Edition, NBA2K18, Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2, The Lego Ninjago Movie Video Game, FIFA 18, One Piece: Unlimited World Red releasing, in addition to the nindies. I think that's pretty good 3rd party support for a Nintendo console. Of course it can be better, specially regarding Japanese 3rd party and some genres of the western AAA output.
@Powerballad @NintendoFan4Lyf Yes, Steep runs on Snowdrop.
@FX102A FWIW, I got my first and only crash yesterday in this game, and it's a totally different thing to get a crash on the Switch than on the Wii U. On the Switch, you just get an error message and the OS closes down the game. You're up and running again in no time. But I agree that these kind of crashes shouldn't exist in the first place. The game is way too good on other fronts for such things to happen IMO.
@Nolan420 You really don't have to be into XCOM to play this game. It's a game of its own.
@BlueOcean SNES, GameCube, Wii, Wii U - none of those consoles had a mario kart game 6 month after system release. Only Nintendo 64 had that.
@EllenJMiller Are you sure you'll cope with buying a non-Nintendo game, like Steamworld Dig 2? I mean, if you buy games like 1-2-Switch instead of the better games available by developers not named Nintendo, it's kind of your own fault that you don't find good games to play.
@UmniKnight If you want pure co-op, look into Overcooked, Death Squared, Mario+Rabbids and perhaps even ARMS. Then there are some 2-player platformers, like Shovel Knight, etc, that could count as co-op as well. I'd agree the selection is much wider for competitive local multiplayer games, but I think that's the way it'll always be on any platform.
@Matthew010 No, although I have played multiplayer tabletop in Overcooked, Snipperclips, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Astro Duel Deluxe when I have been away from home, and it works great (at least for 2 players). I just wanted to point out that the tabletop mode is also one part of the Switch experience.
@SetupDisk In the end, it'll be a bit cheaper on Switch than to get all the DLC in the free-to-play version - although all the DLC content isn't currently yet available, but it will be with future updates. And Switch will also get additional (free) much more difficult 64x64 and 128x128 in a separate update, according to the developer.
However, does anyone need all the content for a game like this? I got the game on the Switch and I solved the (apparently) hardest current level (the #20 128x128 dinosaur level), and IMO the issue with the game isn't the lack of content (a 128x128 puzzle takes many hours to complete) - it's the lack of gameplay variation.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE First, you're replying to "You know none of these could run on a snes." with a game that isn't listed on this page. Second, can you point to some technical info that shows that Celeste can run on a SNES? Like, how is the particle effects and high resolution graphics solved on the SNES, for example?
@AlternateButtons According to the Chucklefish tweet today, the last fixes in Stardew Valley has now been fixed and it has been sent to Nintendo for approval. I guess we'll hear more about Stardew Valley and Pocket Rumble tomorrow, since they were absent from this NoE footage.
@joey302 @Nintendoforlife Rocket League is an indie game. Just a very successful one.
@brandonbwii Why is exclusivity important on the Switch? Skyrim and FIFA 18 on the Switch are cool because they seem to be good portable versions that can also be played on the big screen. For people who move around, the hybrid feature of the Switch makes a huge difference.
@Jeronan Chucklefish made a blog post recently, where they said that they wouldn't reveal the release date until they are 95% sure it will stay that way. Perhaps that date will be revealed now? (The same blog that mentioned Wargroove getting a delay to 2018.)
@mystman12 I doubt they will spend much time on games they have already mentioned in earlier Directs, unless it's with a release date pretty soon. Currently, there are a huge number of nindies that have been revealed during the past 4 months or so since the last Direct where nindies were mentioned.
@Donutsavant Do you want a new list?
Here are some of the nindies that have been announced during the past month or so. Most of these were said to be "Autumn 2017" releases.
_ Boiling Bolt
_ Brawl
_ Brawlout
_ Descenders
_ Fe
_ Frederic: Resurrection of Music
_ The Flame in the Flood
_ Ghost 1.0
_ Hollow
_ Human: Fall Flat
_ Inversus Deluxe
_ Jackbox Party Pack 4
_ A Knight’s Quest
_ Morphite
_ Mecho Tales
_ Promethium
_ Robonauts
_ Re:Legend (well, just a "Kickstarter goal reached" announcement)
_ Shu
_ Super Meat Boy
_ Time Recoil
_ Unepic
@Spoony_Tech I'm pretty sure you will get a release date for Steamworld Dig 2. At Gamescom last week, Brjann (at Image and Form) said that it will release "very very very soon" and that he knew what date it was.
This article seems to fail to mention the difference to the freemium model. The Switch version contains most of the DLC (but not all) on release day, will get the remaining DLC and more as free updates. According to the devs, the Switch version seems to be cheaper than the mobile version, if all you want all the content. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=246008456&postcount=355
@Bengals76 The game is digital only on all platforms, except the for collector's edition. It's also an inexpensive game and it's only about 190 MB (on the Switch).
