Re: Switch Owners Choose To Play EA Games On Other Platforms, Says Company CEO

cammy

Seems a bit of a "catch 22" in his logic there.

We won't make a full game on the switch because people play on other platforms, which means means our data shows that people don't play our games on the switch, so we won't make full games on the switch...

So why can you get the Sims 4 on PS4 when the best way to play it is with a keyboard and mouse? Hmm.

Re: Gallery: Here's What The Nintendo Switch Lite Looks Like

cammy

@tr573 I think know what @bloodmetal is talking... We have two switches in our house but we made the mistake of buying everyone's eshop games using my account ... as I'm the Dad, the one with the credit card, etc.

Now only I can play those games on the second switch. So the games I bought for my son (or anyone else in my house)... he must use my account (which means either overwriting my saves or starting from the beginning). I can't transfer the games to his account either.

Not a problem if you go physical.

Re: Animal Crossing: New Horizons Will Not Support Cloud Saves

cammy

Ah man. We have two switches in the house and it's great that games played on one are saved on the other. We already have one switch marked as the "Splatoon" switch.

Seeing Animal Crossing is going to be one of those games played by multiple people in our house, it's going to be a pain to manage.

Re: Furi's Freedom Update Is Now Live On The Nintendo Switch

cammy

I've been stuck at one boss battle for months and my desire to push though is tending towards diminishing returns. (So many other games that you can just play and have fun). So the ability to skip part of the fight might get me to play through the rest of the game, because the visuals and music are amazing.

Re: Try Not To Get Too Angry At The First 'Hero' Shot From The Upcoming Monster Hunter Movie

cammy

The plot sounds exactly like a Paul W. S. Anderson movie tbh.

I really enjoy the "Resident Evil" movies, brilliant pure b-movie stuff with stupid fun monster but not really "Resident Evil" as the games I've played.

I expect the MH movie to be the same. It'll have monsters from the game and lots of nods to the fans of the game series, but won't be the game made into a movie. So the plot... is as I expect.

Re: Rumour: Google Is Creating A Gaming Platform To Rival Switch, PS4 and Xbox

cammy

Google are not content makers. They are not really even content disturbers, but more platform makers.

I think a new console would need both solid content creation, management and distribution and hardware is nearly secondary to that. It's not impossible (see Microsoft), but they'll have to come a long way.

And just buying existing dev studios is only a step towards that. Without the know-how of everything else, I don't see that as any great sign.

I fear Google's plan is: "if we build it, they will come"... which gaming history has shown to be disastrous. They need to sell the experience to the gamer first and then sell the platform to the other studios... Having some hardware will only sell to google fans. Good luck to them. I'll be curious to see what they do.

Re: The Lost Child Is Bringing Cthulhu-Inspired Demons To Switch This Year

cammy

Looks like they raided a Call of Cthulhu roleplaying book for their monster descriptions and thought they'd make excellent "demons" and utterly missing the point about what makes Cthulhu/Lovecraft mythos interesting (the whole cosmic horror, beyond man's understanding, etc. etc not just "evil deities"). But hey, YMMV.

Lack of gameplay is just the icing on top.

Re: New DOOM Update Adds Motion Controls On Nintendo Switch

cammy

@GameOtaku I've been using the dual sticks with Splatoon 2 alright, but always end up going for weapons that don't depend on accuracy as much because as @Nincompoop points out, they aren't as accurate. I find it a little too slow.

That said, in the single player campaign for Doom, I haven't had a problem at all with using dual sticks.

Re: New DOOM Update Adds Motion Controls On Nintendo Switch

cammy

Do people play with the gyro controls? I tried it when I got splatoon 2, but it never felt comfortable or accurate. Maybe I'm just old fashioned and too used to the PC and mouse format for it.

I'll give it shot again on Doom tonight. What does the "motion melee" do?

Re: Nintendo Switch Online Service Will Go Live This September

cammy

Not particularly excited to have to pay. The games for the Switch are expensive enough and without MarioKart, Arms and Splatoon 2 become a lot more boring.

