Ahead of this weekend's Pokémon Day Virtual Concert featuring Post Malone, the singer has released a brand new cover song that's available to stream right now.
The track – a cover of Hootie and the Blowfish’s 1995 hit 'Only Wanna Be with You' – can be heard up above. The original record was last seen on the Billboard charts 25 years ago, meaning it fits right in with Pokémon's 25th anniversary celebrations.
It'll feature in the concert as part of Post Malone's performance, which will be available to watch on Pokémon's YouTube and Twitch channels at 4pm PT / 7pm ET on 27th February (12am GMT / 1am CET 28th February). You can listen to the song via your favourite streaming services here.
Earlier today, The Pokémon Company announced that it will host a special Pokémon Presents livestream tomorrow, no doubt showcasing upcoming games/products that will be released for the anniversary.

I am positive diamond and pearl or gold and silver will be announced but who knows
We truly live in the worst timeline. Post Malone covering Hootie and the Blowfish.
@Thoughts Pokémon is aimed at kids, and yes, a lot of people grew up with it and still play it as adults, but the fact of the matter is that it is mainly aimed for children, and yes, I can see children appreciating this.
Heh, I actually dig it.
It's pretty good! I like it!
Well I wasn't expecting it to sound like that from his other songs I've heard! It actually sounds suitably wholesome.
Not my cup of tea though.. I prefer the aulde 90s Pokemon music tracks.
Post Malone is such an odd choice of artist
I love Post Malone, it's pretty hype to see him doing this kind of thing... it's not his type of music, but hey, it's not that bad!
Literal, flippant, obnoxious trash. If there were even an ounce of soul left in this series that hadn't already been crushed by TPC, it died with this. Can it possibly get any more corporate? Not even children would respond positively to this invitation to get bullied in music form. Who are these eight year olds who all unaccountably like Pokemon, "Post Malone," and Hootie and the Blowfish? What is this marketing strategy? Is there a reason no one has been let go for this?
They still dont know that their main audience aren't 8 years old. Seriously, the big Pokemon fans are 18-25 years old by now.
I won't be listening to the full thing since I'm not 12 but someone on another forum pointed out a very interesting lyric change at the 3.29 mark which has gone from "tangled up in blue" to "tangled up in pearl". Hmmmm...
I’m an old person anyway, but but give me Jesus lizard or the pixies, or if we are talking hip hop like this person is supposed to be I’ll take public enemy or the wu tang thank You! Xxx or withering heights by Kate bush xx
@fadedcolors Agree with you, maybe some day they will understand that kids of this day only care about Fortnite, Minecraft and games like Among Us and I understand that trying to reach for a new generation it’s important but they should never forget their true fan base
@Dragonslacker1 funny story, I met the guitarist and David Yow from Jesus Lizard because one of my buddies knew his best friend from high school (it was my buddy's friend's dad, confusing, I know). Yow told us about how he and his friend would trade Beatles trivia in their freshman year of HS and insisted my friend had no knowledge of them (he also cut my friend off when he tried to explain that he liked Revolver by making the Beaker, of muppets fame, sound). It was just bizarre to witness. Anyway, I guess they could make interesting music for Pokémon. Lol
@Menardi we get it, your upset
really not interested anyway, post malone seems like an odd choice considering his demographic is adults and his songs aren't usually kid friendly, with a few exceptions.
Not sure why this song in particular but sure why not
This was actually a good cover.
So what does the song have to do with Pokemon? I didn't hear it mention Pokemon once in the song. I figured it was going to be like a parody not only a cover.
I made it about 30 seconds into the song. I guess this is what the kiddos like these days.
I do wonder why the Ecruteak City/Cianwood City theme is in there. The the only pokemon game tune I can make out
And I thought the Sonic series had done some questionable stuff with music, AKON + Dreams Come True "remix" comes to mind.
@FluffiestP1llow Disappointed, more like.
yes!!! This is an old Hootie and the Blowfish song. It was SUPER popular.. these guys are very cool.. this re-mix is awesome though!
@samuraicop “that’s not how a decent, normal, down-to-earth human being is presenting himself”
What?
“You don’t see in a lifetime people tattoed on their face, in real life”
Seriously, what? What rock have you been living under? Those statements are straight outta 80s.
@Ironman30 cool story thanks for sharing. I watch some YouTube videos of the lizard and love that yow dives in the crowd at the start. I don’t know what would be good for Pokemon, but I think I dislike all these rap/hip hop people today,! Cool picture of mr hicks xx
OMG, the COMPRESSION on this track! Is that a joke? It's unbearable. The song is nice but it sounds like music coming from a phone speaker with some dirt stuck in it. And I though Red Hot Chilli Pepped were bad. 😨
@horizoniki @samuraicop to be fair though, regardless of tattoos, if this was meant to be directed at kids they should have chosen a better role model.
Good combination of the Ecruteak theme with a completely unrelated piece of music. I still can't say this is something I might've asked for, but cool that they're making something nice out of it.
What does this have to do with Pokemon? What, did they just slap pikachu's tail on the cover, put the Pokemon logo in the top left, and called it a day. Now, why am I saying this? Because the lyrics have NOTHING to do with the games. I don't hear "Pikachu" "Fire" "Red" "Ruby" "Pearl" "Mega Evolution" or anything REMOTELY RELATED to Pokemon. If your going to make a song based on Pokemon, at least try! I know Malone is a very talented singer, but his standards for this? That's just lazy. Just a remake of a song from the 90's that's NOT related to Pokemon. Hooray.
