I want them THOROUGHLY investigated and every legal action available taken against them if even half of what Karl says is accurate, and from watching his video, I have very little reason to doubt anything he's saying.
Yup, this is pretty much what I suspected all along: A bunch of ***** abusing people with more money than sense and/or those trying to get rich quick ruining things for everyone else. There is no genuine justification at all for any of these games costing upwards of a million dollars. A few thousand and maybe even a few tens of thousands for the really rare games, okay, but once we start getting into the hundreds of thousands and millions, it's just stupid territory. Let's not allow these greedy ***** who ultimately don't give a crap about games to taint the whole industry and our beloved entertainment like this.
@Asaki I must be the only person with anything above low standards then because they just look crap and always have as far as I'm concerned. And while the rest of the game holds up in a retro way, the sky just look like an obvious technical limitation that only appears that way because they couldn't figure out how to do it any better at the time rather than it being an artistic choice within the limitations of the time--the tech trumped that art there. It's the one thing I wished they'd touched up slightly, just so it doesn't look so patently like to flat layers like jaggy paper with bits cut out. If they'd simply made them two full layers with semi transparency and without the obvious cut-out parts or something, still with the whole Quake pixel look and the like, then I think that would have been enough.
Maybe using some of the skies in games like Turok or Doom 64 would have been the way to go (even if they made them look a bit more pixelated to fit in with the rest of the game's textures).
It all looks great for what it is, but why didn't they update some of those terrible original skyboxes. I understand them sticking with the original graphics with minor tweaks for everything else, as they actually hold up very well in their own retro way, but those skyboxes looked crap back then and look even worse now, especially on that first area. They could have kept them basically the same but just blended the two layers slightly better or something so they don't look like really bad cut-outs and sheets of paper in the sky.
That's a more reasonable price for this kind of thing. The games and stuff going up into the hundreds of thousands and even millions is just ridiculous though.
What a strange casting choice. Still, I really enjoyed the first film--it's actually one of my favourite video game movies--so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for the sequel.
Edit: Well, I bought the digital Zelda, Contra and Ninja Gaiden ones, but I never got the Metroid because it doesn't seem to be an option. I meant to just get the three as shown above (with the contra and gaiden combined into one) but it wasn't like that on the site so I got a little duped. Still, I only paid a few quid for the three I got so can't really complain. I want the Metroid one now too though.
So, it's Nintendo's second best selling "home" console, but, it's also one of the first times the sales basically combine for both home and handheld systems, which makes it quite a bit less than how many systems Nintendo sold in the SNES/GB or N64/GBA or Wii/DS eras. I've probably put the wrong home/handheld combos but you get my point.
@Specter_of-the_OLED It's funny how so completely and utterly wrong you are on this. But, I guess it's going to take someone showing you a stunning pixel game drawn in the same basic art style as those classic games, particularly some of the best looking pixel arcade games of the time, but just in HD for you to understand. . . .
The Switch IS Nitendo's new handheld and it comes in three models and price points now so you can basicaly choose which makes most sense to you. Another Nintendo handheld on top of that, outside of a new "novelty" mini system in the vain of the brilliant NES Classic Edition and SNES Classic Edition consoles, would just be a dumb move on Nintendo's part imo. All Nintendo actually needs to do at this point is release as many of the back catalog of GB/GBC/GBA/DS/3DS games on the Switch as possible, imo, and make it the one handheld system to rule them all--which is really what should have been the current version of the Virtual Console on Switch.
This is so sad because the liklihood of these big arcades coming back once they're close down is probably extremely small. I fear that one day there just won't be anymore arcades like this--and that will be a very sad day indeed, for all gamers.
I wish he'd been the one directing Streets of Rage 4 and had stuck with the same gorgeous pixle art as seen in Streets of Rage 2 but just with everything in 1080p now, which would technically mean it was in high-res but not in the weird half-Flash, half-French comic art and somewhat imprecise visual style it has now. I'm talking about in-game pixel art at this level of quality:
All of Streets of Rage 4 should have been done like this imo, which is both in line with the original game art but also of a high enough fidelity to still look stunning today.
