"The developer certainly isn't shy about which arcade games they are trying to represent"
I honestly have mixed feelings about this. If you take all those other people's hard work out of this new "game", what is left?
UNLESS the dev is properly giving credit to the originals AND paying for them. Then that is fair business.

I agree but you see.. if scroll through the comments section.. seems like it works. People consuming the game nowadays have no way to compare to the "real" thing. It is the same if you try to criticize anything that you know had a "better" counterpart years ago, to people who were not even born that era. Well it is the same for all really. You too, me too, we cannot grasp what was indeed better in the past.

Re: Rumour: Switch Lite To Retain Docking Ability, Nintendo Still 'Experimenting' With More Powerful Model

Because I have so little free time at home, I ended up playing my Switch exclusively on portable mode, for more than one year already. It turned out to be a portable gaming device for me.

I even bought a portable HDMI dongle that I never, ever, used.

So if the more compact model at least maintains the same screen size, and offers a smaller form factor and perhaps better battery life (newer tech), I will get it as soon as it becomes available.

It is a very delicate matter. Yes it is a nice option. But at the same time, it feels more like the truth is they decided on giving only a handful of games initially to sell additional packs later. Instead of the As it is an old-school based experience I would personally trade the Wi-Fi functionality for say, 32 games in total in a closed, sealed, definitive system. It is not like new games are gonna be out because it is a decades old system afterall..
I know I may be sounding like, I don't know.. annoying. But personally I love complete sets. For example, buying an anime series full complete box, or a tv series, and so on. That is the main reason I did not get the Neo Geo Mini for example. If we had the option for a true "all legacy collection" Neo Geo Mini cabinet I would have bought it (even with the flawed directional stick).

I don't get it when people say they are paying $80 for cardboard.
There is a proper Nintendo Switch game included (physical nonetheless). And the game even though "childish" is very much polished and well executed, much more worth the price than lots of stuff on eShop.
EDIT: Not to mention the cardboard stuff itself and the fun to be had during assembly and also using them. So, well, not simply "paying $80 for cardboard" right?

This is Nintendo testing the digital-only future little by little (not only Nintendo, other companies are doing the same).
Things like releasing a barebones game on physical and requiring heavy downloading of updates, patches, and content, train the userbase into thinking physical is useless and cumbersome (when in reality it can be the opposite).
Timed events also, make the user feel the fun content is out there "on the cloud" and not inside their stored media.

This ZOOM feature, what a blessing!!
I never imagined something like this would actually happen, it is perfect for reading the small Kanji! Previously if there were complicated, detailed characters sometimes I would resort to screenshot->Gallery->Zoom

The sorting though.. "last played, total play time, software title, and software publisher"
Apart from Last Played (the one we already had) all others are honestly useless.
Why the hell no custom sorting? Even without folders, by custom sorting we could kind of group the games by personal criteria.

To be fair it is not a walking simulator by any means. You can call it a semi-linear game, but it is still a game. Solving puzzles to advance on the stages, some combat, some other stuff that make up a game and not a walking simulator.
BUT, after completing it I thought it was really repetitive. not only the combat but also the puzzles. Was a nice experience but very simple in concept.

Re: Octopath Traveler's Switch Exclusivity Might Be Coming To An End

@In_Ex_Fan
Well selling is not the intention really. It is more of a reassurance.
It is a bit of a letdown in the end, if something you thought would increase in value actually decreases. Not only pure reselling value. Even that "special" emotional value. For example the original NES Zelda golden cartridge. Even if it does not sell for lots of money nowadays, it remained something unique.

Re: Octopath Traveler's Switch Exclusivity Might Be Coming To An End

gamekill

@AlexOlney
That is the good side.
The ugly side is, lots of people get a game in a system ONLY because it is marketed as exclusive. And afterwards they feel cheated.
For example, one person might really prefer playing games on his gaming PC for whatever reason (personal convenience, time frame, collection, his unique sound/video setup etc) but end up paying for and getting Octopath on Switch because it is exclusive.
Another real-life example are people who even saved up money for the Switch itself ONLY to be able to play Octopath because of love for this type of game. This is a real example, my friend is about to get married this year and is saving up money for that, but worked extra hours to get the Switch + Octopath, and that is all he ever uses the Switch for as he prefers his other gaming system and does not have much free time anyway. So he can be quite pissed off at having been tricked into it.
Another example would be people who bought the game thinking of future (future) reselling value going up as an a highly-rated exclusive game.
There can be even more cases.

Bottom line is, it is always best practice to be clear and honest upfront.

EDIT: I remember I felt the same disappointment on Zombi-U. At the time I prefered zombie/action games on my other systems, and only got Zombie-U because it was exclusive to the Wii U. After it was released on other systems I was pretty mad at having spent my money upfront..

I don't get BotW. Turning into a more generic rpg was not that good for Zelda I guess. Maybe it was economically profitable for Nintendo, and a sales success, but from a gamer's perspective it was meh, yet another grind-heavy stretched out rpg.
But the previous, strongly story-driven, massive handcrafted-dungeons Zelda games were true gems.

On early days of PS4 I managed to get a refund from Sony because of this kind of advertising.

Prince of Persia remake was advertised on the PSN store with words in the lines of "for the first time in glorious 1080p full HD resolution" among the bulleted list selling points. And at the time I wanted to make use of the brand new top of the line 1080p TV I had, so I bought the game and found out it was limited to 720p.

It took me lots of e-mailing back and forth calling garbage on Ubisoft then eventually they changed the PSN Store description text down to "for the first time in HD" and refunded my PSN account.

For some years I have been buying my games because I can afford it, and because I do not have time to play too many.
But when I was a kid with no money, and played half of my stuff without paying for it, I did in fact, surprisingly ALSO dump my own ROMs on DS just so I could have all my games in a flashcart instead of carrying the cards around.
So well.. people DO dump their own ROMs too. SOMETIMES, I know.