@Pigeon Well, the current average quality level on the Switch eShop is very high IMO. Compare the NL reviews with other sites, and you'll see that they are about the same score. And NL doesn't review all Switch games.
@Kiz3000 Shovelware will only arrive if NoA/NoE stop curating. The quite big list of future game releases that have been announced during the past week show no signs of shovelware.
** Lanning says the Switch has 2GB of RAM. Is Lanning spot on?
** Lanning says that 3rd party titles didn't sell on the Wii. How many 3rd party titles sold more than 1 M units on the Wii? Is Lanning spot on?
** Lanning says that Wii U didn't have any 3rd party support. Why would there reasonably be any support from major 3rd party studios for a console that sells 13M units over a 4 year period? Is Lanning spot on?
@Pod AAA games need that kind of sales to only break even with the development costs. A game like Pokemon GO doesn't have those kind of development costs.
@Jaguar11891 The radius for the nearby is 200 meters.
@rockodoodle Yes, but when developers really take their time to really make the ultimate console version on the Wii U (like with Terraria/Wii U), people instead complain that the price is lower on Steam?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE NL indeed finally reviewed Terraria/Wii U, but yet again the review contains factual errors and the reviewer didn't properly do the research about the game.
@rjejr You making comments about pricing in just about every comment is not insane? $60 for Mario Kart 8 is insane. It's very easy to get the same amount of hours out of Terraria co-op (specially since the Gamepad allow for easy gameplay for inexperienced gamers) as it is to get the same amount of hours out of MK8. Based on price/gaming hour, Terraria/Wii U has now become much cheaper than both MK8 and my Terraria/PC copy for me.
@Ninten-san The review is incorrect that it's a 2-year old code base. The mobile, console and PC branches for Terraria are different adaptions of the game, and they don't use the same versioning system. The Wii U version is based on the same console update that arrived on June 09 other consoles (console version 1.08). Sure, the console versions don't use much of the new 1.3.1 PC version features and bosses, but there are differences also to the 1.2.x code base and the console versions.
I have the PC version 1.3.1 with all its bells and whistles, and still the Wii U version is my favorite implementation of the game. To me, the Wii U version is a 9/10 and we've now spent over 100 hours on couch co-op.
Other goodies in the Wii U version is that the Hero's Clothes look like Link, and the Plumber's Outfit look like Mario. And the Zapinator weapon is based on the NES Zapper.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Your obsession with the score numbers has nothing to do with that particular game itself. Most reviews of Mario & Sonic for Wii U stops at Heroes Showdown and occasionally only mention what things happen next. As you say, it takes time to review good games, and reviewers didn't put the time required into that game - and it's not a bad game. For example, did Nintendo Force review describe the Carnival in any greater detail (I didn't read that review)?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE In all fairness, the Mario & Sonic 2016 for Wii U was reviewed by someone who didn't play the full game. That was a very embarrassing review. It's actually a pretty great game (it's by far the best Mario and Sonic Olympic game I've played), once you unlock everything and spend time to improve the skill. The thing is that it takes a long while to progress to actually unlock everything substantial.
And BTW, Terraria for the Wii U is one of the very best eShop releases of 2016, released about a month ago in EU (and some weeks ago in the US). Yet, NL seems to be more interested in reviewing quick-to-play junk eShop games that that title.
I got this game last week, and this review's score is very unfair. I think this review was by a reviewer who played very little of the game - there are way too many inaccurate things in the review. And there is no way this game can get a 5 if Mario Party 10 gets a 7.
The main negatives about this game are:
1. It takes quite a while of grinding to unlock everything.
2. No motion controls (which the review mentions)
3. No Pro Controller support
Some moments in the game, like when Rosalina challenge the player in gymnastics after the gold medal was won, are fantastic. I will not spoil it.
Will absolutely get this day 1! Despite the fact that the Wii U is a Terraria machine right now... Plus having Mario & Sonic Olympic and Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE preordered this week.
@BlatantlyHeroic Being able to run and change the inventory items at the same time (like in Twilight Princess HD) does not break the immersion. Being forced to stop the game to change the inventory item breaks the immersion.
@rjejr has a a point. It seems clear that Nintendo removes good features just so the NX version will not appear less functional in any area.
...And I think Kit and Krysta is quite ok to watch nowadays.
Get Terraria, if you like that kind of game! I got it on the EU eShop earlier. The Wii U implementation is really great. Fantastic Gamepad support and very good multiplayer support.
@A01 Not necessarily. For example, the Wii U port of Terraria is really fantastic, with lots of great and different features for the Gamepad. The port of Year Walk is another great example.
Really looking forward to Stardew Valley with (hopefully) great Gamepad support!
@Ultimategamer132 The graphics quality is outdated by today's standard, yes. But the animations (both the character animations and the in-game movements) are really good, and better than most other games in the same division.
