@WaveBoy I agree, and I think the issue is they kept smooth 3D animations instead of intentionally cutting frames to leave space for imagination to fill it in. Old sprite-based animations either have detail missing (visible pixels) or few frames (not 60fps, not even 30 sometimes) so our brains fill in the blanks and we get an amazing time. Same reason why even though cinema movies are 24fps and if you pause them all frames have lots of blur, it was pretty much kept that way because then the movies seem more "real" when the spectator's immagination fills in the blanks. Some modern 3D games are more polished in that sense, so the animations have frames removed and/or blurred on purpose. King of Fighters series comes to ming. Final Fight too I think. They should have used this technique in Bloodstained, but maybe they were already taking too long as it is.
I am sure the game itself is awesome, graphics don't define a game bla bla bla (I agree with it) but it is still a shame that Square did not save up higher resolution background images back then, otherwise this edition could have used such stuff. The disparity between characters definition and the blurred backgrounds is a bit striking.
The 3DS is the ONLY system in the games market capable of effortless stereoscopic 3D gaming. Imagine the SEGA Classics or Excite Bike etc without it. Would that many people bother getting them on 3DS?
Same as comparing early early times Hollywood studios quality control VS today's youtube-fueled content that is spread all over. Game creation has gone out of "control". Yes, Nintendo could provide a "premium, Nintendo endorsed, closely worked with us during all the dev cycle" seal to some special games, but that's as far as control could go nowadays.
@EasyDaRon People love blatant copies (you can also call it stolen work if you will) as long as it is labeled "homage" or "inspired by" or "love letter".
@JohnnyC I did not say it was not stealing. If you simply say "piracy is stealing, simple as that", you are talking about an isolated fact and yes I agree, piracy is stealing. What I was talking about is the whole situation going on around it. THAT is really complex. The consequences, the concepts, the different solutions and interests involved. From all sides.
@JohnnyC
Yes the PS1 was very much hacked but the whole piracy debate is so complex and difficult. For example, it is also said that the PlayStation brand only became this powerful and popular precisely because the pirated games made it a really widespread gaming console (it was very new to the gaming scene while SEGA and Nintendo were king).
Another argument is people being tired of getting deceived into legitimately buying games that turn out to be a huge disappointment. Even after seeing reviews and trailers. So these people play the games for themselves and buy them after they are sure.
Yeah I know that leechers and cheaters and people with bad intention use the same "excuses" do just do wrong stuff. But then, that is not the case with hacking/piracy only. Ill-intentioned people abuse law systems to make profit and so on.
So unfortunately, it is really really really difficult to come to any conclusion about hacking / "piracy" etc.
Sadly, the "final batch late releases" (games that came out after the console had stopped being made) for Dreamcast, Megadrive, Neogeo, and some other were much better quality stuff than this..
@Retupmocnin I feel the same. Just watched some graphics comparison video, and both versions look good in their own way. None is better or worse than the other. The "old" 2D graphics are really detailed and charming. So I was thinking "well I'd enjoy any of the two but since I like stereoscopic 3D on 3DS games I may get the remake". Well I guess not, afterall. I already have the original old game too, just never finished it. Maybe I'll just get that one completed. And no 60fps is also kinda bad (not so important for this game, but still..)
@ALinkttPresent
I don't believe "turned out to be false" is a wise choice of words.
It just was not proven enough to be considered official.
Most cases of harrassment and abuse end up never being proven legally even if they are true.
I am not saying it was all true, but nobody can say it was all untrue either.
I personally know several people who suffered abuse of various types and "cannot prove it", of course, because they did not prepare beforehand to have it recorded or evidenced. That's how this world goes.
Contrary to what they stated, they should secure two or three very very good and interesting EXCLUSIVE games on lauch, possibly bundling one or two with their systems. Like Nintendo did with Super Mario World and the SNES. THAT alone would make the console much more appealing.
Video above makes wonderful promises but zero of the "unique mechanics" is shown. Hopefully the game will deliver interesting and not overly-complicated puzzles that actually make use of the heat/cold aspect. Pixeljunk Shooter back on PS3/4 made wonderful use of the hot/cold/additional-elements idea..
