Pokémon GO enthusiasts have plenty on their collective wishlist, and one of the must-haves has been for the much-teased Ditto to arrive. The most recent update, which was meant to be minor, included Ditto assets in the code; these files were considered to be the final piece in the puzzle.
Well, it's arrived, though it appears to have been a stealth move, with Niantic not making any notable noise at the time of writing. Instead, social media is home to lucky GO owners that have nabbed the pocket monster. One example is below, and we've had people send us messages with their similar screens.
So, Ditto is out there. Are you going to try and get one?
With thanks to Matt Allen for getting in touch and for providing the lead image.

My cousin text me this morning saying he caught a 200CP Rattata and the screen went purple and it said he registered Ditto to his Pokedex. Going to see for myself if I can catch one. I play with the sound off to save battery though so Im not sure if theres a sound cue or if his call is different
Apparently it could be any common Pokemon, and you won't know until after you've caught it... probably a way of encouraging us to keep catching common Pokemon.
Some people have claimed that they've seen it's silhouette on the sightings list... but I think they may have actually been looking at a Grimer silhouette, as it would be inconsistent with the concept of it being disguised.
I will be spending some time during my lunch break attempting to find one though, so fingers crossed!
This kills MatPat's latest theory, and not even 24 hours after he uploaded it!
Been trying all day, but cannot for the life of me find enough Rattata 's to test it out.
Yep, you need to catch something common and rubbish and wait to see if it transforms. This is a problem for me because I generally overlook all the Pidgey's and Rattata's that usually pop up because I can't be bothered wasting my very limited amount of Pokeballs on them now. I don't need their candy, I don't even care about experience because I'll end up without balls to throw at Pokémon I do actually need.
So yeah. this'll be fun...
@GeminiSaint actually this only shows that Dr. Fuji's attempts to clone Mew have just started =OOOO
@GeminiSaint just means mew and mewtwo are on the way before too long! Let the cloning begin.
Just spent my lunch break searching for a Ditto to no avail, only to scroll down through my Pokemon list to find that I'd actually caught one on my way into work with my PGO+, and it hadn't displayed the animation as a result, so I didn't realise.
Looks like a memberberry
@thepeterwright There are other Pokemons where Ditto can be found than Rattata. Try other common ones as well (Pidgey, Caterpie, etc).
I caught two at dinner time today, both from rats.
I was gonna send this in before! I'm in Australia so we got it a bit earlier.
Hot tip — if you send your Ditto into battle it gains CP and transforms into the other monster. Should be good for taking out those dragon types!
I can confirm it's any common Pokémon - I caught three today, one from a Pidgey and two from Rattata
Caught it 30 or so minutes after the event started yesterday. Appeared as a Rattata in disguise.
Nice extra incentive for those who don't like catching or overlook common Pokemon.
@Nintenjoe64 MEMBER INDIGO LEAGUE?
OOH I MEMBER!!!
Confirmation by Niantic:

Disappointing the article didn't elaborate on how to catch it, but everyone above has fortunately. I will add that does transform immediately into the opposing Pokemon when you use it (or face it in a gym), but usual ditto stuff applies...it won't revert until after the battle, moves mirror opponent's moves, etc.
This seems a rather cynical ploy to encourage people to use more pokéballs and spend more money. Not everyone is nearby pokéstops with a constant supply of them!
Me and my roommate both separately caught Dittos today, disguised as Pidgeys. Good luck everyone!
