Re: Opinion: Animal Crossing On Switch 2 Has Me Equal Parts Buzzing And Baffled

emayekayee

I hate to say it, but Nintendo is repeating a very unfortunate trend with the Switch 2. Few people remember that the 1st couple of years Switch releases were mostly WiiU ports. Having owned a WiiU (and most of its best games) I can tell you that there was little reason to buy a Switch at launch. Interestingly enough, it was ACNH that was the tipping point to buy a Switch for our house.
Now Nintendo is upcycling all of its last gen content again, and leaving many of us with no "killer app" to warrant an upgrade. It might be Metroid 4, for me, but I'm going to need to see a lot of positive reviews before I pull the trigger.

Re: Talking Point: Are You Excited At All For Switch 2 GameChat?

emayekayee

The biggest disappointment (for me) in the Switch 2 Direct was the amount of time devoted to the chat/video share features. I might do a voice chat while playing Mario Kart with distant family, but even the Wii Chat microphone was a waste of time, and things haven't changed much in the decade+ since.

Re: Talking Point: What We Expect From The Switch 2 Direct

emayekayee

There has to be Metroid Prime 4 gameplay footage. I won't be purchasing a switch 2 until there's a "Killer App". MP4 would go a long way to convince me to upgrade. 8 years later, people forget that the 1st year of Switch was mostly Wii U ports. With backwards compatibility for their huge Switch library, Nintendo won't be able to play that card again.... And ports of AAA and Indie titles that I already own on PC won't cut it for me, either.

Re: Review: Golden Sun - A Radiant RPG, Once It Gets Going

emayekayee

I'm excited to try these games as I never owned a GBA, in fact the entire line of Nintendo handhelds is a giant blind spot for me. What's funny is I always that the Golden Sun games were the ones with a light sensor built into the cartridges as part of the gameplay mechanic. Turns out I was confusing it Boktai. Oops

Re: Talking Point: What Will The 'Switch 2' Actually Be Called?

emayekayee

I was going to suggest "Nintendo Super Switch".
I was shocked by how many people were confused by the Wii U branding. Of course I couldn't tell you anything about which Xbox Skew does what these days, so what do I know.

They can call it whatever they want as long as it is backwards compatible with my current physical games. If they don't do that, it would take a few years of a library buildup for me to bother getting one.

Re: My Nintendo Store Adds Super Mario Shopping Bag (US)

emayekayee

The shipping is a little ridiculous. I live in Seattle and it would cost me less to drive up to the Redmond warehouse that this stuff ships from. That being said, this bag is my 4th Platinum Points purchase, and I really like the items. Now I wonder if Gold Points will ever be worth anything.

Re: Talking Point: The Games We Got Rid Of - What Were We Thinking?

emayekayee

I'm in my early 40's. I've made a LOT of important life decisions. some good, some bad. I think If I had a time machine and could go back to give myself a piece of advice, it would be to not give away my Gamecube/Controllers/Games/Component Video cable.
I bought a Wii, like everyone else, and moved forward. I still wish I had that GC Collection. I recently bought a copy of Double Dash on Ebay and it set me back about $90 USD. Needless to say, my WiiU and Switch (plus games) will remain with me until the day I die. Who knows? by 20XX, if they still function they might really be worth something in the estate sale
*Edit. I'm not even a collector or worried about the value. I just think it would be really fun to still throw down some Soul Calibur II, Monkey Ball 2 or Double Dash (with the only legitimate version of Bob Bomb Blast!!!) with some friends

Re: Feature: So, Which Zelda Games Aren't On Switch Yet?

emayekayee

I already own TP and WW on original hardware and the HD remasters on WiiU. I can't imagine a Switch port would look much better than those. I'd say give me four swords, but in reality I've barely touched Minish Cap or Oracles because I'm still cranking away on TotK

Re: Talking Point: How Does Switch's Year 7 Compare To Previous Nintendo Consoles?

emayekayee

This comment is buried way down low, but this thought occurred to me a week after reading the article. I didn't purchase a Switch until 2020, but the main reason is that the first 2-3 years of the console were plagued by releases of Wii U ports (games I already owned) and indie darlings (games I could get cheaper on Steam Sales). The Switch was essentially the first Nintendo console with this long of a life, but for me it only feels three years old, because it's only been getting new content that I wanted to play since the pandemic started. Luckily I purchased a Switch about a week before they were impossible to find. I Animal Crossed my way through 3 months of unemployment because COVID put the company that I worked for out of business. Mario Odyssey is the only Switch game I own that was released prior to AC:NH.

Re: Poll: Do You Want Gyroids To Return In Animal Crossing: New Horizons?

emayekayee

I was never a fan of the Gyroids. They cluttered up my house/inventory and collecting an entire set of any of them was needlessly time consuming. (this coming from someone who's played thousands of hours of AC, CF, and NH)
If we're adding new content, where's Copper and Booker. Where's Pelly and Phyllis? I know Resetti "retired" but isn't a remote island getaway the perfect place for a someone who's had a long career and deserves a little rest? We get Label, Kicks, and Leif, but no Wendell? Gyroids should be far down the list of things to add.

Re: Star Wars Episode I: Racer Is Getting Remastered For Switch

emayekayee

This game was about the only redeemable thing from Episode 1. It was a blast on PC. I remember playing on my cousin's N64 and thinking it wasn't even the same game. The recent steam release is almost unplayable with lousy gamepad support. If this gets a true remake or even a remaster with Switch Pro controller support, I'm in for a third purchase.

Re: Westwood's Classic Blade Runner Is Getting An Enhanced Edition On Switch

emayekayee

I'm very excited about this. I remember reading a very long form article in PC Gamer about this game and how the "Voxel" engine was going to revolutionized gaming. I bought the game and didn't play much of it. I was young and hadn't seen Rlade runner yet. Also, it didn't play like the Sierra and Lucas Arts adventure games I was used to. I should break out my old video game crateand see if the CD-ROM is still in there......

Re: Feature: Best Nintendo Switch Games - The Best Switch Games 2020

emayekayee

Not to be THAT guy, but this list should be more worrisome than anything. I'm buying a Switch for the first time next week so that my wife and I can finally play a new Animal Crossing. With the exception of a few titles (Link's Awakening, Mario's Odyssey, and Luigi's Mansion specifically) I already own most of these games on Wii U or PC. And most of the PC games were purchased significantly cheaper and are higher quality products. I've been a Nintendo fan since my fist NES, but it says something that it took until the 3 year anniversary for there to be a release that I "need" to buy a Switch for.

Re: Poll: Have Your Joy-Con Been Drifting?

emayekayee

I did have to repair a bad right analog sick on my WiiU gamepad. I'm assuming it's a similar part on the joy cons. I have this issue on an Xbox 360 gamepad, but it's almost 8 years old at this point. I'm guessing the springs that would make this less of an issue are smaller in the joy cons so the drift happens sooner.