Sorry to be the grumpy one but I watched some gameplay videos and it just PALES in comparison to Rez. Comparing it to Rez makes it a joke. Bland, "common" environments, uninspired generic dubstep music, and no feeling of impact. Rez is trippy, unique, and charismatic in so many ways.
@PolarExperience I have to admit maybe you are right.. At first I listened to the new songs from this article and thought "yeah that is actually nice" but then after reading your comment I searched for Escape from the City and that is a whole superior level of Sonic vibes..
@The_Legged_One @HollowGrapeJ Maybe Sonic could run around carrying heavy backpacks as a handicap, like when Goku went training in Dragonball at some point(s?)..
@masterLEON
I agree. Had no idea it was 200mb+
That said, maybe I still think they were supposed to be part of the main pack, so the main "directory" or listing or headers, or whatever for these games were already implemented, but the main content of the games was cut from the package. They were "lucky" to be already accounted for as part of the main game's structure, or so to speak, in non-technical terms.
The others were not so as DLC, they use the main game's internal separate gateway for additional games. That is what would make sense in my head, with the little info we have.
@JaxonH Problem with games ported from mobile is that 99% of the time we only see a resolution bump. Kind of the same issue as games ported from PS2/3 to current gen consoles or PCs. There is no effort into upgrading the game content to fully utilize the new target platform. THAT is the bad feeling people mean when they complain about it. Feels like a secondary aftertought product, independent on it being fun or not. Also usually mobile games controls can translate badly/poorly into the console versions. Not the case here as it is a racing game so, originally, it was supposed to be a gamepad/controller game afterall. BUT from other people's comments, gameplay seems to remain a bit over-simplified, something that was inherited from the mobile version and, again, was not given a proper console-centric overhaul. So you see, people are not really being picky when they say "it is a mobile game". It would be really nice if the game was a re-make, not a port. Remember RE1 PSX -> RE1 Gamecube and so on.
Why not shift from update "News" to a small notification on the homepage interface? Like a ribbon at the side or something that changes color or blinks when an update is released so that people will just know about it.
So can I 100% play and enjoy this without EVER touching Pokemon Go? I do not play Pokemon Go because I simply have no time whatsoever for that, and I don't plan to, but I am interested in this for the same reason (seems like an easy, enjoyable portable adventure I can go through in my little spare time on trains etc).
Do you guys know about "The Legend of the Hero", a base story pattern and pacing that a staggering amount of movies books comics and etc follow? I guess there is something similar for short, one-minute entertainment-oriented media, so it ties all together in a way (popular music's pacing and the video's content)
@FragRed That seems to be the selling point? The "real" tamagochi, true experience. Otherwise you can get tons of more modernized stuff on cellphones or other devices.
If they improve on the loading times over the originals, it will probably be a great game, as it already was. Loading was absurdly long, like one minute or so every time you died or changed levels or whatever. I stopped playing the original because of that, sadly.
@NintendoFan4Lyf Some games actually do have that kind of thing. Higher resolution textures, or additional dialogue files and so on that you can get for free. On PC though. I honestly don't know about the Nintendo eShop specifically.
I actually experienced Luigi's Mansion on a 3DTV using some old nVidia Geforce line card (can't remember, but around 2012). Yes I did own a legitimate copy of the original game. Two in fact, Japanese and US. Anyway it was so pleasing and perfect for 3D, that I think I will buy this version! Love Luigi's Mansion 1 more than the 2nd one actually.
@Bulbatron Yes, changing music and dialog for games that were already great is usually due to licensing concerns and, more often than not, the companies porting the games don't want to use much money so the results are worse than the original. Sad.
@Cobalt To be fair, whoever was working at Square Enix at that time was kinda genius to already think future-proof and pack hi-res textures in the original game. I am not kidding. Try and find some PS2 emulator hi-res screenshots of some games, and you will see Square games often look WAY better than other companies'. I remember was really surprised when I myself saw FFX, FFXII etc running on high resolution emulation from base, original, unmodified copies of the games. They look like the pic you posted, if not better.
