Shigeru Miyamoto is a developer who could certainly be referred to as the "Walt Disney of Gaming". The man is responsible for the likes of franchises such as Donkey Kong, Super Mario, and The Legend of Zelda, and he holds considerable influence over the development of countless projects that emerge from Nintendo. Publicly, he's a lovable and quirky figure, but he's notorious for frequently "up-ending the tea table" late in the stages of game development behind the scenes.
All the same, the industry wouldn't be the same place without him and today Miyamoto turned 63 years old. While it may already be the 17th in Japan and other places in the world, let's all take a moment to wish Miyamoto a happy birthday. What are your favorite memories of Miyamoto's public appearances? What's your favorite game that he had a hand in creating? How has his work impacted your gaming habits? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Happy B Day Miyamoto!!!
63 and still making great games... truly a legend in the industry. Happy Birthday Miyamoto!
Something's not right here....where's the picture of cake?
Happy birthday, Shigeru Miyamoto! What a cynical lanscape gaming might have been without you.
Happy birthday Mr. Miyamoto. Now go tell NOA how to do their job.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIYAMOTO!!! An enormously creative man, yeah he's made some mistakes here and there, but ultimately, he's a GENIUS in every sense of the word. Hopefully we still get many years of his amazing games.
Rock n Roll IS bad for you.
Happy Birthday Miyamoto-san!!!
Hope you'll keep flipping the tables at Nintendo for many more years XP
63? Well now, one more year and you can
@Megumi
I totally didn't eat it or anything lol.
Happy Birthday Miyamoto! May you continue being the best waifu to Bowser.
@Iggly So it was your fault, lol
He's 63 and he still looks like a super model
Cool! My birthday is the 17th. Almost had a claim to fame there. He is exactly 33 years older than me...
Kewl i suppose, my birthday is today as well.
Happy B.Day #ShigueruMiyamoto, the first game I ever played was Super Mario Bros. and the second was The Legend Of Zelda and that was so remarkable in my life that up until today I'm a big nintendo fan!!
Happy birthday to the greatest videogame designer of all time!
My first game was Super Mario Bros, and my all-time fave is Ocarina of Time.
Also, buy Pikmin 3.
I wouldn't have thought he was older than his mid fifties! A fine looking gent for his age.
Happy birthday Mr. Miyamoto!
How did this special day go unnoticed? I'm guessing it's because of time zone differences? XD
Anyway, Happy 63rd Birthday, Miyamoto! Hope you continue to make great Nintendo games!
Hopefully, by the time Mr. Miyahon turns 64 there'll be some rules pertaining to obnoxious GIFs on NL.
@invictus4000 Mine too. I'm the big 39 today. sigh
Happy birthday, Miyamoto! Onward to the next 63 years in which you keep your hands as far away from the Paper Mario series as possible. We wouldn't wanna have another Sticker Star, now would we?
Happy birthday Miyamoto!
Happy Birthday, Miyamoto!
Happy birthday Mr. greater game creator of all !!!
Happy birthday!
When I was a kid this Japanese was the only one I knew something about and the only Japanese I cared for! He worked with Takashi Tezuka and Shigefumi Hino to create the best Mario game ever, Super Mario World!!
He created most Nintendo heroes. Much like myself, he likes animals, sports, nature, music, he's friendly and he contributed in creating Super Mario World, Super Mario 64 and Ocarina of Time!! (I didn't contribute in that LOL, but I was a happy kid playing them).
Happy B Day!!!
Happy birthday too a legend!!
Tezuka yesterday and Miyamoto today. Happy Birthday to both of you!
Happy Birthday to you! Only one year away from the big 6 4!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHIGSY!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday Shigeru Miyamoto!
My favorite game designer ever...first and foremost.
I don't care what gamers today say about him. He's the best person Nintendo ever has and ever will have.
Happy birthday, Miyamoto! Get out there and have some cake!
Happy Birthday Miyamoto-dono!
@Barbiegurl777 Miyamoto's birthday was yesterday also. I assumed that NL was going to have a feature article on it. Happy belated birthday to you as well.
Happy birthday Miyamoto-san! Without you, I wouldn't be the gamer I am today. Thank you for your contributions to not just Nintendo, but the entire industry. While I don't always agree with all your decisions, your amazing work can't be ignored. You revolutionized gaming many times, and made some of the greatest games and franchises there are. Happy birthday!
Happy birthday, Shiggy!
Fun fact: I first saw the article's pic with inverted colors, in a JonTron video (his Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts And Bolts video). This is the first time I see it normally.
@MC808 Nice! We are awesome! Lol
A visionary and someone i would probably cry my eyes out for when he eventually passes away.
63?! Wow.
I wonder how long I've spent playing his games. Bet that can be counted in years too.
Slow news day. No one really cares.
@617Sqn wow really you play Nintendo games but you don't even respect the fact that the person who created MARIO and been alive for 63 years has changed the industry with one of the most creative IPs , yet you don't care about who myamoto is and care what work he does for Nintendo. Wanna delete your comment now lad? look im not trying to be offensive im just stating my words on how I feel about you making a comment like that because it baffles me.
Miyamoto is awesome! I hope he had a great birthday. =)
63 years of pure golden ideas and great work at Nintendo. Happy 63rd birthday Miyamoto!
Happy birthday, Shiggy-Sama!
Kinda hard to see that he's holding a wiimote and nunchuck with that white background. Lol
Today Was Shigeru Miyamoto's 63rd Birthday
You make it sound like he's no longer around, lol.
Kinda neat knowing that I share my birthday with the man behind the Super Mario franchise. Of course, he's over a generation older than me, but still...
Happy Birthday! Whatever happened to those two robot games that he was making which were shown at last years E3?
Selamat ulang tahun pak shigeru