Shoot 'em ups (both vertical and horizontal variations), or shmups as they are often referred to, almost always involve flying planes or ships of some kind firing at other flying enemies in auto-scrolling levels. Run 'n' guns almost always involve either humans or a biped of some kind making their way through levels on foot shooting stuff up with guns they are carrying in their hands, and they often involve a bit of light platforming too since the player can usually jump.
Yeah, it's a pity this never got ported to the likes of SNES and Genesis back in the day. It obviously wouldn't have been perfect but clearly they could have done a pretty solid job that would have been well worth it.
PS. Censorship of basically harmless content--I do not agree with. Virtue signalling--I'm talking 'bout you in this review, Damien (you know the comment I'm referring to)--I do not agree with.
It seems weird that Mario is 2 feet tall here. I would have thought he was say 5 feet or something, at least based on his height in all the old games next to the likes of Princess Peach, who is apparently normal sized.
Claymates is a good game to bring up whenever any Genesis fanboy says the SNES can't do fast games because it doesn't have "Blast Processing": https://youtu.be/Y-EPe6NceB0?t=162
A beat 'em up classic that I wish had come to the likes of SNES and Genesis back in the day. Very happy to see it getting a proper re-release now though. Hopefully everything is in perfect order this time around.
Well those results are very interesting, especially as they are on a Nintendo-specific site. I guess that shows just how compelling Valve's value proposition is.
@Sean161 I would expect this game sold very well at the time. I know it was totally stunning to me and probably most people when it first came out, as well as just being a genuinely fun game to actually play--both those points were echoed in pretty much every review of the time too--and those are basically the reasons I would expect it was picked up by a whole lot of SNES owners.
These will likely be snapped up in minutes, and then put straight onto auction sites and the like to be sold at greatly inflated prices.
Note: It actually costs 65,01€ with shipping included to the UK. I know this because I just bought a copy, purely because I have zero physical SNES games anymore (or a SNES or similar clone console capable of playing them for that matter) and just thought it would be fun to have a near perfect condition copy of one of the beloved games from my childhood to sit on a shelf or wherever.
PS. If it's a scam then I am going to be well pissed at you, Nintendo Life, for not doing your due dilligence before reporting this on your website. I did do a quick search on Scamadviser and it seems to think the site is legit, so here's hoping that is indeed the case.
I'm really hoping VR is a part of that at some point, but it's probably just basic streaming of games from a cloud server to devices like the Switch, Series X/S, PS5 and PC, etc.
This is still in my top two Zelda games, and by all accounts this looks better in almost every way, so I'm very interested to see how well it's received and reviewed.
Hey, you know, it might have been a good idea to put the original models in the article purely so people could get a better idea of just how much some of these revisions improved upon the original designs, like the DS to DS Lite, and how some mean very little or were actually worse, like the Switch OLED and Wii "Mini".
1. DS Lite (black)
2. GBA SP (black)
3. New 3DS (because of the changeable/customisable covers)
I also loooved the semi-transparent "Funtastic" N64 systems (Watermelon Red and Fire Orange were my favourites), and I really liked the 2DS (again, the semi-transparent models were just gorgeous).
I'm pretty sure Nintendo has put stuff in the firmware/OS to try to reduce issues that might arise in this area. And, if it's not done quite enough, I think they can just patch the system to do even more to make sure it's not an issue anyone has to worry about in any normal use scenario.

Very disappointing. The original game is brilliant. But clearly they didn't put as much time and effort in here when bringing these games to modern consoles as they could have. I mean, Christ, the very least they could have done with the original game was tweak the sprite for the first aid box so it had white and red rather than pink and red pixel art (which was a bit of a limitation of the SNES at the time because of the way the HUD was done, but not at all necessary now). But if they can't even bother with little touches like that then it's obviously they're just slapping the original ROMs on there, adding some bonus content, and little else, which isn't good enough for a compilation in 2021 imo. I do want the original games basically as they were, but there's no issue with tweaking very minor things here and there that don't change the games for what everyone loved originally but maybe just touch up a couple of things that were basically limitations of the time that the developers clearly would have tweaked themselves if they could have.

Re: Mini Review: Arcade Archives VENDETTA - Konami's Finest Belt-Scrolling Brawler? You'd Better Believe It
