Re: Soapbox: I'm Secretly Terrified Of An All-Digital Gaming Future

I like owning Special Editions - Even Japanese ones - with extra art books/soundtrack cds/ goodies etc.
I panicked BIG TIME when I thought I had lost my Donkey Kong Country 3ds Cartridge with my save file on it ( fortunately, I found it again)
I like Digital because it provides better revenue for Game designers. ..
I like small Independent Game shops - One example is the excellent "Game Park" in Budapest, hungary.
Shops like GAME are just horrible to enter, horrible to buy from yet provide a high street presence and therefore Marketing and advertising for Game companies. .. If you pre-order - there is a good chance you can get your copy/new console on time.
Amazon - well, it sucks that you can't get a SWITCH at midnight launch lol or that your release day delivery might not arrive.
DOwnload - you can get First parties at midnight and pre-loading is a good thing - Cash flow is a huge issue for game companies and earlier cashflow helps them..
There are pros and cons in both camps - (recently I had my Fire Emblem Fates 3ds SPECIAL EDITION Cartridge stolen in my 3ds - it broke my heart and I can't get back).
Cloud saves are a good thing.
Cloud streaming - well LAG and unreliable connections sounds horrible - I don't think I will support Cloud streaming of games ( except maybe turn based games. .
I want the physical copies sitting only shelf but I guess when the first Digital download Only console comes out. . . .sigh

@full_metal_opera Lol , no offence taken - there is no Corporate identity here I know - there is a huge Joy to owning physical copies- In my early days of gaming - I would trade in finished or games that I didn't like - Now? - Yes! I do like to own Special Editions of games and even some imports as a result - I own far too many amiibos ( lol ).
I do wish , however , that Download increases - it does give nintendo more money to play with - and this is important with games like Xenoblade C2 for example - which didn't sell 2 million( I don't think) but has high development costs - It's obviously a fantastic game - To get an XBC3 - the company looks at the profit made. . .
I also dread to think monetisation methods that the other consoles get - coming to SWITCH. I sold my PS4 and XBone as a result of that . ( I take my hat off to CAPCOM for not following the micro transaction route with MHWorld) - I won't be touching EA , GEARS, Any loot crate nonsense etc. We know all the First Party Ninty games Wii U underperformed because of lack of units out there. I'm happy to see the ports - I expect no-one will end up paying $60 for physical for DK though

@Ogbert @chardir @full_metal_opera It's £42 for MK8 on Amazon uk - Retail price is £49.99 on eshop. My point being is that you don't have to pay the Full MRRP. That was my point - you misunderstood?

In regard to Pricing - DKCTF is a Nintendo Selects on Wii U at £19.99 - you have a choice to buy it at that price on disc or DL for Wii U.
On Cartridge, for SWITCH with some Extra Content. The retail price is £59.99 ( I can't find an Amazon uk price for this) but Amazon will probably sell it at £49.99 on release ( please tell me if I'm wrong - I don't have a crystal ball here).
DKCTF for SWITCH is for people who haven't played it /don't own a wii U . If Nintendo start releasing First party Top Quality Games with new content at a cheap price - 2 things happen. 1 - It sets a precedent and customers then expect all games to be that price. 2. Nintendo get less money - If Nintendo get less money - there is less incentive and budget to develop incredible quality games.
So - really - the best way to help your hobby/gaming lifestyle is to support your favourite system that you love by buying Download. Nintendo make the most profit and that helps us Nintendo gamers more than most people know.
I thought Ogbert was correct btw It is totally an incredible game worth that price. .
