At this point, I deadass just want the Switch 2 to be announced so I can stop seeing every other article with the title "switch 2 this" and "switch 2 that" and "omg, is this fuzzy screenshot proof of the switch 2" and "where is silksong." ...Okay, strictly speaking, that last one isn't about the switch 2 but I wish silksong would just get cancelled so it goes away.
FFS, if there's nothing to write about, just say so instead of YET ANOTHER switch 2 circle jerk.
That's, like... the weirdest flex of "gambling addiction mechanics really work and they worked wonders on me" that I can remember reading. You okay?? I don't know how you treat Stockholm Syndrome for gaming... :/
@1day @GamingFan4Lyf that's fair. I hadn't had rating in mind at the time. But, yeah, the game has to be rated for the 'most' content, not the 'least,' for the rating to have meaning.
...why not just make it an option? Mario RPG remake could switch between the original and remake soundtrack with a simple menu option. The Halo:CE remaster could switch between original and remaster visuals on the fly with a button press. Why not simply have an option to switch between original and... not original artwork in this game?
Maybe you could say that option leaves everyone unhappy but reading all the furor around this really makes you realize everyone is unhappy regardless. People will either get mad that the original art is sexist or unrealistic or whatever tf they want to call it (I don't care; please don't explain it) or they'll get mad that alterations to the source material have been mad (which I feel ignores the fact that the entire remaster is an alteration of the source material).
My personal opinion is that there should be a toggle or no change to the original artwork but I'm also not going to go charging to every forum on earth, frothing at the keyboard, to scream about 'censorship.' If you're in that boat, just be honest that you enjoy seeing scantily clad characters in video games and move on with your life. There's a million places you can find r34 art of literally this exact character to satisfy those urges. I don't see any issue with that.
I can only speak for myself but I'm thoroughly sick of the art and thematic direction that 3d Mario games have been going in for well over a decade now. To be clear, I'm not criticizing the gameplay or the graphics or people who do like them; I just utterly hate them and their whole aesthetic. So to have a game like Astro Bot that does those mechanics so well and in its own universe without having to put up with all the stuff I viscerally hate about modern Mario is A+++ to me.
I absolutely love that you just straight up called Pam "alcoholic bus driver." It's 100% true, it just tickled me to see it put so baldly like that. XD
If there could be some easter egg that ties this into Cvstodia or to the Grievous Miracle I would be over the moon about this. I'll absolutely be watching this one on the horizon.
@OorWullie I really enjoyed Gone Home but I came to it not from NL's review and, if I had and that was what it said, I think I'd be as disappointed as you are. I would never say the narrative sticks with you or anything like that. It's a pretty simple story from start to finish but a reasonably emotional and relatable one.
@nkarafo I had soooo much fun just playing single player in the multiplayer mode back in the day. And I loved the variety of the stages and their little intro scenes. I still remember the homage to Blade Runner in the futuristic stage intro.
Speaking as someone who is well and truly sick of Mario the character and Mario-centric games, I've been excited for this since the reveal. I'm going to wait for full reviews, though, because I'm hoping for information that there's more depth to it than just a collect-a-thon. Nothing against those as the backbone of a game but I'm looking for a little more than that in a full $60 game.
@Johnny44 yesssssss, ffs. How is this a headline and worth a full conversation. Every. Single. DAY?!? Even if "everyday" is an exaggeration, something about this feels like it's been a headline every week for years now. If there's no Nintendo news... then there's no friggin news! Is there that little other stuff to write about?? This is getting so old.
I remember being blown away by the SNES version as a kid. I remember it was crazy tough but the FPS indoor sections were so cool back then (I was, like, 10 or so). But, ooooh, boy... I'm glad I'm mature enough now to know that those fond memories are just that: fond memories. There's no way 16-bit console FPS gameplay would hold up after near 30 years. Sometimes I think that's one of the biggest issues with the trend of these re-releases: it's banking on the novelty of being able to play these games from back then on modern consoles when the games... had issues. It feels like a cash in on us not remembering the games as well as we think.
I'm not bashing people for making it or people for getting it. This is just my take on it because the SNES Jurassic Park stuck in my mind ever since then and still pops into my head from time to time even to this day. I'm just saying I know I wouldn't enjoy it a fraction as much as I fondly remember enjoying it then.
