Stardew Valley has been a major success on PC, with its charming aesthetic and gameplay hooks earning a lot of fans. Drawing inspiration from the likes of Harvest Moon, it blends farming and living off the land with elements of adventure.
The pleasing news is that the developer, Concerned Ape, has officially confirmed that it's coming to the Wii U and other download stores (PS4, Xbox One) this Holiday season; Chucklefish and Sickhead Games are assisting with the ports to release in the Holiday season.
As part of the announcement the Wii U is also singled out, with ambition to make use of the GamePad's screen.
It's very important to me that playing Stardew Valley with console controllers is intuitive and effortless. I'll be the first to admit that the current, rudimentary controller support in the PC version is far from ideal, and it will need to be adjusted prior to the launch.
I'm also excited about the possibility of utilizing special console features like the Wii U's second screen!
It's a pleasing announcement and this is likely to be a hit on consoles. Check out its trailer below and let us know what you think.

Outta give's those Animal Crossing people some favors till then. Hoping it supports updates!
This game will be a day one download!
I already own this game on PC, but I'm glad to know it's getting a Wii U release. Might consider buying it again, since I really love this game.
This game looks so deep but I'm not sure I want to get into another endless game like this. Still looks good none the less!
Awesome news. Love this game on PC. I wish it would get a physical release on Wii U though. Not a big fan of spending the money for a game without getting a physical copy. Even if the physical copy is useless. IE Titanfall. Still like having it.
Heard about this one. Lookin' forward to it!
Looks great in the videos I've seen of it. I hope they make full use of the gamepad. Their comments suggests that they will. It costs $15 on Steam so I expect a similar price on the Wii U eShop.
TAKE MY MONEY! I usually balk at "retro styled" games, but I can't put this down on PC. This is the Bokujo Monogatari clone I never knew I wanted. I think I may buy a copy or two for friends as well.
I was keen to play this game, but controllers were putting me off (I hate pla'll try it.
Sigh... at least the Wii U hasn't been forgotten by everybody (including Nintendo). Unfortunately (and perhaps surprisingly as well) this may be the best Wii U game of the year!
P.S. I dearly hope the NX has third-party support. Just look at the number of games coming the Xbox One and PlayStation! The NX doesn't NEED third-party support. But Nintendo can't rely on gimmicks any longer; they have to focus on power if they want to stay in the game! (Or get back into the game, from some's perspective.) Imagine Zelda U in 4K, 60 fps, right next to Nintendo's fun, colorful games you can't get anywhere else (like Splat2n) along with the latest third-party titles such as Battlefield 1, for example. If the NX is just Nintendo's version of the PS Neo or Xbox One Scorpio (with no gimmicks) and focuses on great games, Nintendo will be the company to beat this (mid) generation of consoles.
Want!!! But why not 3DS? It would be a perfect game for the handheld, even if the 3D wasn't utilised. I much prefer playing games like this on a portable (which is the only reason I haven't got it for PC yet).
Not that Stardew Valley's UI is difficult to use to begin, but I can definitely see the Wii U's gamepad improving item and menu management.
Also, it's just a special little game and I'm glad more people will have a chance to play it now.
Definitely interested! I've heard great things, and I've wanted a game like this for some time. I figured it'd never come to Wii U, but I'm thrilled that it is!
Not fond of the character design and sprites. I think the world looks kinda flat too.
Been waiting for a Steam discount, really want this!
I've seen Pokemon mods on the PC, hopefully some Nintendo exclusive stuff on this...
Lastly... When is it coming!!!!
Yes!!!
Fantastic! What I have been wishing for
No 3DS? Bummer... might have to skip this one then.
Wow, that reminds me of the times Harvest Moon games didn't suck! Hopefully the gamepad can be used for the touch screen to have controls similar to on PC.
I'm so glad I didn't buy this on PC yet, I'd much rather play it on the WiiU
I got this on PC and definitely did not regret it, such a fun game to blow time on.
I feel like a game like this that you get back to every day would be better suited for 3DS. Not to be ungrateful or anything but.. I can't buy this because I KNOW I won't play it all that much since it's on Wii U.
Can you be a girl in this game?
I've been hoping this game would come to consoles (Wii U, specifically) ever since I saw it for PC on Giant Bomb. When it showed up in Microsoft's conference, I was worried it would be Xbox exclusive, so I'm glad they came out and said it was coming to the Wii U too.
I was just about to buy this on my pc, glad I held off a bit longer.
@Aerona Yes you can.
Game looks super charming
I've played a decent amount of this on PC, and for anyone curious, my opinion is that this is an absolutely fantastic Harvest Moon style game, and maybe the best game in that genre of all time.
Great news
Second screen support would be amazing for this game. Definitely grabbing it.
That's amazing news! The Wii U hasn't been entirely abandoned!!!
Fantastic, now I don't need to buy it on Steam!
@A01 Not necessarily. For example, the Wii U port of Terraria is really fantastic, with lots of great and different features for the Gamepad. The port of Year Walk is another great example.
Really looking forward to Stardew Valley with (hopefully) great Gamepad support!
Blah....
Looks like SNES Bokujou Monogatari but done by Western developer.
Sorry. No and never choose this title.
Lots of people begging for this one; it's always nice to see some wishes coming true. I'll have my eyes out for a hardy demo and'll give that a try based on the word-of-mouth.
@DizziParadise
I agree, this has to come out on 3DS or N3DS!
@Anti-Matter What's wrong with it being developed by a western developer?
This game seems like a perfect fit for the Wii U. Should be great!
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAS!
throws her money at screen
Haven't had time to play it on PC recently since been busy, but I did use already 145h with it XD
It has been worth the money.
And if person who I had conversation months ago in Asdivine Hearts review about "too bad SDV won't have port for WiiU" or something, I take back my words now.
@YoshiParty
Well, nothing wrong but my trust about game developer based on my experienced long time ago. I have ever played both Japanese and Western games, but from my experience mostly Japanese developer like SquareEnix, Konami, Nintendo, Marvellous, etc wins my heart and trust 98% based on their quality. When i played some Western games ( developed straighly from Western developer) only a few impressed me much. Mostly failed to impressed me, compared by Japanese games. Let's say Mr. Bean games on Wii, Skylanders, all western licensed games like Star Wars, Batman series, etc. None of them impressed me at all. But, the only Western game that really, really mindblowing for me is The Sims series. Just only that. Sorry, but i was judging by quality of out of the box idea first. And all popular western right now aren't not working to me at all. I feel like I'm a Japanese gamer rather than Western gamer. For me, Almost western games right now are boring and too mainstream. I have a side of anti- mainstream minded so I want a games that really out of the box, not too mainstream, completely creative and fun. Let's say, The Sims, Dance Dance Revolution, Bokujou Monogatari series, Animal Crossing New Leaf. Those titles for me are really really mindblowing games.

@Anti-Matter Ahh, I see. You ended up playing a lot of Western games and ended up disliking them. That's understandable. I also have more trust with Japanese developers than Western developers as well. Let me just say that Stardew Valley is much better than those Western games that you mentioned, but I can understand why you had a bad first impression.
Also, The Sims is awesome. Really want to get the 4th one at some point.