I do hope the price is per console and not user. My son and daughter both play online and I'm not willing to pay for it three times.

Re: Rainway Beta Is Live, But There's Nothing But Disappointment For Switch Owners

cammy

There has been a flow of issues and fixes from Rainway since the Sunday release. Most of the time on Sunday nothing loaded at all for me, much like what was happening in the video in the OP -
because they hadn't enough servers up to handle load. I got it to work from my gaming PC Monday evening to my laptop pretty well but for some reason it didn't like my mouse so I couldn't play much. I'll try it again over the weekend.

They did say that this release is only for PC and browsers, not the Switch. They never said they have dropped the Switch. I'm kinda still hoping that once they sort most of the issues out on the PC that the Switch app will come about. The one thing I love about the switch is that I can curl up on the sofa and play games just as easily as watching on the TV.

If I could play my PC games in the same easy way, it would be amazing to play Borderlands, Fallout 4, etc. sitting on my sofa.

Re: Learn How To Code Your Own Games With FUZE4 Nintendo Switch Later This Year

cammy

I'd have to see the programming interface. I'm guessing it's drag and drop right? Maybe a little like RPGMaker? Or can you can transfer the code between PC and the Switch..

I wonder if they integrate with any of the other teaching code projects out there like Hour of Code or Scratch, because then it'd certainly be interesting for my kids.

Re: Nintendo Wants Everyone In Your House To Have Their Own Switch

cammy

Man, it's expensive enough that between myself and my two kids, we got one. We all love it, but I can't imagine us buying a second one until it's under or close €100 which won't happen until a few years into it's cycle. And that the games come down big time in price.

We have multiple *DS (2x 3DS, 1x 2DS) in the house though, because they hit that price point where it was cheap enough that we could get more than one for each of us play and had a big enough library of games to share between us and in some case it was cheap enough to buy multiple copies of games (like Smash Bros and Animal Crossing).

Maybe ... if ... Nintendo allow us to share or move games between accounts or allow us to have "family" sharing (like with Steam for example) and the price of the hardware drops...

Re: Soapbox: Breath Of The Wild Is Amazing, But Is It The 3D Zelda That Enthusiasts Expected?

cammy

I'm still in the middle of my first play-through and while I agree with some points (repetition of shrines, lack of cutscenes, etc.) — I disagree on that it should be more linear. I found the experience so far quite linear, you're guiding constantly to the next main thing, to the point I seek out every side-quest I can before moving on. The layout of the land, the characters you meet, the position of each of the divine beasts, difficulty level of enemies, etc. loads of constantly subtle guidance. You can veer off and I try other things, but it isn't as satisfying as doing so in Skyrim say - as the sidequests are short one note things. If it was more linear, it'd practically be a JRPG ... one main plot and lots of grinding via sidequests.

Personally that's my biggest disappointment, that there isn't a branching story lines and plots or that the world feels alive and stuff can happen unexpectedly. It's still one great experience and one of my favourite games right now.

Before BOW was announced, an open world game with the gameplay and design of Nintendo was my ultimate imaginary title... and BOW doesn't disappoint.. mostly. Just wish it was a little more "open" and felt more like a "world" you could get lost in.

Re: Monster Hunter: World Confirmed for Rival Platforms, is Skipping Nintendo Switch

cammy

I've kind of got bored of the Monster Hunter series on the 3DS. I felt in love with Tri because it had a bit of an immersive feel to the game, which has steadily been removed from every iteration. It's still fun, but it lost that lovely feeling of discovering monsters fighting each other or just that they appear to be real animals rather than gaming challenges.

World looks like it brings that back, so personally I'm disappointed it's not making it's way to Switch. I think I'll be skipping on MH XX now. (Once I get a switch of course..).

Re: The 3DS Proves to Be a Popular Music Player in Japan

cammy

Hmm. No. With my phone (which is smaller) providing (I assume) much better music playing choices, it's unlikely I would turn to my 3DS for music. However I did use it for playing smash bros soundtrack. We even hooked it up a stereo so my son could enjoy his favourite track.

I figure my 10yo daughter would make use of this feature though.