And, yes, I fully acknowledge that these collections and re-releases often include genuinely good games (IE - the Genesis versions in this collection). But I never played those ones so I'm speaking to the ones I have.
@MysticX I wish there was more logic or reason to why certain pokemon were in particular places that felt more meaningful than "this is a desert region so there's lots of rock/ground types." I get that there's logic to finding water types in the water but something like what you're describing would make the world feel a little more alive.
I agree! I would tie it with the abandoned Mart in US/UM that introduces Mimikyu. I found that genuinely creepy but, yes, if we played through the games as they released, we encountered the Old Chateau first.
And also agreeing with everyone who says Mimikyu isn't scary. He wants to be liked so he wears a Pikachu costume because he sees how well-liked Pikachu is. In the show, he also gets kinda enraged when he sees Pikachu which......samsies.
@Fighting_Game_Loser for real. I get that it's gaming news and we're here on a gaming news website reading about but, really, it gets old reading about these mergers and acquisitions with a tone of "what will this mean for this industry?" Because the answer is ALWAYS the same: the rich will get richer and we, the consumers of gaming media, will suffer as part of that deal.
@Exerion76 this. I kept waiting for pokemon to pop up in world like it was Detective Pikachu: The TV Show.
I dunno; it looks kinda charming in a goofy way. But, really, if it's just a sitcom in which the characters play pokemon, then it's only going to be worth watching if the characters have...well...character.
@EarthboundBenjy this!! My first thought was "so by this logic Skyward Sword (and Bayonetta???) is better than Elden Ring? Mmmmmkay." Personally I hated gtaV but I at least get why that's on the list.
Ngl, the tiktoks I've been seeing of what people are doing with Ultrahand (including to the koroks) just a few days after launch... y'all, I wish I was that clever. It's like Ultrahand is to the TotK and the Switch what the massive redstone devices are to Minecraft and PC.
19,829 on my first try. I'm actually surprised I did that well! Got 7th place on my first photo but my last one had no landmarks that worked for me so it was a pretty blind guess.
This is fun! I'll probably play this more later (if Nintendo hasn't nuked it before I get home from work 😒).
If I could watch it in Japanese with subs, I'd probably actually go see it. As it stands now (and regardless of how good any of the English voices are), I'm not going to go see it to listen to recognizable mainstream actors and actresses.
Tarrey Town, like many others are saying. But I really enjoyed the labyrinth shrines. Not really the shrines themselves but the actual labyrinth. The scale of them feels so huge and the music makes them exciting to explore.
Honestly just not that interested at all. I'm glad it's being received moderately well and I hope it performs well for the sake of other video game movies that may come after... but I just can't get excited to see Hollywood's hot take on Mario (which is already far from my favorite Nintendo franchise).
Cool. Cool, cool, cool. Next, Charizard will be all over the place, too. 1000 'mon and counting and we can't let go of these played out, over hyped OG characters. I guess it was too much to hope for that we'd really see the screen filled with any of the underrepresented roster. :/
Can't say for Awakening because I skipped it in favor of Fates because only Fates allowed a same sex marriage. But Rhajat in Fates is basically Tharja so I'm still going to say Tharja. shrug
I have a soft spot for Kalos because XY introduced the fairy type and my absolute favorite pokemon: Sylveon. I do also think Kalos and the pokemon war would be good story fodder but I really like the Hoenn idea about the Regis.
Realistically, I think Unova is the most likely and would tie in with BW/B2W2 remakes. I truly hope Legends: Arceus was not a one off.
@CharlieGirl I think they mean literally "conjunctions, pronouns, etc." As in, we use conjunctions and pronouns without necessarily knowing that that is what they're called.
I knew they were pronouns but I couldn't define all four of those words for ya! 😅
I only own two amiibo and they're the Link and Zelda that unlock Epona and the... bow of something in BotW. I wanted to get the amiibo that launched with Metroid Dread and watched them all go to scalpers (along with the special edition game). So, ngl, they really just seem like something else that will get snapped up by that group of scum and that's enough for me to walk away.
I'm having a lot of fun with this game despite its issues. Do they detract from the experience? Yes, absolutely. Do they ruin it? No. Besides the technical performance issues, I feel like a lot of the "please fix this!!" is personal opinion. Which is fine; just an observation.
