Re: Just 2% of Ubisoft's Q3 Sales Were for Wii U

citizenerased

Insert generic complaint about Ubisoft's lack of effort, even though it's simply a matter of install base and Nintendo fans buying notoriously few 3rd party titles. It's not a matter of those dozens (!) of people boycotting Ubisoft, most people who own the Wii U don't even know about all that drama.

If Rayman had released 6 months earlier, there's no way it would've sold 3 times more. Which it did thanks to its multiplatform release. Not that it sold well.

The install base isn't there, I'd like to thank Ubisoft for giving it a serious shot, though.

Re: Wii Fit No Substitute For Real Exercise According To Academic Research

@johndevine Because as soon as you do exercises in front of a TV, they stop being exercises? You're not making any sense. Have you even tried it out? How is doing 50 pushups in Wii Fit any different from doing 50 pushups in a workout at the gym? How is joggig in one place in front of your TV for 15 minutes, different from jogging on a treadmill at the gym for 15 minutes?

Of course, if you just play a couple of minigames that hardly require your body, it's not going to be very useful. But the potential is there.

Re: Nintendo Is Here To Stay And Will Do Very Well This Year, States Amazon UK Games Boss

People feel more passionate about what Nintendo does cause they've been around for so long and people grew up on their systems. Any failure will of course be blown out of proportion.

Good to see Amazon UK supporting Nintendo, even if Amazon US is not. (No idea whether that's Nintendo's or Amazon's fault.) Amazon has had my business and will continue to have it as long as they keep up the excellent customer support and fantastic prices.

Re: Nintendo of America Issues Refunds After Warner Bros. Cancels Batman: Arkham Origins Wii U DLC

Man, why aren't any 3rd party developers bringing games / content to Wii U anymore? I'm going to stop buying 3rd party games / content!

Seriously though, this does feel like the vicious cycle of a dying console. Good thing Nintendo has its first party games and some indie support, but this isn't looking good.

Kinda sad to see people taking this so personal (as always), it's just business, guys. Do you expect publishers to lose money out of the goodness in their heart? =/

Re: Video: The 10 Biggest Wii U Games Of 2014

citizenerased

This is honestly a pretty weak list, and that's disregarding the fact that X likely won't make it this year, and we have no concrete release date on many of these titles (including Bayonetta 2 and Super Smash).

I blame Nintendo for never showing titles more than a few months ahead. You know they're gonna show titles at E3 that will release this holiday, why not show them before, build some hype? I'm looking for an excuse to buy a Wii U here, Nintendo.

Also, lol @ calling Need For Speed, Deux Ex, Monster Hunter and Resident Evil "new", when they're all ports from older games.

Re: Preview: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Fact is the Wii U has a ton of excellent platformers and is lacking in a lot of other genres. Would've preferred to see Retro do something with those.

Of course, this'll be an excellent titles regardless. But I do think it's lacking in innovations. Where's the catch? New secondary characters and dynamic camera angles? =/

Re: Kickstarter Research Highlights Low Delivery Rates of Game Projects

citizenerased

Not showing the percentage of games that are still in development is a significant flaw to these statistics. The percentages shown don't even add up to 50%. The delivery rates could very well be around 70-80% for all years, which would be perfectly acceptable. Time will just have to tell.

Literally the only thing these statistics prove is "it takes a while to make a game" and "basement studios asking for a $5000 budget might not be entirely trustworthy".

Re: Nintendo Confirms Major Reductions In Sales and Financial Projections

On the plus side, when Nintendo's hardware doesn't deliver sales (Gamecube, N64), the software still can deliver quality (see: some of the highest rated games ever).

But I guess we can kiss 3rd party support almost complete goodbye at this point. Not counting indies.

Personally hoping to see Nintendo and Sony team up with hardware next time around, then I'll only need to buy one console.

Re: Poll: Nintendo and the Wii U Fight For Your Attention in This Busiest of Gaming Months

citizenerased

I don't see Nintendo impressing either the non-gaming crowd that they captured with Wii (they've got tablets; gamepad won't impress them) nor regaining the main gaming crowd, that has moved on (since the PS2 days) to pretty graphics, violence, online multiplayer and grey/brown and other games that Nintendo isn't offering.

That leaves families and Nintendo fans - such as you, the person reading this. There simply aren't 100 million of those. This'll probably sell a bit more than the Cube and N64. Do I mind? No, I just want my quality first party Nintendo titles, along with some indie goodness. Console sales won't impact that. Although I do hope Nintendo starts adding some more franchises to the bunch. They're going to have to, when even Mario isn't selling consoles.

Re: Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of the 'New Gen' Environment for Wii U?

citizenerased

The Wii U will be a Nintendo-only system, even more so than the Wii (let's not pretend that had fantastic 3rd party support). We'll see more indies, though, which I'm excited about.

I just picked up a secondhand PS3 for all the games I've missed out on, and I'll likely pick up a secondhand PS4 at the end of this generation. I simply care more about Nintendo's games than the big blockbusters, and playing them, I feel I've made the right choice. Nintendo is still all about gameplay.

I have a huge backlog anyway (50+ games). Don't have a Wii U yet, I'll probably get it next year.

Re: Review: Sonic Lost World (Wii U)

@Peach64 While I see where you're coming from, because I do feel NintendoLife overrates "bigger" and divisive games, always being on the higher end of the scale and giving them the benefit of the doubt, fact is according to GameRankings their average score is 64.62%, whereas Edge's is 64.53%. That's a negligible difference. And well under the average of gaming reviews as a whole. Eurogamer is on 66.80%, btw.
