Re: Rayman Legends is Coming to Wii U, Supports NFC

cammy

Oh my. I haven't been bothered by the Wii U really. Next gen graphics. Aren't all consoles now "next gen"? Tablet. Interesting but I' have my 3DS thanks. NFC... oh like skylander stuff. Okay.

No wait... you can collect geeky statues like the character from Rayman or the dude from Assassin Cred that do stuff in game... I think it tripped a switch in my brain and now my geek collector instinct has gone boom! What a neat idea and the potential is hugely geeky!

Re: Nintendo Posts First Annual Loss in 30 Years

@JimLad I think you have a point, but I think it's also something of a begrudery because of the Wii's runaway success and bringing in all the "casual" gamers to the hobby. "Hardcore" gamers look down on the Wii and subsequently Nintendo because of it.

Re: Talking Point: Could AR Games Drive eShop Sales?

I loved the AR idea and the potential seems missed complete. I had imagined being able to buy a board game and then using your 3DS to play on top of that. Like a real time strategy game, directly controlling pieces or even a action game where you're a helicoptor shooting zombies. Or if you play DnD and having a battlemap and using your 3DS to view and control the battles... of course none of that seems to have materialised at all.

Re: Nintendo Download: 19th April 2012 (Europe)

Colors! 3D - finally. Can't wait to download it. I spent so much time with the homebrew version of it on the DS.

I'm assuming "the 3d machine" is the same one that was free a few months back? I don't think I'd pay for it to have it permanently. But perhaps that means there is a chance of longer paid-for content coming?

Re: Talking Point: Is Wii U's Power Really That Important?

cammy

Also to note, as someone that isn't a casual gamer nor a true "hardcore" gamer, now that I have my 3DS, I haven't played or used my Wii since. It's become our Netflix player for the TV. So I think graphics/power is vital to the experience. If you're going to have an RPG on the system, beautiful visuals are a must and people will compare between systems.

Re: Talking Point: Is Wii U's Power Really That Important?

I think no matter what the Wii U is going to be an uphill battle. I love my 3DS and think it's an amazing upgrade to the DSi, but all my fellow gamer friends (who would consider themselves hardcore gamers) dismiss Nintendo anything out of hand. The meme has been set in place with the overwhelmingly amazing success of the Wii as a casual gaming platform, that nintendo is for kids and casual players. The Wii U, IMHO, must equal or outmatch the next crop of consoles in terms of power so that it can't be dismissed out of hand. A new controller, while I think is certainly interesting, will not sell it unless there is a killer game behind it.

Re: Rhythm Thief Slides Back to July in North America

I didn't think this game was for me either - but I've played the demo so many times that I've been converted. Though I'm going to have to wait a while before I get it, it wouldn't get a look in while I'm still enjoying Kid Icarus.

@shinobi88 Isn't Kid Icarus, Resident Evil: Revelations or Metal Gear Solid 3D Snake Eater count as FPS for you?

Certainly Kid Icarus is giving me enough flick reaction FPS game playing, particularly the multiplayer which is a lot of fun.

Re: Hulu Plus Still On the Way to 3DS

What is "Nintendo Zone" with it's tempting trivia quizzes? Is that available over here in Europe?

TBH I'd be happy if they brought Netflix to us UK and Irish 3DS users now that Netflix is available here.

Re: Nintendo Issues Warning on 3D Image Safety for Kids

I would or more exactly, I did.

I wouldn't buy a new 3DS for a 6yo but I did buy a 2nd hand pink DS for my daughter's 6yo birthday.

I have a DSi myself and many of the features (the recorder, the camera, some of the DSiWare apps) are exactly the kind of thing a 6yo would love. My daughter's been eyeing my DSi since I made some mention of getting a 3DS when it comes out.

But yes, I wouldn't buy a 300 euro gaming device for a 6yo.

Re: La Mulana Developers Discuss Religious and Rating Issues

cammy

After reading their blog post "Problem of Faith", it's seems to be in part that their afraid that their cultural appropriation of Western religions and mythologies in their games might be offensive to, well, us.

Which is a fair point. Take Dante's Inferno for the xbox. It's completely offensive to the spirit of the Dante's Divine Comedy. Their not censoring to protect us, their censoring to cover up their misuse of our culture assets.

The other side is that they claim they can't afford multiple runs at Nintendo, so they want to try and make sure they pass Nintendo's filters in one go. I would hope therefore they would keep their self-censorship to a minimum.

IMHO
